Can Get You Killed
Passion In Peril, by Deborah McClatchey, is a refreshing story in that the lady protagonists are not thin slinky perfect models.
McClatchey gives her lady characters weight and curves, Regardless these ladies are not the usual story females, she gives them a naiveté that rings true with young people, These young ladies are also not your earlys set, I guess what Im trying to say is that I appreciated these ladies being varying ages and body types, Another thing I love about this story is that McClatchey writes the men as being in love with their ladies and their voluptuous curves, and their faults.
This is not necessarily a story of couples overcoming troubles, thought the characters have them, Two of the men love their ladies, Rather, its a plot that focuses on the lives of the ladies regardless the men who come and go in their lives, The focus is on how the ladies learn to protect themselves,
About the story, these lady protagonists are makeup artists or fledgling actors joyfully involved in their respective careers, So much so that they seem distracted when a serial killer makes his presence known, Like, it could never happen to one of them, When one of the ladies falls victim, it seems the rest, in their naiveté, have difficulty grasping the seriousness of their situation till the perpetrator takes another from their midst.
Even though they prepare for their own safety, still, they make some wrong choices and place themselves at the mercy of the killer, And McClatchey has created this perpetrator we love to hate, but also understand why he is the way he is,
These lady characters are having too much fun in their lives, a lot of enjoyment being free and successful, They are even distracted from the seriousness of the situation by their involvement with men or trying to find love, My overall take from this story is that no matter your age, your weight, your beauty or lack of it, if a serial killer targets you or your friends, it would be wise to be more serious about your own safety.
And then the ending was a surprise, quite apropos to the way the story flows, Deborah McClatchey spins an inventive and thrilling tale in her "Passion In Peril, " Voluptuous young women are the targets of a serial killer, What does a pretty girl do Chloe Banyon and her friends are terrorized, because every victim so far has been a regular at The Cellar watering hole.
Luckily, Chloe's boyfriend Harry is a detective with the San Francisco Police, . . Together they chase down a demented perpetrator, and find their love deepening with every new risk,
Can they stop the killing save their friends, and Chloe herself
To find out, you'll need to own this fivestar thriller, Passion in Peril.
Hot fun, highly recommended. I love a good mystery and Deborah McClatchey's Passion In Peril, is right on target, Not your usual characters, multifaceted successful, and yet naïve cluster of girlfriends all gather on Fridays, Luckily, Chloes love a San Francisco detective warns of a possible serial killer.
It kept me wondering what will happen next and reading later than my usual lights out, Passion In Peril
Deborah McClatchey
Gripping read,
A great story that takes you on a trip of terror and ventures into the mind of a serial killer,
Wellwritten and the author obviously knows how to keep the reader on edge, Amazing characters, developed and realistic, Women are having second thoughts, especially when visiting a common place easy pickings,
You could be next! A cunning serial killer is terrorizing their neighborhood, Chloe Banyon and her close friends are terrified they may be next! The latest victims were particularly voluptuous young women, who frequented their favorite hangout, The Cellar.
Chloe and her best friend, Monica, are skilled makeup artists, working at a prestigious department store, Cha Cha is a beautiful, exotic 'plus size' model, who fears her biological clock is ticking away, And madcap, redheaded Steffi, the actress searching for love and success,
Chloe's boyfriend Harry, a detective with the San Francisco Police Department, is doing all he can to find the murderer before he strikes again.
The deeper Chloe falls in love with Harry, the more she realizes just how precious life is, Join them in their close encounters with the demented 'man of mystery',
Will the killing stop in time 'Passion in Peril' is a fastpaced emotional thriller that managed to keep me on the edge of my seat.
From the first pages I connected with the characters enough to truly worry about, wondering along with them who will be the next victim of the demented serial killer, and when will he strike next.
Chloe is a delightful character that I connected right away with, and her romance with Harry the detective is such lively, lovely affair, Intense, wittily written, this novel was a great read! I found this book disappointing,
It was either very poorly edited or needed a few more rounds of beta reading and editing, The errors in the writing took me out of the story, Shifting past and present tenses, headhopping where the POV character suddenly
changed within the same scene without any delineation, too much 'tell' instead of show, infodumping instead of storytelling.
Just plain bad writing. It really dulled what could have been a thrilling story,
The only reason I'm giving thisinstead of one is the premise, I liked Chloe and Harry's relationship, I thought Wallace had the potential to be a chilling, Norman Bateslike serial killer with his mother issues, but the storytelling was just too flat.
This was weird.
I like the idea, Wallace was abused by his mother, who was a plus size, bible preaching, dick hungry woman who made his life miserable.
As a result, Wallace ends up hating all women, but most of all fat women who come off as confident in form fitting clothes, loud makeup and style.
Actresses, models, any sort of career that flaunted women, turned him angry,
The main friend group, women in their late twenties ready to fall in love and settle down, Each one in different stages, All successful, for their age and confident, HOWEVER they were written as annoying, giggling, and full of themselves tweens, A total slap in the face to women in this world,
Women know by now to always be on alert for predatory men, Especially plus size women who have had to deal with this superficial and cruel world from the get go, Instead of getting plus size characters who are aware of the world, themselves, and just having all around common sense, especially living in a large city like San Fran.
We get women who are stupid, Airheaded.
When there is a serial killer on the loose who is preying on plus size women, mind you in a two block radius from their apartments, they're just walking willy nilly by themselves, lying to their friends to save face which in turn makes them vulnerable to being kidnapped and inevitable death.
These women were idiots,
Also, the writing is juvenile, These women are adults and the author writes them so innocent and young, The tone in this story did not match the characters,
Would not recommend this book Deborah was born and raised in California, She loves to write stories about teens and horror, Romance with twists of suspense, Her romances run along the lines of a Lifetime Movie For Women, Grab a cup of tea or even a martini, sit back, and enjoy the ride, .
