Nope. I love Thai food so much but it seems so complicated and hard to make from scratch, Maybe one day Ill work up my nerve to try it but it seems soooo time consuming it scares me, But I love this book, especially the info I gleaned on Thai customs, which I am not that familiar with at all so that was great, The recipes seem good too but time consuming, This is a beautiful little book that is colorful and has detailed recipes with pictures for all recipes, Overall, it is a great way to get started cooking all things Thai, But ya gotta love oyster and fish sauce, which I don't so there's a bit of finagling with the recipes if you don't quite like that staple.
I am excited about many of the sauce recipes including the sriracha sauce and the sweet chili as well as some fun desserts like grilled pineapple with caramel sauce.
So if you like spice and going a bit out of your way for the right ingredients and a fabulous meal, go for it, If you want to stick with Walmart shopping, this may not be for you I'm not sure they sell Kaffir lime leaves and galangal, great recipes simple and complicated too mixed, . . This book gives incredible insight into
the simplicity of Thai cooking in a very accessible way, Thai is my favorite type of cuisine and I have always wanted to master making delicious Thai stirfrys and soups and this book provides a very good foundation.
I also love the time spent on common thai pantry ingredients, how to use, when to add, how to store, etc, This is a most read for anyone who likes south east Asian cuisine and loves to cook! The recipes read as approachable, and the photography is nice.
I found the book to have a hoitytoity, unhelpful tone, however, For example: the author claims that making one's own coconut milk is ever soo much better than buying it in cans, But then there aren't clear instructions for how to do this and the reader is advised to buy cans, OK. Similar issue with the curry paste "recommendations," where recipes will say something like "have a look at the chapter on stocking your pantry for suggestions," but that chapter does not include anything on curry pastes.
I am aware there is apparently a website, but I'm here for the book, Coupled with noticeable typographic errors every few pages, my confidence in the tome is not high, I fall more and more in love with Thai food all the time, Thai food, aside from being generally delicious, is actually pretty healthy, and so easily adjusts to vegetarian, vegan, and gluten free diets, among others, while still being intensely flavorful.
This cookbook is a prime example of this, I picked it up from the library hoping to find and copy down a few good recipes, But there are so many recipes in here that I want to try that I'm going to just have to return this and buy the whole cookbook instead.

In addition to having a lot of recipes that sound delicious, and recipes that adjust easily to my dietary restrictions, this cookbook has a lot of recipes that don't seem too complicated.
I appreciated the recipes for sauces and toppings at the beginning of the cookbook, Also, the photography here is mouthwateringly beautiful, and the format and font make for fairly easy reading, I have a feeling I'll be making many many recipes from this book in the future, Mostly easy to find ingredients I just finished reading this book from cover to cover and have gathered up all the ingredients to have a week of Thai dishes.
I was very impressed with the recipe selection in this book, and it all sounds delicious and each to accomplish, Based on my knowledge of Thai cooking it looks like each recipe has all the ingredients to make a flavor rich dish,

The picture throughout the book will make you mouth water and inspire you to start cooking, The cooking time for the most part make these practical dishes for the weekday as well as the weekend,

I am going to start my cooking journey to Thailand tomorrow night, so watch the discussion section for comments about the recipes as we try them.
Looks wonderful but reading through realized it was a little too authentic versus what I was looking for, My kids are becoming more adventurous with new foods, but not quite ready for some of these recipes for it to get decent use at my house.

Regardless, I would recommend the book I liked the recommendations at the start about stocking your pantry and some sauce basics that the rest of the book would build on.
