Angels at the Table (Angels Everywhere, #7) Reviews

The angels Shirley, Goodness and Mercy (and their new apprentice Will) are at it again, excitedly meddling in the lives of the humans they’re assigned to on earth. Lucy and Aaron were supposed to meet anyway, but when their intervention messed up that meeting, they have to go back in and make things right. Lucy is a chef who owns her own restaurant. Aaron is a food critic who writes for a paper. The angels try to help a bit too much by adjusting the food as it goes out to the table and things do not go over well! This was cute and comedic with just the right notes of a sweet Christmas read. 5/5 stars.

I love Debbie Macomber... & love her Christmas series... especially when it involves those little mischevious angels, Shirley, Mercy & Goodness. And this time, they have a new angel trying to learn the ropes, Will.
Will learns right away how, as hard as they try, these 3 angels are getting themselves in trouble...
Will has in hand in letting two people, Lucie & Aren, meet... on New Years Eve... & they connect instantly. The bad thing? They're not supposed to meet until later down the road.
So are things ruined?
The Angels try everything to make sure its not....
This is a cute read. Sort of predictable, as most love stories are, but still fun to read. Love the twist of seeing angels working in the background... makes you wonder if that's what it looks like in our own lives.
So, will Lucie, the restaurant owner & chef & Aren, the columnist for the newspaper that does food reviews, get it all straightened out?
Only Heaven knows
(I'm so clever) ;) -
Clearly, I'm too jaded and irreverent for Macomber. Her romances have a bit too much sap and cheese for my taste.
-
I always love Debbie's book and she didn't disappoint at all this was an easy read and didn't want to put it down and so enjoyable. Full of romance but shows how they need a helping hand to get there.
Lucie and Aren meet when they bump into each other completely by accident as they just happened to be together at the same time on New Year's Eve. They got it off straight away but they loose contact as something comes up for her and shows how they need the Angels to guide them back together. Problem is she owns a restaurant and he's a food critic and after he gives a bad report of her restaurant not knowing she owns it can they be together forever or not and how much help do they need.
Brilliant read. -
Was it written for thirteen year olds?
-
This was different from the other angel books in the series. Instead of each angel working on a problem and 3 storylines they all worked on the one. I like better the multiple storyline.
-
I tried. I really, really tried to like this book. I've been dealing with a dad with dementia and a husband who is having health issues. I wanted something light to get me in the Christmas spirit. I have read a couple of Macomber books before so I knew what I was in for. Or at least I thought I did. This is the first I could not finish. I can go along for the ride with angels watching over and intervening on our behalf. Right about now, with Christmas next week and the stress I am under with my men folk, I NEED to believe there are angels watching out for us. HOWEVER, I was only able to get to Chapter 14 before I threw in the towel. Formulaic writing with predictable outcomes that the reader can anticipate way before the characters was more than irksome. The "will they" or " won't they" get together drama because of so much lack of communication all drummed up so that the story can go on longer had me swearing out loud. I felt like I was reading a "B minus" student's junior high school writing assignment that was trying to fill up the mandatory set amount of pages and the assignment was to write another variation of "Sleepless in Seattle" from the point of view of angels. Worst of all were the bumbling antics of the angels who kept intervening and screwing things up because they seem to be from the same mold as "The Three Stooges" and are one-track minded and easily distracted by shiny objects. They had all the self control of 7 year olds let loose at the county fair and made me anxious more than anything. If guardian angels are that inept, then we are all screwed and made me feel worse. The angels escapades were meant to be funny, I suppose, but I found it stupid and it completely blew the spirit theme of Christmas I so badly wanted from this book given my life circumstances at the moment.
I seem to be in the minority on my review just like Aren's first review of Lucie's restaurant was. -
4.5 stars
This was my first time reading a Debbie Macomber book that focused around the three angels Shirley, Goodness and Mercy, along with their new trainee Will, and I really enjoyed it! While the angels did do things that left me scratching my head at times, I found them to be endearing characters and knew they were meaning for the best when they involved themselves in Aren and Lucie’s story.
This was one of my favorite reads from Debbie Macomber and definitely one of her best in my opinion!! -
I really enjoyed this story!
Lucie and Aren meet at Times Square on New Years Eve, where they accidentally “bump” into each other. They have a lot in common, and agree to meet again soon, but things don’t always work out as planned…
There are 11 other Angel books, but they do not have to be read in order.
