Examine A Reason To Believe Scripted By Diana Copland Presented In Ebook
a book comes at the right mood and the right moment, . . then it becomes the PERFECT book, This is what A Reason to Believe meant for me, The right book at the right time,
I tried to be nitpicky, picking up my pet peeves too, Let's see no "baby" as terms of endearment thank God!, No prolonged indecisiveness. No overflowing sex scenes that don't help the plot to move along, No solo shower jerkoff yay!, No sex in the middle of stake out or being chased by murderer, No toohard attempt to explain things, No quick resolution. Nope, there was none.
I tried to find something to complain about, I really did, But, I didn't find any, Nothing. I have nothing to say except I am in love with this book, I got this as ARC from Netgalley and I am already thinking about rereading it in October when I buy it on actual release day.
This book is part mystery there's a dead body, a six year old Abby was murdered in her own house part paranormal the ghost of Abby appeared in front of Detective Matt Bennett and led him to her body in the basement part romance Matt Bennett met a renowned medium Kiernan Fitzpatrick who ended up helping Matt to find out more about what had happened with Abby and there was attraction and part thriller when Matt investigates the case with Kiernan, outside of his role as detective since he has been put into administrative leave, the murderer starts targeting Kiernan as well.
It rounds up the story into just the right of everything for me chemistry, action, sexual tension, angst Matt lost his lover.
years ago and his newfound attraction to Kiernan made him start to let go, romance oh wonderful romance, great sense of humor and repartee mostly from Kiernan because he is just adorably charming.
. . with a mix of light horror Chapteralone, when Abby first appeared, gave me goosebumps,
One good thing about romance in mystery setting is also the ability to mask off instalove, Truthfully, the event here only happened in a week from the moment Matt met Kiernan and fall in love along the way.
However, I never feel like it's instant because there are enough of actions going on, as they zero in the murderer and discover the truth.
Their first kiss comes around halfmark and there's one chapter where it seems to be "dedicated" with the lovemaking which worried me a bit when I first read it, afraid that it would become too much but even so, the investigation never really stops.
It moves along in the right pace and Ms, Copland times everything flawlessly.
There are two significant female characters well, four, if you count Abbytheghost and her mother, Matt's sisterinlaw who happens to be his best friend as well and Kiernan's big sister, Aidan.
Guess what They're neither annoying or bitchy, So refreshing.
Verdict: a really satisfying combination of paranormalmysteryromance with two likeable protagonists that I'd love to stayupallnight reading about and coming back to from time to time I'm wishing it turns out to be a series :p

PS: For some of you who think "setting" matters, the story happens around Christmas time.
Might be a little early to read a story where it's snowy and cold in October this will be released in Octobernd.
Since I live in tropical country, I have no issue whatsoever,

I really enjoy this author's writing, and this book was no exception, However, the murder mystery completely overshadowed the romance in this one, which isn't my preference, leading to my,star rating.
Trigger warning: there is a vivid, detailed account of the murder of ayearold girl in this one, so if that is likely to make you run in the other direction, you may want to skip this one.
I can dissociate/compartmentalize like a pro, so I read it completely detached, Recognizing that not everyone can do that, please be warned,.stars
Matt is a gay cop whose expartner and lover was killed aboutmonths ago, While on a case to discover a missing six year old girl, he sees her ghost who actually shows him where her dead body is.
Doing the mistake of telling the truth to his homophobic boss, he finds himself in an administrative leave for still suffering after his partner's death.
When the ghost makes a second manifestation, Matt's sister in law, takes him to see a professional, Kiernan Fitzpatrick, a young man who communicates with ghosts.
They soon discover that they have more than this case in common, as Kiernan is gay too and handsome as well!.
But the question is, can Matt get over his past and take the risk of loving again And even if he does, can they both survive the dangerous killer who's after them, when he realizes they're on his trail
A really, really good m/m romantic suspense, between two very likable heroes, one with a darker, tortured past and one more relaxed and humorous, perfectly balancing each other.
Those two were great together, had chemistry, love and an excellent communication: none of the usual misunderstandings or silly secrets to keep each other apart.
The story managed to be both emotional and witty/humorous at times, never dragging or becoming melodramatic for angst's sake.
And, one reason I love m/m romantic suspenses more than f/m ones, no stupid TSTL heroine rushing to save the day and risking everyone's lives: Most important for me, was the way Matt finally overcame his exlover's death: it didn't take him ages and Kiernan almost getting killed to realize they were great together, but neither did he forget everything in day one and fell for Keirnan without any concerns, making it very believable and easy for the reader to connect.
The mystery part of the story was also well done, as it was almost impossible to guess the villain way before the end was near.
In short, I loved this one and I'm looking forward to read more books by Diana Copland.

