I'm surprised that I enjoyed this so much, I read this entire book in one sitting, Which isn't normal for me for most books, and especially not for romances,
I'm sure this book is dated, and there's one scene that I know most people would probably have an issue with nowadays, But for the most part this book was cute, Zane Fortune is that last of Texas mogul Ryan Fortune's children to find a partner in love,
Um, has anyone noticed in the past eleven books that there aren't any gay characters!
IF my late reading of modern Western romance's tell me that/of the Western population is gay, oh perhaps I need to take a break from M/M gay fiction Maybe.
That said there isn't anyone gay in my family, yup, I have the boringest family in America they're over achievers too!,
Back to the story at hand, Zane has to go to his friends' wedding Attorney Parker and soontobesisterinlaw Hannah Chester that is a weekend affair that the Fortune's Texas compound.
So he gets his secretary to pretend to be his girlfriend for the weekend to get his family off his back and nip their matchmaking ideas in the bud.
She has to go to hospital to be with her mother because of a heart attack, so he is on his own, Zane gets that idea to ask his 'helper' housekeeper to go for the weekend wedding and get his family off his back, I'm not surprised that an active mother of three that works taking care of rich people's pets and houses, would be in great sexy shape, she must put it ten hour days plus taking care of her children and her own life! So yes, this is one sexy hot mama.
I think I need to take a break from the Fortunes of Texas series because I am too emotionally involved with this crazy family!
So you know that this is going to blow up in Zane's face.
I'm not liking how Gwen Hutton thinks that she is so ordinary compared to Zane Fortune, which is obviously wrong because she has her own business while raising three great children which is an almost impossible thing to do with two parents, but even tougher with a widow! I was surprised with the movie incident because she had been untouched for so long, but that is probably why that makes the event possible because she was so unused to a man's touch so she never spoke up to stop what happened don't worry, I don't give out spoilers.
I did think that Gwen was a crazy bitch with Zane a lot of the time, she was so mean and rejected him with no reason since she was interested/attracted to him the whole time.
I wanted to shake her with a firm punch to the shoulder in the last third for the story,
We see quite a bit of Maria Cassidy and her kidnapped baby Bryan on the run from her family, I don't get that she doesn't seem to miss her own son, because she never goes to see him when she visits the Fortune's Ranch, I hope this storyline is going to end soon because it has lingered through eleven books already!! Oops! I may have given away a spoiler!
pages
for regular good quality's style Western romance novels
I'm trying to convince myself not to order the Fortunes of Texas's Reunion anotherbooks!! SUMMARY: Zane Fortune wasn't looking for love.
But he does need a plan to get his sisters to stop their matchmaking before he loses his mind, Luckily, he meets Gwen Hutton in his own backyard, soaking wet and chasing his dog, Funny, he'd never taken the time to get to know the woman behind HelpMate, his domestic chore service, Now he's glad he did: Gwen is gorgeous, downtoearth and the perfect pretend girlfriend,
A hardworking single mother of three, Gwen tries to accept sexy Zane's scheme for the business arrangement it is, Despite the warning bells, she's falling for this carefree, funloving man and is touched by his obvious affection for her children, But she's got too much at stake to become one of his meaningless conquests, Unless, of course, this time, the very unserious Zane is quite serious, . . about her.
REVIEW: Too much whirlwind romance, too many details in some romantic scenes, The storyline wasn't what I expected it to be and lacked much depth, Themain characters were both fairly shallow although they did show some growth towards the end, Hired Bride is a book by American author, Jackie Merritt, in the Fortunes of Texas series, Gwen Hutton, widowed mother of three, is just managing to keep her head above water with her little services company, HelpMate, When Zane Fortune comes home unexpectedly as she is washing his dog, he hits upon the idea of paying her to attend a family wedding: Gwens very attractive, and it will keep the Fortune women off his back about settling down if they think hes in a relationship.
Gwen reluctantly agrees: she needs the extra cash, but she stipulates “no funny business”, Zane is rich and gorgeous, way out of her league shes not interested in an affair, anyway, and he is a confirmed bachelor, But then he kisses her,
Sexy romance is what Merritt does well, and this book, despite being a little longer than her usual romances, it an excellent example of the genre.
as part of the Fortunes of Texas series, the background story continues: in this instalment, a kidnapped baby is finally returned to his parents, someone ends up in a mental ward and a hitherto unknown Fortune turns up.
An enjoyable romance.
