Gather Adventures Of A Japanese Business Man Fabricated By José Domingo Readable In Version
bad It's like a parody of the typical seinen manga, or so they say, Although to me it looked more like the parody of a japanese videogame, It looks like the protagonist can't help but to go straight, no matter what happens, I did not enjoy it overall, there were some funny frames but overall it was a bit, . . maybe I simply didn't like the aesthetics, Word “adventure” is an understatement for cacophony of experiences this poor square headed Japanese businessman goes through, I loved every bit of it! Beautifully drawn and told without a single word or speech bubble, This completely wordless graphic novel follows the adventures of a Japanese businessman as he leaves work one day, is caught in a shootout, ingests some weird substance as he flees the scene, hulks out, passes out, and finds himself naked and alone in the forest.
He continues to have bizarre and inexplicable experiences as he wanders through strange lands and encounters strange people and other creatures, Its not clear why all of this is happening to him, but its fascinating enough that youll want to know what happens next, At one point the author inserts himself into the process, begging the demons that have taken the businessmans life, to return him so that he can continue the comic, Definitely weird, sometimes gruesome, but also funny and addictive, Totally nuts in the best possible way, reminded me of the human body episode in The Magic School Bus This is an amazing work of art, I think you read it in the traditional western way upper left to right, lower left to right, There a few "words" that are more like sounds a handful of times but otherwise this is just visuals that follow a gray haired cubeshaped man for a day, a lifetime, perhaps multiple lifetimes or at leastweeks, it isn't completely clear.
Almost anything you might imagine that couldn't happen to you on a walk home from work happens to this man,
Most of the pages contain four panels but some are a single image or an image spread out over two pages, I read it through rather quickly the first time to just try and craft a story as I read, That story was some wild ride into other dimensions and the depths of the earth and off planet, too, Once i did that I went back and lingered a bit longer, seeing the tiny details that José Domingo has put into each drawing,
While our gray haired man sort of ends his story I'll not spoil it for you with more details another longer haired man who does not look like a business man get eight panels of his own.
Is that a start of another book, Mr, Domingo This book is amazing! I love the artwork, sort of a cross between Mark Beyer and Kaz, The story is simple: a Japanese businessman has adventures on his way home from work, These involve shootouts and aliens and ghosts and yetis and serial killers and, . . Part of the fun is studying the detail in each panel, Are those brains with arms and legs! Lovely book!
A Japanese businessman heads home after a regular day at the office, He doesn't know it yet, but a long succession of strange and fantastical events is about to be thrown at him, This simple plot is the basis of the book, and everything that happens in each panel is the inspiration for the next one forming a free flowing rocking and rolling adventure with some of the most eyecatching artwork you will see this year.
A gorgeous book previously published in Spanish and French
Won Best Book Award at theFicomic Festival in Barcelona, Spain
Visually stunning and based around a truly original concept
José Domingo lives in La Coruña, Spain.
A Japanese businessman leaves work for the day and on his way home encounters a series of bizarre people and situations, and goes on a comical lifechanging journey beyond the boundaries of reality.
Jose Domingos comic is completely silent no words, told in a four panel grid on oversized paper, Its an interestingly presented book with the perspective in each panel slightly slanted and coupled with the cartoonish way Domingo draws the figures, makes it look like Im reading an earlys SNES game not a bad thing in itself.
But as well drawn as it is, it gets a bit tedious to “read” after a while, Theres no real story the Japanese businessman continues on his way no matter what crazy thing happens until the end, Some sequences are clever like when he dies halfway through, leading to Domingo appearing in the comic, pleading with Satan to bring his character back as he foolishly killed him off too early, which the Devil does apparently all cartoonists work in hell!.
Plus I dont think Ive ever read a book where the main character becomes chewing gum by the end,
I really wanted to like this as these kind of quirky, indie comics are right up my alley but I kept putting this one down as it just didnt hold my attention for long.
Imaginative and dreamlike in approach but without
any real narrative to involve the reader, Adventures of a Japanese Business Man somehow makes the surreal and zany boring to read, Una historia gráfica cargada de humor, referencias a la cultura pop, violencia y sucesos increíbles, Cuando parece que ya sucedió lo más descabellado, el hilo argumental se retuerce para convertir la aventura en todavía algo más inesperado y loco, Me gustó que hay una analogía con la vida misma por lo alucinante que puede ser la cotidianidad, si estás dispuesto a verla, En la edición que yo leí Astiberri se incluye una guía al final para descubrir todos los secretos de ilustración y eso se agradece, Dilbert meets the carnivalesque or "a funny thing happened on the way home" type of narrative, Jose Domingo created/illustrated this silent graphic novel that is funny, horrific, but always colorful and entertaining! cómic sin texto salvo prólogos y agradecimientos muy imaginativo e impredecible, tiene momentos muy divertidos y caóticos.
Don't look for deep continuity just go where it takes you and soon you will be swept away into a dreamscape.
ì found this in Little Tokyo kinokuniya and amused myself with it while i was walking aroud, its cute, no words so don't have to bout reading esp, in car it makes a great gift too!! The graphic novel is made up with nothing but pictures, Kind of like a choose you own adventure only you have to make up what is going on in the story with only the picture to guide you,
