book from the author in exchange for honest review
I have to say I was a little unsure of this book when I started but now my mind has been completely changed.
It is an amazing debut novel from the author, I loved characters, I thought they were likable and really kept me interested in the story, to be honest I cannot believe that I finished the book this quick!
There isn't really much else I could say about this novel other than I strongly recommend it to anyone.
I loved the ending and am very much looking forward to the next book which I know the author is writing at the moment,

What constitutes cheating A kiss with someone other than the person you have promised all of your kisses Emotionally wanting someone, without physical contact, other than the person you have promised to love and honor Or is cheating strictly limited to sexual encounters with someone other than the person you've promised to love, honor, and cherish all the days of your life Those are the questions Mary had for her husband Alex before they married.
Unexpectedly Out of Focus unexpectedly kept me focused the entire time I was reading, Although I had difficulty getting past the lies and betrayal throughout the novel, I was still glued to the pages thinking the author wouldn't go there, she couldn't go there but she did!
When I first began reading Unexpectedly Out of Focus and saw the direction the author was going, I thought to myself there was no way I was going to enjoy a book of such torrid controversy.
Then I started thinking back to other books I've read with the same controversy: Thoughtless, Avoiding Commitment, The Opportunist, The big difference in the betrayal in those books and Unexpectedly Out of Focus was the holy sanctity of marriage, Could I get past the ultimate betrayal to keep reading Yes, I could, and I did, The story is wellwritten and has the ability to twist my mind into turning a blind eye to the deception and pull for the wrongdoers, How did that happen! The story is just that wellwritten,
I enjoyed Mary's character and could feel her plight in struggling to keep hold on her convictions, She wasn't a troublemaker she was the girl next door, the best friend, the average wife, Mary is a wedding photographer who lives a dull life that is stuck in a bland routine, She is married to Alex who is always working or out of town on business, When he is home, he is working, When he's not working, Alex is on the golf course with clients, ignoring Mary's needs and wants, Alex loves Mary, but he just doesn't find the time to be attentive to her, But Mary has her close friends since high school, Jane and Sarah, as her rocks and support system to keep her feeling good about herself when her husband makes her feel less than desirable.
Until Bryce comes along. When Bryce is hired to work alongside Mary, there is an attraction to Bryce that has Mary teetering on the edge of her convictions and spinning her world into chaos.
Bryce, being a womanizer and natural flirt, doesn't make things easy on Mary as he pursues her relentlessly,
Bryce is a handsome Brit photographer who was living in New York but moves across the country to take care of his ailing grandfather, Queue the awwwwww's. He has a cocky demeanor, a sideways grin, and enough sexual innuendos to have women falling at his feet, Women of all ages readily pass him their phone numbers in hopes of having one night with this hunk of masculinity, But his sights are on one woman, and she just happens to married, I loved Bryce and his casual way of carrying himself, I didn't want to love him, because he had no problem at all with the fact that Mary was married, In fact, the only time Bryce seemingly had a problem with that fact was when he thought Mary was involved with their boss, Gary, I had problem with this, but somehow the author made me like this guy, . . so much so that I wanted Mary to leave her husband, Alex, and go for it with Bryce! What! Yes! Melissa Aragon had me questioning my own convictions and cheering for Bryce to take Mary away from her nonabusive, calm, providing, supportive husband who loved her.
I believe that's considered good character development,
Alex, Mary's husband, is a workaholic who wants to make junior partner in his law firm, He works hard to provide the sterile environment he calls home for Mary and himself, and he gives Mary everything she needs, . . except his attention. He was Mary's safe choice after she lost her first love to a horrific accident in high school, I was very suspicious of Alex, I didn't really connect with his character, but something just seemed strange about him, I kept thinking that maybe he was cheating on Mary Maybe he was really going to break and become abusive to her But, he did nothing to paint himself as anything other than the victim and good guy in this love triangle.
Even though Alex is painted as the good guy, he was emotionally detached to me, and I didn't really grow to like him, In fact, there's nothing to support my feelings about Alex except for my own gut instinct, but I feel as though Alex's true nature hasn't yet been revealed he's a JackintheBox just waiting to for me to crank the handle so he can pop out and surprise me in a shocking and scary way.
Perhaps in the second book, more will be revealed as to Alex and his stoic behavior,
Although lies and betrayal are in the forefront of the story, Unexpectedly Out of Focus is much more than a love triangle gone awry, This novel also touches on the very sensitive subject of breast cancer, surprise pregnancy, and strong friendships that have stood the test of time, While the story is well written with descriptive passages, good plot, and good character development, there were a couple of things that kept Unexpectedly Out of Focus at.
tofor me. The editing was an issue for me, There were a few times when punctuation was missing or a word in a sentence was left out, This was only a slight distraction in my reading, but enough I felt it needed mention, However, this isn't enough to deter me from wanting to read more of these characters and continue their story in the sequel to come, I believe that Melissa Aragon has done quite well with this debut novel, and I think there are more secrets to come in this novel that reads like a soapopera.
one you just can't get enough of, There isn't a happily ever after for these characters, yet as this novel does end on a tranquil cliffhanger that screams
tune in tomorrow for another episode of.
. . Maybe not tomorrow, but I WILL be tuning in for the sequel to Unexpectedly Out of Focus,
Thank you to the author for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review, When I began reading Unexpectedly Out of Focus and saw the direction the author was going, I thought there was no way I was going to let this book unread and I will enjoy it.
I was right! It is exactly what I like to read, Once I started reading, I could not put it down! The story is wellwritten and has the ability to twist my mind into something that I thought was impossible.
I liked Mary and I could feel her struggling to keep hold on her life, She was the best friend you would love to have, and the person you would adore, She is a wedding photographer who lives a dull life and she is stuck in a routine, She is married to Alex who is always working,
Alex loves Mary, but he just doesn't find the time to be attentive to her, He is a workaholic who wants to make junior partner in his law firm, He works hard, too hard, and he doesn't give Mary everything she needs, He was Mary's safe choice after she lost her first love to a horrific accident in high school, But Mary has her close friends since high school, Jane and Sarah to keep her feet on the ground, Until Bryce comes along. When Bryce is hired to work alongside Mary, there is an attraction to Bryce that transforms Marys life into chaos, Bryce, being a womanizer and natural flirt, doesn't make things easy on her,
Unexpectedly Out of Focus is much more than a love triangle that you read in most of the books, From my point of view, the story is well written with descriptive passages and good character development, Melissa Aragon has done well with this debut novel, and I think there are more secrets to come in the next novel, There isn't a happily ever after for these characters, this isn't your average book, This is something else, something real that could happen to anyone! I highly recommend this book to everybody!
Cliffhanger Like most of us on here, the written word stole my heart at a very young age.

I remember re reading Where The Wild Things Are as an adult and thinking wheres the rest of the story it seems I created a whole world around the few pages of that story! Now Ive finally decided to try to put that imagination to paper or electronic paper Im writing my first book and I couldnt be excited! When Im not writing or lost in a book, Im spending time with my family, my husband and great friends.