If you love Romance books, you will love this sweet story of 2 people trying to make a relationship work despite some "unexpected" turn of events! -
3.5 stars this was a light fun read a good book to read as the holiday season begins
-
Super cute and quick read! In this one there is an apprentice angel named Will. Will, Mercy, Shirley and Goodness are on Earth to help Lucie. She is a chef who owns her own restaurant with her mom. One new years eve in Times Square, she runs into Aren- a random guy who happens to also be single. Both have lost their friends and they kiss at midnight. They don't exchange numbers but agree to meet at the top of the Empire State building at a certain time. However, when that day comes, Lucie's mom also gets taken to the hospital so she has to go there instead of to meet Aren. He thinks she blew him off and that's that.
...But the plot thickens. Aren is a restaurant critic. He goes to review her restaurant a year later and has a terrible experience! However, that is because the angels have all thought they were helping and added seasonings to the dish and ruined it! The angels had arranged him coming to the restaurant in hopes of bringing them back together but it back fired at first. They do meet back up and she doesn't know he's the critic and he doesn't know how to tell her. She clears up the mess with the day at the Empire State building and they start a relationship, until she finds out he was the one who wrote the terrible review. Eventually they work it all out and it ends happily ever after.
Cute, cute, cute. Loved the NYC setting! -
The first thing that drew me to this particular book was the title. I’m a huge believer in Angels, I love everything about them and it is not often that I read a story with angels in. I’d LOVE to read more fiction that features Angels, and after reading this one, I’m now on the look out for more!! I must also say that the cover of this book is GORGEOUS. It is very warm and invites you in before you have even opened the first page!
Mercy, Goodness and Shirley are Angels. They are Prayer Ambassadors, working under the direction of Gabriel and helping the humans on Earth by answering their prayers and guiding the humans. But one rule they find hard to follow is that they must not interfere too much! When they take a new apprentice under their wing, the trio get so caught up in showing Will the excitement of Earth on New Year’s Eve that they all get a bit carried away!
Lucie is in Times Square waiting for the New Year to come in, and after she is separated from her friends, she finds herself alone as everyone around her hugs and kisses in celebration. Next to her is Aren, he too finds himself alone, and when Will accidentally nudges them in his anticipation to be amongst the crowd of humans, sparks fly and there is an instant attraction. However, the passion and romance is short-lived as a twist of fate tears them apart. Will Aren and Lucie find each other? And can the Angels lend a helping hand?
I cannot describe how much I enjoyed this book! I finished it in a few hours and I could not put it down! Immediately I was drawn in by the story of the Angels in Heaven looking down at the exciting events happening on Earth. It made me smile to read about the Angels enthusiasm for Earth and how much they enjoyed their time with humans and their visits to Earth!
I loved reading about the two separate worlds and how they interlinked, coming together as one. I loved that the Angels followed humans around and tried their very best to help, even if sometimes it did have disastrous consequences! I was laughing out loud at the mischief they got themselves into, and I enjoyed picturing the scenes in my head, wondering how things would appear to the humans who could not see them! Mercy and Will were my favourite Angels – I loved how Mercy had a fun side and although she meant well, it was her influence which always landed the others in hilarious situations. I think Will was brilliantly written as an apprentice, I enjoyed reading about his progress and his love and care for the humans touched my heart. I liked how he tried his very best to behave, and how all he wanted throughout the story was for things to go right. I absolutely adored the Angels, I could not stop laughing at their antics and I am already looking forward to reading the other stories that Debbie has written about them!
Lucie and Aren were very well-written as characters. I LOVED their initial meeting at the beginning of the book, I was actually squealing with excitement at how well their relationship hit off at the start! It has to be one of the most romantic scenes I’ve read this year, something about it pulled me in and I felt so much happiness for them! As sad as i was when fate intervened and tore them apart, it compelled me to read on to see how their individual journeys progressed and I willed them all throughout the book to find each other. Lucie was a character that I very much got behind and supported, I warmed to her straight away and wanted her to have huge success in all areas of her life and achieve everything that she wanted to. Lucie’s mum Wendy deserves a mention too – She was fantastic and always made me smile.
Angels At The Table is an enchanting book filled with magic. There is the perfect balance of love, kindness, and a lot of humorous moments thrown in to brighten your day. It is a warm story set amongst Christmas and New Year, and it is by far the most comforting story I have read in a while. There is a very special message in this book: We are never alone. And sometimes, if we ask for help, then Angels might visit Earth, cause a bit of mischief along the way, but ultimately, they will try to help you and answer your prayers. -

Angels at the Table is a short novel that is the seventh and final story in Debbie Macomber’s Angels Everywhere series that follows a group of three mischievous angels named Shirley, Goodness, and Mercy. As Prayer Ambassadors, they’re supposed to answer people’s prayers particularly at the holidays, but they can never seem to resist interfering in human affairs, which can get them into trouble with their boss, the archangel Gabriel. This time, they’re joined by a new apprentice angel named Will, who they’re training and who succumbs to their special brand of holiday hijinks.
