Gene Luen Yang

I haven't regretted it! Having a similar background as the main character, I could totally relate to the story, I read it in one go, spent days discussing it Wer GN mag, liegt mit dieser hier genau richtig, Zuerst ist man ein wenig irritiert, aber die Auflösung ist um so überraschender, A tour de force by rising indy comics star Gene Yang, American Born Chinese tells the story of three apparently unrelated characters: Jin Wang, who moves to a new neighborhood with his family only to discover that hes the only Chinese American student at his new school the powerful Monkey King, subject of one of the oldest and greatest Chinese fables and Chin Kee, a personification of the ultimate negative Chinese stereotype, who is ruining his cousin Dannys life with his yearly visits.
Their lives and stories come together with an unexpected twist in this action packed modern fable, American Born Chinese is an amazing ride, all the way up to the astonishing climax,
American Born Chinese is aNational Book Award Finalist for Young Peoples Literature, the winner of theEisner Award for Best Graphic Album: New, an Eisner Award nominee for Best Coloring and aBank Street Best Childrens Book of the Year.
This title has Common Core Connections Migration und Multikulturalität ist uns allen ein Begriff, Tagtäglich stoßen verschiedene Welten und Kulturen aufeinander, Doch wie fühlen sich eigentlich die Einwanderer zwischen den Fronten In diesem Buch geht es um einen chinesischen Jungen, der seine Herkunft I really loved this book and I enjoyed every part of it although some of it did not make sense to me.
I still loved the book mostly because of the end where allstories come together and have something in common, The part I disliked the most was when the boys cousin was talking, Yes it was funny, but something made some of the words harder to understand than you would expect it, Anyway I would recommend this book to a lot of people because it was funny and you would enjoy reading this book, And I am sure you will give it astar rating too, I ended up buying this for my degree, as I was working on a module about global graphic narratives, The graphic novel is a delightful tale of someone who is treated and feels like a foreigner and an outsider, becoming comfortable with who they are and coming to terms with what it means to be both Chinese and American.
The graphic novel also integrates imagery and story from the epic novel Journey to the West, which ends up adding a really interesting aesthetic and thematic connection to classical Chinese literature.
Showing a deep understanding of and incredibly efficient mix of Western and Eastern culture, Good. Story. A very funny and entertaining read with excellent illustrations, It handles issues of identity, stereotyping, bullying and racism very well indeed, it uses racist humour and turns it on is head with great success, This is a great comic for those in their early teens, It mixes humor with a thoughtful message, It is a story of personal struggle told through two strands: an immigrant who wants to fit in at school and the monkey king who wants to become a god.
The themes deal with discrimination, alienation, relationships and ambition, I would highly recommend it as a gift to those starting high school, You will have to judge whether it is appropriate for younger readers in elementary, It is not particularly violent or vulgar, but the themes are complex, My only negative point about this book is the ending, I didn't think the author closed the story well enough, Super Buch!
