Find Hell For The Company: Brimstone 1 Compiled By Angel Martinez Rendered As File
This was too cute and funny! Being in Shax's head is hilarious.
He's one crazy demon. And Ness is adorable. I can't wait to see him come out of his shell, I'm looking forward to more of this crew's adventures, This was a short, cute, funny read, Though I wished for more romance from the MCs relationship overall I quite enjoyed the story, It is a lighthearted read that is fun and sweet, I really hope to read the second book in the series soon,
I did listen to the book as an audio, I thought the narrator was "okay", I didn't love him but he wasn't bad just not good,
Reread: I still feel the same about the read, It is a fun read, Antigravity cows were quite intriguing to read about, As for the story it was quite a quick read/listen, It didn't really grab and hold onto my attention as I would have liked it to have, I felt very detached from all the characters, Shax back story and why he left earth was in it's own way absorbing as was Ness's, I appreciated the author trying to inject some humor into the story and that there's no definite line between good and evil.
The narration was great, It was well paced and cleanly and clearly projected, I liked the personality Vance Bastian, the narrator, injected into each character and the distinction he made between each character.
He really helped to bring the characters to life, Loved the "cow balloons"!!! Actually, really enjoyed the whole
thing, Thanks. : The Brimstone series never fails to be charming, hilarious, wacky beyond belief, and still boast one of the most fun ensemble casts I've ever read.
In the prequel, we were introduced to our antiheroes Shax and Verin, demons on the run from Earth after ahem a disagreement with management.
The mysterious Julian made his debut among the gunfire, but when we return to Hell for the Company, it's just our demons and their drag queen AI, Miss Ivana.
Still trying to make a somewhat honest living by taking on various jobs delivering cargo, Verin agrees to haul some antigrav cows think, cow balloons! while Shax ends up in trouble for stealing synthetic sapphires.
He can't help it. He is the Prince of Thieves, after all, When the demons realize they're short on feed for their weightless companions, they make a quick stop at a totally psychedelic planet to harvest some flora.
That's when they come upon an angel in an escape pod, Ness left Heaven after refusing orders to kill, Demon or no, he is unwilling to take a life, It goes against every fiber of his being, Ness isn't a angel warrior like Michael or Raphael, He's a healer with a sincere and tender heart, And to say that Shax is smitten after rescuing Ness, is most definitely an understatement, Ness represents the ultimate challengebedding a gorgeous and virgin angel, Not to mention the pretty gold feathers on his wings, . .
Shax and Ness are such wonderful compliments for each other, Neither is wholly good or bad, and their elements of moral grayness touch together to fill the missing pieces of a puzzle.
They help each other grow and ease deeprooted sadness, Plus, Ness doesn't take any of Verin's bad attitude, which is always amusing, After some radical dealings over Shax's sapphires and an angelposse runin, the crew is three men strong and ready for the next space adventure aboard the Brimstone!
Angel Martinez doesn't disappoint.
Period. Treat yourself to this amazing series, It's bound to lighten any mood after a rough day, Read as part of sitelinkBrimstone: Demon Owned amp Operated, three novella collection, You can read the prequel book, sitelinkPotato Surprise: A Brimstone Prequel, for free at most retailers
I really like sitelinkAngel Martinez, and I like her lighthearted scifi stuff.
I wish this one had a little more buildup, a little more tension between the two MCs, I thought that their adventures were fun, but the romance was too instalovey for me,
So much potential here, though! Moving on to the next book, Love the title, love the author, The premise piqued my interest too!
A fun little romp that I enjoyed in audiobook, and listened to all in one sitting.
Okay, I put off doing some things I needed to, but hey, Books! Great characters. Demon luuuuuuurve. Amiright
Shax might be in serious denial about the goodness in his heart, and him fighting to be the big, bad demon despite being a relatively decent guy to those who deserve it leads to some hilarious moments.
Demon meets angel is becoming one of my new favorite tropes, thanks to this little gem,
I won't spoil the story, I'll just give my recommendation and get myself back to Audible to buy the sequel.
I mean, who doesn't love floating cows Wow! This was a lot of fun, Angel Martinez's imagination astounds me, Every series of hers has something new and different that I've never come across before, In this particular story, that would be antigravity cows beware of falling cow pies! :D Also, this is a scifi story but the MCs are an angel and a demon.
I've never come across that before either! Great world building and start to a new series, I think where it was weakest was the romance, It was a pretty short story and the romance felt a bit "instalovey," but I can forgive that since it's a continuing series so there will be more time for the romance to build between Shax and Ness.
Recommended!
I listened to the audio version and the narrator was okay, He had a pleasant voice and did a nice job with the different character voices but sometimes it just felt like he was reading the story rather than acting it out.
It didn't ruin the story for me, but it didn't elevate it like a great narrator could have, Promising series, but I have only so much patience for serials

Rating:/
PROS:
The story is strange and unusual and Ive never read anything quite like it.
Theres a quirky sense of humor constantly lurking near the storys surface, I never belly laughed at this volumealthough I did a couple of times while reading the sequel, but I chuckled a lot.
Ness is adorableclueless and confused but also guiltily open to corruptionand the systematic way in which Shax sets out to corrupt him is amusing.
CONS:
The story could have used some scenes from Nesss point of view, Theres bound to be a lot going on in the mind of a fallen angel, but we never get to see any of it.
Shax decides near the end of the story that “this seduction would take as long as it was necessary for Ness to come to him.
That would be the ultimate, the sweetest triumph, to have this virginal angel make the first move, even if it took years of petting and cosseting.
” I love this sort of slow buildup when Im reading a novel, but considering this is the first part of a serial, I fear that the sexual developments will frustrate me if theyre stretched over multiple volumes, meted out one tiny piece at a time.
Overall comments: I wouldnt call this a standout as far as the romance goes, but Im not sure the relationship was really the authors focus to begin with.
This is a comedy, and it succeeds pretty well at that, The situations are comical, the physical descriptions are comical, and the characters reactions to them are comical, How can you not laugh at a story containing such phrases as “bovine dirigibles” Fun Arg, need to read the sequel now! Wicked since of humor, reminds me of Reddwarf at times.
The ship's name is Brimetstone and its operating computer is Ms, Ivana, a drag queen. Demons, Shax and Verin are outcasts from Earth, doing shady and legit transport deals, including a delivery of antigravity cows.
And along the way Shax finds a crash life pod, with a hot sexy angel, Shax turns on the seduction tactics to win Ness over, But things are just starting in their relationship when this book ends, . . I need to read the sequel! We read Potato Surprise, and then I ventured ahead to see if the rest of the series would be worth reading.
If even for just the laughs, It's really not. I might still do it someday, if I'm in the right mood,
This could honestly benefit from going slower, Everything is completely rushed. You can't expect me to believe that Shax and Ness fall in love just like that, Cheesy, but not in a good way, .
