the illustrations in this book, The story line itself was decent, I can't remember this one clearly, but it is more of a poetic book than a story, From what I recall, it has great imagery of the spooky things on Halloween, Slightly spooky, but lots of fun, this book has a lyrical, cumulative narrative that introduces a bunch of creepy Halloween characters who are bent on disturbing a little girl's tune on Halloween.
We've read this one a couple of times,.stars! This quick and tickleyourfunnybone read starts with a tapping toe that attracts a cast of spooky characters delightfully and colorfully illustrated as they each stumble upon each other one night under a Halloween moon.
This could be a fun readoutloud bedroom tale that wont scare even the timid of young ones.
If anything, its bound to bring a smile and giggles,
popsugarchallenge a book about or set on Halloween This is just creepy enough to be interesting, but isn't really that substantial besides the singsong prose.
A progressive story that builds on itself as the creature list unfolds, Mysterious and tempting toesies are swinging over a dark ledge, A cat finds them irresistible but his bewitching witchy companion wants those dangling digits for herself, A ghoul and ghost are next in line but one by one another freaky phantasm takes position near those tasty toeses.
Finally a little girl perched atop a haunted roof defends her toes and plays a fiddle for everyone to jig to!
Halloween haunts dont get much better for little readers! The illustrations are a perfect balance between scary and silly with dusky old fashioned colors and style.
Somehow each character looks as if he or she both escaped from a circus and crawled out of a grave.
The plot is engaging and reads like the old woman who swallowed the fly with rhymes and meter and added characters as the list grows and grows.
This is a great book for a lot of Halloween fun! It reads like "The House That Jack Built" but funnier and not so tedious.
An enchanting little book that would be lots of fun to read aloud to kiddos, This has been one of my favorite books since I was a child, I got to read it to my niece today and she loved looking at the pictures, I still love this story, This is an addon rhyming story perfect for Halloween but the illustrations are somewhat lacking, fun, cumulative text with nice illustrations about all these creatures who want to grab the tapping toe of this young girl sitting on the dock Another library checkout for Halloween but this one wasn't as thrilling or cute to me.
I liked the graphics but I thought the rhyming was a little too repetitive I know kids are probably enjoy it.
But I just did not, From a cat all the way up to a ghost all trying to get this little girl's toe by the light of the Halloween Moon.
This story is a great read aloud for Halloween! It is mildly scary but, oh, so silly and the girl who is the main character is very brave indeed.
After all, she is making music in the dark!
The fun refrain for a large group is: "By the light, by the light, of the Halloween moon.
" I like to draw moon out like moooon, The right spooky atmosphere for the Halloween season, this one is a cumulative rhyme in the style of "the House that Jack Built.
"
I did not like the image of the witch grabbing her cat by one leg, however, A great cumulative Halloween tale with poetic language which flows and spunky and slightly surprising ending, I liked it, and I'm not even a fan of Halloween, So I rounded up. In my best judgement, it's got exactly the right amounts of tension and creepiness, and the ending is perfect.
I would have loved to read this to my kids, when they were anywhere from ageto, If I were expecting grandchildren, I'd save it, I will investigate for more by the author, A cumulative tale of ghoulish delight involving a tapping toe, a sprite, a ghost, a ghoul, a bat, a witch, and a cat out in the night of the Halloween Moon.
By the light of the Halloween moon lots of creeps and creatures appear to try to snatch the dangling toes of a little girl sitting on a dock.
This was a library Halloween display shelf pickup situation, and it was all right, It's a fun idea, and has a singsongy Iknowanoldladywhoswallowedafly sort of pattern, but some of the illustrations seemed to miss the mark somehow and the didn't rhythm never felt quite natural to me.
Maybe if it were a song I could have figured out the meter a little better, but it seemed a little hard to read aloud.
Still, it's a fun seasonal and spooky selection for the early reader set, A series of creatures, from a black cat to a witch, a ghoul to a ghost, each attempt to tickle or prick the tapping toe hanging down from a dock in this entertaining Halloween picturebook.
As one after the other is foiled by the next creature, they eventually attract the attention of the toeowner a fiddleplaying girl who informs them that the toe is HER's, thank you very much.

Originally published in, and then reprinted in thisedition, By the Light of the Halloween Moon uses a cumulative narrative "A ghost! / A williwaw ghost / who trips the ghoul / Who swats at the bat / Who bumps the witch as she snatches the cat / When he springs through the air to catch the toe / that taps a tune in the dead of night" that put me in mind of classic nursery rhymes like "This Is the House That Jack Built.
" The text here reads well, and the artwork is appropriately spooky, while also being humorous, Recommended to anyone looking for entertaining nurseryrhyme style picturebooks for Halloween, A buildon book that puts me in mind of "There was an old lady, " The whole idea with the toe, though, started to make me feet squirmy, Still, a fun twist at the end, Might work for some Book Time audiences, but not too sure on that, Perhaps a book talk for it, I would give one and a half to this book,
Kevin Hawks really does a good job with his illustrations of illuminating the nuances of the story provided by Caroline Stutson.
The result is an atmosphere that is very slightly spooky but not enough to seriously scare the picture book reader, and the assertive surprise at the end by the girl with the toe will assuage any remaining fears.
This is a good book, I wasn't sure if I should give this bookorstars, It is fun to read aloud but the singsong scheme follows the same as manyther books that I like better.
The illustrations of various spooky creatures reaching up to grab some bare toes creeps me out, but in a good way for Halloween.
It definitely made me think about kids at night thinking something's under the
bed waiting to get their toes.
This text lends itself to some interesting possibilities of illustrating the entire sequence of events on a page such as in the book "The Napping House", but the illustrator chose instead to only show the newest character introduced and the one previous to it.
I think this is a missed opportunity for some real humor and imaginative interactions between the characters, i was in the mood for a Halloween read through KU, . . i found this one great illustrations. so fun to see and enjoy, well done. i wanna find more from Caroline soon, check this one out. One of those song/poem books that builds upon itself, I really liked the illustration style! It was very detailed Join the fun as a brave young girl, who would rather play a trick than be gobbled up as a treat, is the star of this spirited romp under an old wooden bridge by the light of the spooky Halloween moon.
