Get It Now On Thin Ice (T-FLAC, #6; Wright Family, #5) Invented By Cherry Adair Available Through Digital Edition

book! Set in Alaska at the time of the Fur Rendezvous festival and the Iditarod sled dog race from Anchorage to Nome.
I enjoyed the animals included in this book, the dogs, moose, more on the dogs, . . great main characters and did I mention the dogs

A favorite for This Reader, On Thin Ice

In the aftermath of a disastrous marriage to a deceitful liar, Lily Munroe is wary of risking her heart again, but Derek Wright is determined to win her even if it means taking on the Iditarod.
However, there is more to face on the race across Alaska than merely the elements as a killer has Lily in his sights, and Derek will have to use all of his skills to both woo and save the only woman he has always loved.

It has been a while since I read the previous book in the TFLAC series, but the books are only loosely connected so it was easy to get back into the swing of things.

Books set in Alaska are a favorite of mine and Adair certainly knows how to use a setting to her advantage as the descriptions of the wilderness and the Itidarod add to the excitement of the mystery.

The suspense plot involves two separate threads, which is unfortunate, as neither is sufficiently developed, It would have been better if Adair had focused on the threat against Lily and left the espionage aspects out of the equation.

The romance has potential, especially as Derek is a fantastic hero, Sadly, Lily's distrust and stubborns while understandable detract from the overall relationship as she has a tendency toward running hot and cold that becomes rather irritating.

Despite these issues, On Thin Ice is a fast paced, action packed read and it reminded me to get back to the series.
Loved it! Couldnt put it down, Very interesting family, these Wrights

Lily Munroe thought she had married an honest, dependable man, but she was painfully mistaken, It didn't take long for her onceloving husband to become a secretive strangermixing with shady people and even shadier dealings, Although Lily nursed him through a sudden terminal illness, her marriage was over long before he passed away, During that difficult time, only her passion for the exhilarating Iditarod race across Alaska gave her something to look forward toand she channeled her emotions into training dogs for the grueling event.
Now single again, she's more determined than ever to win the race, awaken her sense of self, and leave her past behind, In the competition, the person to beat is twotime winner Derek Wright, a man Lily dubs Mr, Wrong. Extremely sexy and devilishly charming, Derek is the consummate playboy, Or is he Although Lily can't deny her intense attraction, she believes he is dangerous to her scarred heart, Little does she know that Derek is an elite antiterrorism agentor how desperately she'll need to depend on his skills to keep her alive once the race is under way.

The Iditarod trail runs from Anchorage to Nome in the arctic, Mushers test their skill, their dogs and themselves as the race their sleds through the cold, ice and snow conditions in a race that lasts more thandays.
This is the background for the suspense in this story of thwarting terrorists, while trying to woo the girl,

Definitely a romance with action, The premise is overthetop but it is a fun, escapist read, I liked this story overall, and the action was well written, but I found the heroine in particular extremely annoying, I actually like prickly protagonists, in fact I get a little gleeful over grumpy heroes especially, but the heroine just shot over the line into a bit of a mean bitch at the beginning.
She gets better, which is a relief, but I never felt at all connected to her, And even the hero, who I liked well enough, really handled his history with the heroine rather stupidly,

Also, considering where this book takes place mostly during a dog sled race in Alaska, I swear I felt cold just reading this.
while fascinating to read about, I cannot fathom why anyone would put themselves through something like that, I would die of hypothermia in one hour, Brrrr. I've been making my way through Cherry Adair's TFLAC series and while I wouldn't exactly call them high literature, I have to admit they have been fun to read.
Predictable and formulaic, but enjoyable, Until this one.

Sorry, On Thin Ice is a stinker, I can not stand stupidly stubborn, fearful, distrustful and irrational heriones, not to mention the tedious repition of the internal dialogue reflecting the stupidly stubborn, fearful, distrustful and irrational thoughts of said stupidly stubborn, fearful, distrustful and irrational heroine.
Right up until the second she decides to literally take a flying leap of faith and ok, everything's perfect now, Ugh.

And can I just say that I'm quite willing to suspend disbelief for most of my romance books, but c'mon running the Iditarod until you're so drunk with exhaustion you can't eat but somehow you give up the precious four hours of rest time you get everyhours for hot monkey sex And still claim you want to win Why do I think the real mushers out there are laughing their parkas off at the thought

At least she could shoot.
And bash him in the head with the butt of her rifle, That was fun. Book was good but missing too much information from a previous book and could not figure out which book, not TFlac or Wright brothers Im torn between excellent action and suspense writing and problems with the heroine,

I loved the plot and events which included bad guys, the Iditarod race and sled dogs, It was well done with good writing, Lily is a vet and trains sled dogs for the Iditarod races, Both she and Derek are participants in the current race, I enjoyed the story around the Iditarod, Other plots included Lily overhearing a conversation about illegal activities, As a result, bad guys are trying to kill her, Derek lives on a ranch near Lilys hometown, Derek is a secret agent for TFLAC, a privately funded black ops antiterrorist group, There is a terrorist threat which ends up involving both Derek and Lily,

I did not like Lilys attitude and decisions, Six years earlier, she had three dates with Derek, She was so drawn to him and liked him so much that she broke up with him because she was afraid he might hurt her by breaking up with her.
Then she marries someone she doesnt love just to get away from Derek, After her husband dies from cancer, Derek wants a relationship with her, but Lily is rude, critical and insulting to him, She does not want a relationship with him for the same stupid reason as before,

CAUTION SPOILER:
During the race, Derek saves Lilys life more than once from assassination attempts, They begin a passionate relationship, As soon as the race is over, she leaves him, telling him she needs space, He told her he loved her but she didnt believe him, and she continued to fear that he would break up with her.
I couldnt handle her stupidity,

In addition to Lilys emotional stupidity, a few times in the book, there was a little too much pondering in Lilys mind as to what to do.

