Saga gets criticism because it has a core story based on Bard, but then

also a later addition based on his son Gest, which most scholars find to be of inferior literary quality.
Gest's story is certainly no masterpiece like Njal's saga, but the work as a whole is still an interesting story.
From a scholarly standpoint, I actually find the addition itself a very interesting choicewhy stick this story onto Bard's Saga instead of starting something new Books can be attributed to Unknown when the author or editor as applicable is not known and cannot be discovered.