It’s New Year’s Eve, and the angels take Will to Earth to see the humans celebrating in Times Square, where with a nudge of his wings, he causes two strangers, Aren and Lucie, to bump into one another. It’s the stroke of midnight, when everyone around them is kissing, so Aren impulsively kisses Lucie, who enjoys it. Afterward, they spend nearly the entire night at a diner talking. Their connection is strong, but with the responsibility of opening a new restaurant in the next few months, Lucie feels the timing isn’t right. Aren suggests that she take some time to think things over, and if Lucie chooses to pursue a relationship, he’ll be waiting for her at the top of the Empire State Building one week later. Over the following week, Lucie can’t get Aren off her mind, so she decides to meet him, but a last minute emergency involving her mom prevents her from going. They both think it wasn’t meant to be, but nearly one year later, Aren, who works as a food critic for a New York newspaper, is assigned to review Lucie’s new restaurant. He has no idea that she’s the owner, but the food is so terrible (thanks to the meddling angels) that he has no choice but to pan it. Thankfully Lucie’s loyal customers come to her rescue, commenting online about how wrong Aren was, which leads his boss to insist that he give it another go. On his second visit, Aren finally meets Lucie again, and this time, the food is fabulous, making him print a retraction, but Lucie is still holding a grudge against the anonymous reviewer. Just as she and Aren are starting to reconnect, she discovers his secret identity, which could ruin their newfound relationship.
Lucie made a lot of sacrifices to attend culinary school and she’s proud of her work as a chef. She and her mom have plans to invest her mom’s life savings into opening their own restaurant, Heavenly Delights, which is Lucie’s dream. They’ve secured the storefront for it, just as she meets Aren for the first time, and she knows that the next few months are going to entail a lot of hard work that won’t really leave time for romance. That’s why, although she feels very connected to Aren after their New Year’s Eve meeting, she’s reluctant to keep things going. However, after not being able to get Aren out of her mind for the next week, she decides to meet him as planned until her mother’s accident prevents her from going. Although she’s thought of Aren often over the past year and frequently peruses the newspaper for his byline, she’s never been able to find him and thinks it wasn’t meant to be. Then one day, about a year later, she reads the scathing review the newspaper’s food critic, Eaton Well, wrote about her restaurant. Lucie is livid about it and fears that she and her mom may lose the business because of it, until her loyal customers come to her rescue. A couple of weeks later, Aren shows up at Heavenly Delights, leaving Lucie stunned. With a little nudge from their family members, they reconnect and things are going very well between them. Although Eaton Well publishes a new glowing review, Lucie just can’t forget how awful the first one was. She has no idea that Aren and Eaton are one and the same and when she finds out, it may spell disaster for their relationship. Lucie is a talented chef, a hard worker, and very determined to make Heavenly Delights a success. She has a strong relationship with her mother and wants a family. Aren is everything she’s dreamed of in a man, but she’ll have to learn forgiveness in order to make things work between them.
Aren has only just moved to New York when he and Lucie meet for the first time on New Year’s Eve. He’s recently divorced and although he wants a wife and kids, he’s not really actively looking for a woman after getting his heart broken. However, the conversation with Lucie flows so easily, he just has to see her again, which is why he suggests that she take some time to think things over before nixing the possibility of them pursuing a relationship. When she doesn’t show up, he’s a little heartbroken, but decides it wasn’t meant to be. Aren writes his reviews under the pseudonym, Eaton Well, and his contract with the newspaper forbids him from revealing his identity to anyone other than immediate family. He’s assigned to review Heavenly Delights but thanks to the mischievous angels interference, he finds the food completely unpalatable and pans the restaurant. After the backlash from customers, his editor sends him back for another try, and this time, he discovers that Lucie is the co-owner and chef. Also, the food is delicious, so he prints a retraction to his original review. He and Lucie hit it off again and things are going well. He knows that he can’t keep his secret identity from her forever, but he also can’t reveal himself without breaking his contract. When Lucie finds out, she isn’t so understanding. Aren is a really nice guy who was stuck between a rock and a hard place. Although he wrote a scathing review the first time around, he didn’t really have much choice after all the crazy things the angels did to try to “spice up” Lucie’s already superb cooking. Then he simply couldn’t tell her who he was without legal ramifications. I think he did the best he could. He was also open-minded the second time around and was very apologetic that everything happened the way it did.