I was totally incapable of reading any further than this, As a mother with a child around the same age as the murdered little girl in this story, reading about her death in detail was too much for me to handle.
I can't stand stories where young children get killed, especially if it isn't a brief mention but the whole premise of the story.
Reading about each step of her murder, from her crying and saying it hurt to her being tortured was pushing my every limit.
Totally not for me,

This book yanked me out of a massive book hangover!.
When I have finished an absolute great book or a series that floored me, the next book I pick up is normally a tough act to follow.
But, whew Not this book,
Losing someone you love is never easy, Losing a child through homicide is a very traumatic experience, both for the immediate family and in this case for the cop who finds the childs body.
Um, maybe I should add that he finds it with the help of the little girls ghost
Matts partner and boyfriend was killed over a year ago when he accidently arrives on the scene of a robbery and Matt has been on desk duty since then.
The death of Little Abby is his first real case for months and after conceding that Abbys ghost led him to her body, he is put on administrative leave because his boss thinks he is having some kind of nervous breakdown oh, and because he can't stand him, being gay and all.
Matt's sisterinlaw and best friend pairs

him up against his will with Kiernan, a renowned medium, and when Abbys father is blamed for the murder, both try to solve the case on their own.
For me Matt and Kiernan were absolutely adorable!
Although I might repeat myself for the tenth time: I really have a penchant for tortured heroes and if there is one, it would be Matt, but I also loved his humor and how he opens up to Kiernan.
The latter has a very easygoing manner and his Tshirt craze definitely reminded me of a certain someone, Those who have read the Cut amp Run Series will know who I mean, Both feel an immediate mutual attraction, even if Matt is still grieving and it is hard for him to move on.
Their sexy times were hot, Well, I should say, when they were not interrupted by a certain individual with the talent to show up at an unpropitious moment and.
. . circumstances.
The paranormal element was wellintegrated and the mystery, in which Matts and Kiernans life was put on the line more than once, was great.
I had my guesses about the perp and his motive, but of course I was so wrong!
Abbys fate made me incredibly sad, but I loved her almost constant presence and the way she was involved in solving the case.
At the end I was even close to tears and choked up with emotion,
To cut a long story short, what I just wanted to say was: I really loved this book! Overall book
Audio Book: Jack LeFleur

Tell me something.
. . whos idea was it to NOT give us Kiernans POV in this one as well Cause that would have been AWESOME!
When the dust settled all that really matters to me is that I really really like Kiernan.
And,
Detective Matthew Bennett also pushed the right buttons for me, I liked him as well, His closed off get the point thing / stoic cop worked for me, I felt so sorry for him, but he never really gave met the impression that he “curledupinacorner” he just goes through the motions and does his work.
Even though the office is not the most welcoming place for him at all,
Of course the murder of little Abby doesnt make you “feel” good, But its a story. A Fictional story, and we needed to get emotionally invested in finding the bastard who did this, So I read it in that context,
I did enjoy the paranormal aspect about the whole thing, I did enjoy the mystery,
BUT, I would have also liked MORE ROMANCE, I thought about it I maybe its because of the whole “childgettingmurdered” thing that we didnt get more of that Maybe it would have felt “wrong” if the guys just went at it all the time during such a heavy hearted feel of the murder investigation It was definitely more murder investigation that romance/butting relationship.
I was ticked off with the story ending, I wanted to at least maybe have a prologue A little peak into what happens next There are lots of loose ends to me.
A Gaping open ending in my opinion and because Im selfish like that I want MORE,
What I found a little eyebrowlifting:
So I did the audio on this one.
At first I was wondering if I could maybe adjust the reading speed, But when Jack LeFleur hit the voices, especially Kiernans, I decided the “inbetween” stuff could be overlooked, It was a little monotonous in the beginning but he does the voices really nice so I just concentrated on that instead of those parts where he reads the “story” Im not making any sense am I Basically, if he just puts a little more “life/feel/emotion” into the “noncharacter” parts of the reading it would be fabulous.
