people bring heartbreaking depth to this true story, Makes you seriously consider why we are not all as forgiving and humane as these people proved themselves to be, Loved how it was written from so many different perspectives, I read the whole thing insittings because I just couldnt put it down!! Its definitely a binge read! The way the the media portrays a story, or how people run with it and it goes viral, can result in assumptions and judgements.

skirt, One teenager with a lighter, One moment that changes both their lives forever,

Two teenagers growing up in Oakland, California, One, Sasha, was born male but identifies as agender, wears skirts and attends a private school, The other, Richard, is an African American from a poor part of Oakland who attends a rough public school,

They have no reason to meet, except for eight minutes every day, they catch the same bus home, And one day, messing about, Richard spies Sasha napping, He flicks the flame of his lighter to Sashas skirt, and Sasha wakes up in a ball of flame,

What happens next, as the victim, the perpetrator and the community struggle to come to terms with their sadness and shock, is a story of recovery, reconciliation, forgiveness and, above all, hope.

When I was little, I liked to tell stories.
Both of my parents are writers, and they used to read me stories, and tell me stories, and my mother even used to draw little picture books that were all about me.
I started by telling stories to my mother, who wrote them down for me until I was old enough to write them down myself.

Every week I went to the library and checked out as many books as I could carry, Soon I began filling up notebooks writing my own stories, I sent some of what I wrote to the contests at the back of Cricket Magazine, and several of them were published there.
From then on I was sure that I would be a writer when I grew up,

It wasnt always easy to make that happen, but somehow Ive managed to fulfill my childhood dream, I write books for all ages, from preschooler to adult, as well as long form magazine articles, You can learn about me at my website: www, dashkaslater. com