Angels at the Table was a classic Debbie Macomber holiday rom-com. Will was a nice addition to the original trio of angels. He’s every bit as impish as the other three but very concerned when things go awry. All the angels are perhaps a bit childish at times, but their hearts are always in the right place. However, their antics always seem to get them into trouble, not only with Gabriel, but they also cause trouble for their charges as well. Will’s misstep in Times Square leads to Aren and Lucie meeting sooner than they were supposed to, and all four of them very nearly ruin the couple’s second chance by quite literally over-seasoning the sauce. But all’s well that ends well. Lucie learns an important lesson in forgiveness and Aren learns to be a little kinder in his reviewing process. They fit well together as a couple and I enjoyed the little report from Gabriel about what the future holds for them that serves as something of an epilogue. Overall, Angels at the Table was a nice wrap-up to the Angels Everywhere series. -
This novel in Macomber’s Angels Everywhere series is comical, as always. They say that God works in mysterious ways. Macomber’s story here definitely embodies that. At the same time, she in no way pushes her readers towards religion. Macomber makes the setting easy to picture and the story easy to immerse yourself in. This well written & presented novel combines all the best of the Christmas season in a package that can easily be enjoyed year round.
I absolutely love these angels. Even though we’ve met them before, Shirley, Goodness, & Mercy continue to grow as individuals and as a team. Their antics never fail to make me giggle. The trio’s new sidekick is priceless. Good intentions turn into some rather comedic moments as he tries to find his footing on earth. I also thoroughly enjoyed getting to know the main couple in this novel. Getting to know their thoughts and dreams really made me feel close to them. They were also quite enjoyable individuals. Macomber really has a way of making you feel like you’re part of the characters’ lives.
I thoroughly enjoyed this story. It is one that will definitely be re-read time & time again. -
What a delightful read. When I read why Debbie added Will...the Prayer Ambassador, I was hooked. Psalm 23:6, " Surely goodness and mercy will follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever."
Of course anytime Shirley, Goodness, and Mercy get together, and add in the trainee Will, mayhem will happen. You will be giggling with each little oops that happens.
A very uplifting, feel good, and delightful read. You don't want this one to end. Can you picture a camel waking itself down the street? Beware this one is going to hit your funny bone! Of course disaster follows...um remember "to many cooks, spoil the pot"! Good lessons to be learned.
Grab a copy of this great Holiday read, don't miss these Angels...they might just brush by you!!
I receive a copy of this book through the Publisher Ballantine Books, and was not required to give a positive review. -
Shirley, Goodness, and Mercy are at it again, and this time they have an apprentice angel under their wings, Will to help lend a heavenly hand to the humans down below. On New Years Eve, they meddle in the affairs of Lucie and Aren, a couple who seemingly are meant to be. Unfortunately, the Angels' plans for the pair hit a bump in the road.
A year later, Lucie and Aren haven't forgotten about each other, and neither have the Angels. They devise a plan to reunite the pair, and give them their happily ever after.
I loved this story. Debbie Macomber's angels are both mischievous and innocuous. Will was a welcome addition to the trio. They give a whole new meaning to the term 'guardian angels'.
A sweet, charming, and highly imaginative Holiday read. I give Angels at the Table, by Debbie Macomber 4 stars!

Sweet clean romantic comedy Christmas story with angels! I really enjoyed it :-D There was an element of the movie "An Affair to Remember" and the movie "Sleepless in Seattle" which made me love it more :-D Thank you for sending me this, Jennifer!

Digital audiobook read by Kimberly Farr
2.5**
This is a romance set during the holidays, featuring a restaurant chef vs a food critic, with the help/interference of four angels. Angels Shirley, Goodness and Mercy have a new apprentice angel, Will. On New Year’s Eve they make a quick orientation trip to earth, and Will, in his excitement, causes Lucie Farrara and Aren Fairchild to meet. But they weren’t supposed to meet this early in their lives and Angel Gabriel is pretty upset with them for interfering. Fast forward a year later and the angels have to fix the situation.
This is a typical schmaltzy Christmas romance with more than a little humor thrown in. Some of the situations are downright ridiculous, and the angels, for all their good intentions, seem mostly inept. But it’s a fun read and everything turns out okay in the end. (Surely, you’re not surprised to read that.)
Kimberly Farr is a talented voice artist and she does a fine job reading the audiobook. She kept the action moving along and it was easy to follow. I was a little confused a few times about which angel was speaking, but it really didn’t matter all that much. -
Shirley, Goodness and Mercy are back for another eventful season! And they have a new member of the clan, an apprentice, Will. From Psalm 23:6, " Surely goodness and mercy will follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever." So there you have it! A new angel in training.