Sexual language: moderate, Number of sex scenes: four, Setting: current day Montana and Alaska, Copyright:. Genre: romantic suspense.

To date, I've read one other book by Cherry Adair, Mystar review for her book "Kiss and Tell" Copyrightwas posted on,th in the TFLAC series, Last of the Wright brothers' stories, Derek is Kane's twin and the last single brother,

Derek and Lily have had chemistry from day one, She's been running from it and he's been waiting her outthrough her marriage to his socalled best friend, to her mourning his death.
Now he is ready for her to be ready, She still wants to run, though, She's finding out her husband wasn't what she thought he was and now she wonders who Derek really is, too,

I really liked most of this one, It is fastpaced and both characters are pretty likableoutside of Lily just being plain dumb about her relationship with Derek, I liked theparallel stories about home and work putting Derek amp Lily in danger unbeknown to them, The viewpoint of the bad guy was good, but it seemed to fizzle a little at the end, The resolution for both stories seemed a little odd to me, I'm not sure that I really got the whole story about Diablo, Also, I was confused by the end fight sceneit seemed overkill no pun intended and didn't add enough to the story, It could

have been resolved differently,

Overall, I liked this one and Derek is probably my favorite of the Wright brothers,TFLAC

DNF Quit afterpages

I enjoyed the earlier TFLAC books, but quit reading On Thin Ice a few weeks ago.
. . just SO unbelievable and downright stupid, In the first ten pages, a rookie female agent gorgeous, of course is deemed to be vital to the team's success in a super important mission against an very bad man.

As the mission is in a critical stage, the female rookie agent disobeys her team leader's orders, does some TSTL things, then freezes in fear, all of which endanger the mission and the lives of her team.
shakes head

I have no patience with just plain idiotic plot setups like this it makes me feel dumb just reading it.
Of course, the team leader is ultra hunky, sexy and the sexual chemistry crackles between the TSTL female agent and her team leader as a life and death mission is underway.
sigh That was my last Cherry Adair on the shelf and I won't be reading anything by her ever again, actually
This entry to the TFLAC series boasts the interesting backdrop of the Iditarod, It can brag that it has one of those yummy Wright Boys you can read about amp drool over all day long, It can preen that is has clever action set pieces and the comfort of home on the ranch, But nope we get to spend too much time with Lily as she tries to convince both Derek and herself that they can never work.
Oh. The. Drama. Of it all.
That annoyance aside, a few years and a lot of history have passed since Derek Wright amp Lily Munroe were first attracted to each other.
But time has done nothing to diminish the attraction or the affection, Apparently Lily has been both an unwilling and an unknowing partner in a nefarious scheme, What she doesn't know is if her partner Derek is in on it as well or if he like her neither knowingly or willingly participated.
So when she is endangered during the race, it's a little difficult to determine if Derek's international enemies or Lily's closer to home enemies are behind the deed.

The chemistry between the leads is good and the story as it's plotted is great, For this reader's thinking the storyline could have been woven together much tighter to make this a better read, More bones of contention for me were the illogical way Lily recovered from her attacks, which I'm certain were thought to show Lily's strength.
For me it failed. The second bone worth mentioning is how one of the supposed main threads seemed to just disappear,
While not horrible it is definitely my least favorite of the series to date,
Derek has waited for years for another chance with Lily, Lily has abandonment issues and doesn't trust what she feels for Derek, Lily is a vet and Derek a TFLAC agent and rancher, When they head to the Iditarod race, Lily is targeted and Derek has to stop terrorist attack while keeping Lily alive and trying to convince her to give them a chance.
I didn't like how Lily ran from the intense passion she had from Derek, but the story was engaging,
The very end was a little cheesy, but otherwise it was a great read, There are many characterizes I despise in a heroine, Rarely are they all present in the same woman, Lily Munroe has got to be a first, Prickly, bitchy, oblivious, martyr, TSTL and the list goes on and on, She has no concept of the phrase "to thy own self, be true" and running from her own feelings should put her in shape for a cross country marathon.
Maybe that is how she got into shape to enter the Alaskan Iditarod race, I never figured that TFLAC operative Derek Wright would be such a masochist, but go figure, "The heart wants what the heart wants".
Poor guy. At least Lily has a lot more grit than I would have given her credit for, because she really needed it,

Lily Munroe had one date with Derek Wright and ran screaming from the feelings he aroused in her right into the arms of his best friend, a real SOB.
Liar, cheater, embezzler, the guy was a real loser which Lily didn't discover until after she married him, Then the slime ball turns up with a terminal illness, Lily wasn't going to leave, but her marriage was over long before he passed away, Her only passion was training her dogs and participating in the Iditarod race across Alaska, Six months after Sean's death, Lily finds herself at a crossroad in her life, She hopes that the grueling race will help her sort out her life and what direction she should take, She also hopes to put some distance between her and Derek Wright,

Derek Wright, a man Lily dubs Mr, Wrong, has let everyone believe that his extended trips away from the ranch are nothing more than the roaming's of a sexy, charming playboy.
His missions for TFLAC are far from the jaunts of a playboy, but Lily is desperately trying to guard her heart where he is concerned and when Derek joins the Iditarod race to pursue Lily finds it impossible to resist him.
Well, the fact that someone is trying to kill her was a factor also, .
