: Wha Oh, yeah gotta review this, zzzzzzzzzz. You ever have a vivid dream in which the clarity is astounding and you fall asleep within your dream and are cognizant of doing so This is the same experience only there is no clarity and visual alertness as all is mired in trenchant dialogue of the highest order.
Poor Deneli, no one understands her, least of all her overbearing mother, She has everything a future queen could want but is never happy with anything or any circumstance, She has these “Gifts” that everyone seems to have but no one wants to recognize as to bring death to their doorstep in the form a distant King whom has no real authority over Deneli and her realm.
Except to threaten war. Deneli likes girls and this is somehow a big deal but who really cares, The end.
The pace is exceptionally slow and the dialogue even slower, Most of the novel is mired in political world building and social structure, The only thing of note that happens is that the Queen is assassinated and Denali gets blamed for it, But everyone wuvs her so and the case is dismissed, This was misrepresented by the publisher as being Fantasy when it should have been in the Gay/Lesbian genre,
Very interesting worldbuilding a great alternative to conventional political systems, I enjoyed the book! I thought this book had a lot of potential future colony of Earth and how they have survived as split factions on a planet with very different ways of running themselves.
Unfortunately I was a little bored, there was a lot of dialogue and politics, and I thought there could have been a lot more done with the science fiction aspect and technology.
It seemed near the end that there were too many plot lines to tie up before the ending of the book, and everything seemed to have a quick easy end to it.
Without giving spoilers away things would have been a lot messier than they were, I would also have liked to have a guide for what words meant and what prefixes where attached to what people, I found it hard to keep track of everyone in the book.
The romance aspect of the book almost seemed unnecessary, where it was introduced it seemed to have evolved very quickly and seemingly without reason, the spouses she needed could have just been advisors.
I liked the concept of the book and wish that had of been explored a little more, Scifi book belonging to the Diaspora genre, that is the branch of science fiction that tells the dispersion of humanity on various planets suitable for life after an unspecified catastrophe involving Earth.
Clearly the first volume of a saga, with a strong gay and lesbian ground, although devoid of any homoerotic element, leaves many
things to be clarified, but it is quite well written and enjoyable, and, above all, has the merit of creating curiosity about what will happen to the young Queen Danieli and her strange family.
Thank Ursa Minor Publishing and Netgalley for giving me a free copy in exchange for an honest review,
Ringrazio Ursa Minor Publishing e Netgalley per avermi fornito una copia gratuita in cambio di una recensione onesta, yearold Daneli is a tomboy who doesn't get along with her mother, She'd rather be riding her horse or perfecting her archery skills than wearing finery and ordering servants around, But as the eldest daughter of House Trageri, Daneli is the inheritor of longstanding tensions, and a mission far larger than she is, First, she must undergo an arduous training process, then pass a series of tests in order to become Queen, Afterward, with the help of ten handpicked spouses of both genders, along with her secret Gift, it will be her job to create peace between her cooperative, matriarchal nation and the violent, fiercely hierarchical patriarchy to their north.
As if that weren't challenge enough, Daneli is also in for a big surprise, A spaceship is speeding toward her colony and its arrival will change everything, This is by far the most infodumpy book that I've ever read in my life,
Nothing happened during half of the novel because the author was too caught up in her world building and thank god it was a good and very original one or else I would've given this a gloriousstar.
It was so slow I couldn't stand it anymore, I speed read the remaining half of the book, not giving two shits about the characters nor the story,
Nope. Nope. Nope. Nope.
