LOOOOOVEEEEEED this book, is fresh, light and so romantic, I loved Garth since minute one at the plane, I think I'm gonna read it again

Hot! eh, . no. . this was a big disappointment, no chemistry and kind of boring charactersJanuary: sitelink,on Kindle This was a sweet but somewhat predictable read, The characters were nice and the plot was interesting, The steamy scenes were well. . steamy I enjoyed it a lot and would definitely read more from this author! Chloes ex not only cheated on her but he also disappeared all her savings and then told her that she was boring, breaking her heart, humiliating her and making her wonder whether or not her safe lifestyle, seeking security, was smart or was it actually boring Her friend Stella decides that the perfect way to prove that shes not boring is to sky dive.
By jumping out of a plane thousands of feet in the air, Chloe will accomplish something that not many people do.
That is definitely not boring!

Garth Rowland owns and runs the company that Chloes dive is booked through and it is with Garth that Chloe is doing her first tandem sky dive.
Hes soothed many a terrified customer before and Chloe is no exception, Shes having second thoughts and third and fourth when the plane reaches optimum altitude and shes ready to back out.
Or vomit. But Garth talks her down, also attempting to ignore the feelings of arousal that stir from Chloe being strapped to him.
Having been kidnapped and held hostage in Afghanistan for a long time and come home to find out that his wife hadnt waited for him, its been a long time indeed since Garth has had these thoughts.

Garth and Chloe find to their surprise that they have mutual acquaintances but theyve never met before due to their reclusive lifestyles.
When their friends spy the attraction simmering between them after the sky dive they make it their business to get them in the same place at the same time at a beach party.
The one night stand that Garth and Chloe embark on soon becomes a summer fling, But Chloe feels that Garth still has a lot of unresolved issues over his wife and besides, hes not what she wants or needs in a man.
She seeks security and stability more than anything and Garth is a thrill seeker, Theres no way they could be compatible for the long term

Summer Fling is one of the December Harlequin Escape titles and introduces us to Chloe who seems to be attempting to prove that shes not boring, just cautious.
Her mother has bipolar disorder and it seems that Chloes childhood was chaotic with Chloe left to pick up the pieces from her mothers devastating mood swings many a time.
This leads Chloe to choose or need stability and security, particularly financial security and she always dates the safe guy, the one who doesnt take risks.
However as she finds out, that doesnt prevent you from getting hurt when her boyfriend jumps into bed with someone else after blowing all her savings in an illadvised business adventure.

Garth seems to be just the sort of guy that Chloe doesnt go for he has covered war zones and now jumps out of planes for a living.
But the attraction between them is explosive and Chloe eventually rationalises with herself that this may be the best way to get over what has happened to her with her heartbreak and indulge in a little fling that will get her confidence back and also not take a little piece of her heart.
Thats the plan, but it doesnt go that smoothly at all,

I really liked Chloe as a character, I thought she was fantastically well drawn with believable reasons given for her cautious actions.
Her childhood sounded very uncertain, her mother swung between mania and depression and Chloe was forced to be the adult really and to parent her own mother.
Her mother bounced from one man to the next, convinced each one was the one only to have it all fall apart each time, leaving her utterly devastated.
Chloe seemed to make it her number one priority to have a steady, reliable income and also, if she decided to date a man, that he was also just as steady and reliable.
She was clearly scarred by her upbringing and all that she had gone through and it had coloured most of her adult life.

Garth was an interesting character, particularly his background which is revealed, a little bit at a time, to the reader.
Hes completely reinvented himself since he escaped from captivity in Afghanistan and now tries to live as tranquil a life as possible in New Zealand, albeit by jumping out of airplanes for a living.
He still burns with the need for revenge, and like Chloes upbringing, this colours his actions in the present.
At times he comes across as extremely intense and in real life, would probably have set my radar off which he also seems to do to Chloe sometimes.
His commitment to Chloe is extremely rapid, which dings an alarm bell in her mind because its how her mothers relationships always progressed.
At times it felt too rapid, too intense for their interactions so far and a little bit too instalove.
The passion was white hot but Garth was a bit too controlling there too and it seemed that Chloe felt a little uncomfortable at times.

The strength in this novel was in the depth of the characters, which I felt were very well constructed and written.
I believed both of them in their issues and struggles and I wanted them to be able to find what they needed with each other.
The actual development of their relationship felt a little too rapid for Chloes comfort and because of that, mine as well as I responded to her as a reader.

