visited Matlock recently, it's a lovely place, I'm glad I didn't read this book before I went it shows a side of the lovely town that others don't see!
Thomas Cranham gives his imagination full rein in this collection of horror stories, about half of which are set in the Derbyshire town.
Some work better than others, In the acknowledgements Cranham states that the first story he wrote was just a flight of fancy about murderous cows conceived as he sat opposite a field of cows.
It shows that this was the first attempt but the progress made since is encouraging, There are some great ideas and they are shocking this is a good thing for the genre! but the best is saved for last.
The title story of the collection is a long short story but conveys such sadness and anticipation as it reached its conclusion that it deserves a space of its own.
A fine start to what is hopefully a longer writing career, I was given this book by the author who posted a giveaway on Goodreads in return for an honest review, I can't thank you enough, Tom, This book was an absolute blast to read and I didn't want it to end, Please tell me you're writing more,
If anyone is in the mood for scary yet funny storytelling, especially since it's getting closer to Halloween, I highly recommend this book.
Each story gets even better than the previous one and it's the perfect book to read before you go to sleep or at least keep you awake while you scare yourself silly.
This book has everything
to get you in the mood for Halloween or in my case, Halloween is all year round haha! There's vampire cows, ghosts and very creepy, cannibalistic clowns.
If you loved watching "Tales From the Darkside" or "Tales From the Crypt" and wanted more creepy storytelling, then this book is definitely for you.
Seven stories of the macabre attempt to answer the most important of questions Are zombies victims of discrimination Does Death really care Are ghosts or humans more evil Does what side you wake up on make you either a saint or the Devil incarnate If cows that keep out of the sun, have they lost interest in grass for something more bloody How would a bedtime story go in a world over run by the brain eating undead And what if a little girl's clown toy came to life with murderous intent Overpages of heavily illustrated literature that delivers many a sleepless night! The seven stories edited by Simon MarshalJones are.
. . 'Oh to be Alive' 'The Rule of Three' 'The Ghost of Bone Mill and the Infinite Man' 'The Left is Sinister' 'The Cows are Coming' 'A Bedtime Story' 'Everyone Loves Clowns'.