All of our angels mean the best in their actions, but sometimes they don't understand that God gave us humans free will. In addition we are stubborn. So on New Year's Eve when our 3 angels show Will a bit of Earth and he sees two humans that are standing alone and need someone, and "helps" them things are off course. Will has messed up what was already planned. How will our fiercesome foursome fix it? Will Gabriel clip their wings after all the shenanigans they pull?
Lucie and Aren kiss each other on New Year's Eve after "bumping" (with help from Will) into each other. They hit it off and spend 4 hours talking in a local diner. They plan to meet in 7 days to see if they really like each other. But Lucie is unable to make it, her mom had fallen and broke her arm.
They were really supposed to meet when Aren visits Lucie's restaurant and writes a review -- but unknowingly he ends up getting the worst dish yet and writing a review that wasn't too kind. However it isn't under his name but a pen name, Eaton Well. Lucie can't believe the review, Eaton Well is the meanest person she thinks and she would love to tell him, possibly ruining her restaurant like that!
You will find a cute, cozy love story in this gem. However, what struck me is when Will says aren't they supposed to help the ones that are in pain and are suffering. Their answer is they are Prayer Ambassadors and someone has to pray for her. And when he asks well can she? And the answer was that some of us are prayer warriors and others only basically call on God in times of need. How can we really expect God to answer a pray only when we need Him? If someone who only talked to you when they needed something, are we likely to keep wanting to help? Although our Father is not that cruel, sometimes it is out of His hands.
Beautiful CHRISTmas story! Grab yourself a cup of hot cocoa, light a fire and cozy up! You will enjoy the few hours spent reading this delight! -

Roman idéal pour la période des fêtes si on aime les miracles de Noël. Une écriture fluide, pleine de tendresse. Histoire sans prise de tête mais Pas inoubliable !
-
Again, I randomly chose a Christmas cover and I do believe Debbie Macomber has taken over the holiday. HA! This is the 7th book in a series, but it’s fine as a stand alone. She uses characters over in other series and I’ve heard of these three angels (Shirley, Goodness, and Mercy) in previous books.
We’ve heard this story before: Food critic (man) vs. Chef (woman). These goofy angels accidentally mess up one of the Chef’s dishes and the food critic gives her a bad review. We spend the remainder of the book watching the angels try to clean up the mess. As is typical of women in these types of stories, she gets mad without caring about an explanation and calls everything off. I don’t like stories with irrational women, but, again, I’m trying to look at this from the point of view of someone who likes this trope, so I’ll say “it’s cute, it’s tame, it’s PG, it’s Christmasy, it’s an afternoon read with a cozy cup of cocoa and a puppy”. -
This was a quick read, but an enjoyable end to the 'Angels' series.
I liked the 'heavenly hi-jinks' that Shirley, Goodness, Mercy and Will got into when trying to help Lucie and Aren. They have *such* good intentions, but then things end up going *so* far astray from what needs to happen. Their shenanigans are definitely giggle-worthy!
As for Lucie and Aren, I ended up really liking each of them, though there were points where I wished I could have knocked some sense into them. They did figure out that they needed to set aside their pride and be forgiving of each other, so that's good.
3.5 stars -
Angels- Shirley, Goodness, Mercy and Will interfere with Gabriel's plans for Aren and Lucie to meet. Admonished by Gabriel to not intervene again, they decide to correct their mistake and intervene anyway. They just can't help themselves. From this point on they over compensate for their mistake and continue to make things worse. They just want Aren and Lucie together! From stolen camels to floating actors and mysterious happenings with taxi's-the 4 continue to interfere in Gabriel's master plan. This was a fun Holiday read. Who knew angels could cause so much commotion when trying to do good?

"Esta é a Terra, e nós somos envolvidos pelas fraquezas de um mundo arruinado. Não existe botão de desfazer, nem tecla de apagar. A vida é assim."
Não sei como não virou filme na Netflix ainda! 😊 Cheio de milagres de natal, cheio de romance de natal e clima de natal 🤣 Bem clichê também tá 😏 -
This is a really cute and typical romance, except there are angels involved. The angels were great; they were constantly getting involved in humans lives when they shouldn’t, but their faults and mishaps were always overshadowed by their goodness.
-
Un livre parfait pour se détendre quand nous n'avons que deux neurones présents.
Livre très nunuche mais l'intervention des anges rend le livre plus intéressant.
Je ne le conseillerai pas car c'est le cliché même du livre de Noël