Summer Fling began as an entry in a Harlequin writing challenge.
The author says that it won first prize and has expanded from that, Although I didnt particularly care for this book, I can see promise in this author and will try other romances that she writes in the future.

For now, lets look at Summer Fling, a novel about a man and a plane.
The man is Garth Rowland, an American living in New Zealand, Garth owns and runs a skydiving business and he loves every minute of it, He used to be a journalist but was captured in Afghanistan and tortured, He escaped but lives with the emotional/mental repercussions of his almost two year long captivity, He only feels free when he has the open sky above him and relishes taking newbies on their first jump.
I thought Garth was amazing, We only get a few details about his time in Afghanistan thankfully but the author is able to express how truly awful it was.
And Garth is also dealing with some other scars as well, He was married when he was captured and thoughts of his wife gave him the will to keep going.
He escapes his imprisonment and when he returns home, he fully intends on devoting everything he has to making his marriage work.
Unfortunately, Garth finds out that she was involved with another man, named Nick, and that it had started before he went to Afghanistan! Garth is devastated and to make matters worse, she was killed in a car crash while Nick was driving.
At that point, Garth decided that he would have his revenge on the man who killed his wife by ruining Nicks business.

Even though we dont really get to know him very well, I really did like Garth.
Chloe, on the other hand, not so much, She starts out fine and has a great introduction: shes about to go on her very first sky dive!! She seems nervous of course but you can still see thats she sweet and funny.
She, too, has her own rough past, Chloes mom is bipolar and had never been diagnosed until recently, Because of that, Chloe and her mom were always moving and Chloe never really had an opportunity to make many friends.
On top of that, Chloe and her boyfriend recently broke up because, one, he stole her savings and two, she found out he was cheating on her.
He also claimed that Chloe was boring and not spontaneous, To prove to herself that she ISNT boring and that she CAN take risks, she decides to do the riskiest, scariest thing imaginable at least, to me it seems risky and scary: sky diving.
So there are a few things about Chloe that I like: shes brave for sure and she loves her friends.
Oh, and shes a chocolatier! What a cool job!

But I have several issues with this book.
My first issue is super minor and could just be my own quirk but Ill mention it anyways.
The book is set in New Zealand and it was obvious to me that the author was a New Zealander: She mentionsdegrees being the height of New Zealand summer.
I had to read the passage a few times before I figured out it wasnt a typo she was talking Celsius, not Fahrenheit.
The author also uses names of cities to convey a length of time, but I dont know where these places are so I dont know how much time has passed.
And yes, it matters because shes saying that by the time one of the characters goes from one place to another, theyve made up their mind about something.
So was it a quick and easy decision Or was it something that took hours to deliberate Again, its not a huge big deal it was more of a pet peeve.
The next issue I had was that Chloe gets everything she wants and I dont feel like shes earned any of it.
Garth pursuits HER romantically. Her friends drag her to a wonderful beach party, Nick pursuits her. She wants to buy a local candy store and

she cant get the loan until she has collateral.
Chloe asks her mom to put her own house up as collateral which she does, of course.
To make matters worse, only days before she asks for that, Chloe had essentially told her mom to eff off and had said what a horrible mom she was! Hello! And another thing, Garth tells Chloe the details of his past which included changing his name.
Then, she proceeds to tell those details to everyone she talks to after that! Do ya think he wanted you to blab his personal details to YOUR friends To Nick!! Thats exactly what she does!! Lastly, after Garth gets Nicks business a candy store or Chocolate shop, I think, Garth finds out that Chloe wanted to buy it and GARTH APOLOGIZES TO CHLOE!! For what!! He didnt even know that she wanted the damn business! And Garth is apologizing to her! AND, she has the fricking audacity, later on, to say that she accepts his apology.
Oh so fricking gracious of you! She is so incredibly selfish, Oh boo hoo, her ex took her money and broke her heart, So Welcome to reality, sweettits, Chalk it up to a big mistake and move on, But no, she just keeps torturing her friends and family with her shittiness,

After all of that, I still felt like I didnt really know the characters all that well.
I feel like their backstories were not fully fleshed out, Speaking of flesh, there isnt a lot of it, Theres not that much sexual tension either, Overall, I was wholly disappointed in this book and had a very difficult time finishing it,

Unfortunately, I have to say that I would not recommend this book,
