Achieve Fais Un Sourire, Maggy (Maggy Garrisson #1) Penned By Lewis Trondheim Listed As Paper Copy
jonka päähenkilönä on neuvokas nuori nainen, Maggy, Mainiota, noirhenkistä tunnelmaa. Tämäpä oli kiva! Suorasukaisen kovaksikeitettyä "kuka huijaa ketä" meininkiä asenteella, Hach, Maggy, ich mag dich, Maggy has been without a job in London for two years, Her neighbor sets her up as a secretary to Mr, Wight, an alcoholic private investigator, When he sends her home minutes after her arrival on her first day, Maggy cleverly solves one of his cases and pockets the fee, When her boss is assaulted and hospitalized, Maggy is left to her own devices,
Maggy Garrisson is a great British detective noir, Maggy is a flawed female lead, which is a nice change from Chandler and Hammetts sexism, Maggy is also going down some mean streets with thugs and thieves aplenty,
This comic is highly recommended for fans of hardboiled private detective fiction, Even the art is dark in the world of Maggy Garrisson, stars!
Thanks to the publisher, Europe Comics, and NetGalley for a copy, This was a great quick read, The title character is brilliant and truly what makes this graphic novel great: she isn't your everyday heroine with perfect life and that was refreshing, The noir vibe works well, and this is such a feast for the eyes, especially if London and Brighton are your thing, The plot leaves questions unanswered, but maybe we'll get explanations in the following stories, Maggy on työtön ja rahaton lontoolainen joka pääsee suhteilla virkaheiton yksityisetsivän apulaiseksi, Palkkaa ei tule ja työnantaja mukiloidaan sairaalakuntoon, mutta Maggy jatkaa jutun selvittelyä, Illuusiotonta ja rehellisen rujoa meininkiä, Kolme ja puoli tähteä, mutta ihan ei kanna tänään neljään mollukkaan saakka, Jään silti odottamaan mielenkiinnolla jatkoa, I mainly know Lewis Trondheim from two of his works, The Spiffy Adventures of McConey read them in Finnish, because most of them haven't been released in English yet and sitelink Dungeon: Zenith Vol.
: Duck Heart with sitelink Joann Sfar and its sequels,
I "only" gave this one four, simply because it is not as good as the works mentioned above and also some glitches in the plot the book is quite plotdriven, after all.
But make no mistake, the tales of Maggy Garrisson is solid by any standards and I look forward to see where the story goes from here,
Artwise, I thought that it aptly captured the feeling of both being in modernday England and also being alone that seemed to be bubbling under the surface of the story.
Useammassakin lähteessä tätä on kovin kehuttu, Ja olihan se hyvä, mutta ei mitään erityisen uudenlaista missään mielessä, Onpahan vain onnistunut suunnilleen jokaisella osaalueella, rennosti kulkevaa laatutyötä,.for sitelinkMaggy Garrisson, a tough as nails misanthrope who has been down on her luck, She finally lands a job as an assistant to a P, I. and, well, let's just say that things don't go smoothly, Before she knows it, she's caught up in some sort of underworld scheme,
Maggie is a fantastic character with just the right blend of snark and wit, I'm really looking forward to reading more of her adventures,
My only quibble with this book was that so many panels were crammed onto each page that it was more difficult for me to read than I would like.
Thank you to NetGalley and Europe Comics for providing me with a free electronic ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review, .Stars
I was provided an ARC via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review,
I dont know what to say about this
It wasnt bad but it wasnt for me,
First of all, I didnt like the drawings, the art, it really wasnt my cup of tea,
Then, the story was interesting, I guess but the characters fell flat to me, The first one, especially, lacked depth in my opinion and I couldnt like her, she was onedimensional,
It was really short though and the plot wasnt that bad, . .
Kiinnostava aloitus sarjalle. Hyvin lyhyt teos, joten arvostelu hankalaa,tähteä.
Piirrosjälki on oivallista: Lontoon, Brightonin, ym sateisia maisemia on kiva katsella,
Sarjan avausosa on lupaava, mutta riippuen jatkosta tällä on mahdollisuus lässähtääkin, The first time I've tried this author, Unfortunately, I don't think this one is for me, I just didn't really feel like much went on and if anything did happen it wasn't well connected.
Not for me, sorry! Aivan mainio päähenkilö tässä sarjassa, Maggy Garrissonilla ei mene hommat ihan putkeen, mutta uuden työn hän onnistuu saamaan yksityisetsivän sihteerinä, Maggylla on omatkin hoksottimet ihan kohdillaan, joten ennen pitkää hän on sotkeutunut melkoiseen huijausvyyhtiin, Siinä matkan varrella ehtii tosin nauttia pubioluen jos toisenkin, I liked this one because I really liked Maggy, A tough broad with a mouth who has been unemployed for over two years mostly because she tends to tell people exactly what she thinks of them she finally gets a job.
Unfortunately her new boss is a drunken underemployed private detective who can't actually afford to pay her, Since he can't actually function she starts taking on little cases here and there like "finding" a lost canary by buying a new one because the old one was eaten by a cat.
When the boss man gets beaten within an inch of his life and asks her to secure a wallet for her, things start to get really weird for Maggy though, after two extremely dumb crooks show up to get the wallet back and break her fingers.
This is part one of at least apart series, and though it does provide SOME closure, I would love to see what is next for Maggy.
I just adored this. My best description is that it's like an episode of The Rockford Files, except that Jim Rockford is replaced with a twenty something disaffected female and everything takes place in England.
Maggy is a somewhat hard to get along with person who, after being unemployed for far too long, takes a job as a secretary to a private investigator and then handles some of his cases with a quite unorthodox approach.
As in The Rockford Files, she's helped by a friendly rapport with some of the same criminals she's supposed to be opposing,
I have long loved Trondheim's work, but was surprised to see his writing work so well in the crime genre, And the art by Oiry conveys just the right atmosphere: nobody is pretty, but everyone is understandable, There are two more of these small volumes I do plan to pick them up, Nyt oli mainio! Lontoolaisella Maggy Garrisonilla ei mene putkeen, mikä on hämmästyttävää, kun kyseessä on kuitenkin melko nokkela muikkeli, Maggy saa työtä yksityisetsivän sihteerinä, Duuni on ensimmäinen pitkään aikaan, ja vaikka työnantajan erikoislahjana näyttää olevan pasianssi ja turpaan ottaminen, alkaa pian näyttää siltä, että rahaakin saattaisi olla luvassa.
Kuten aina, asiat sotkeutuvat, Kenen följyyn kannattaa lyöttäytyä
Tästä sarjiksesta ja Maggien mutkattomasta hahmosta tuli mieleen Sue Graftonin kovaksikeitetty dekkari, Kinsey Millhone, A quite engaging character is Maggie Garrisson, On the face of it all she wants is a job but as the story unfolds she also likes money, fags, booze and blokes, Not on any particular order but once her friend offers her the opportunity to work with her nephew in a seedy investigatory agency we see Maggies talents at work.
She has a angle for doing the unusual to achieve her ends and she is bright and clever,
When her boss is attacked and taken to hospital over his wallet she is asked by him to keep it safe, She quickly determines what value the contacts may have, The story thereafter shows her at her lowest but also unsure of who to trust to retrieve the items that everybody seems so keen to get their hands on.
Her boss sacks her and she appears to be right out of friends as she drowns her sorrows over a pint,
Then fate offers her another throw of the dice,
I liked the characters and the reality of the drawings of familiar high streets and every day locations, Maggie is an interesting person to base the stories around and I would be keen to learn more about her exploits, A good graphic novel of the low level crime and thuggery, but wrapped around humorous situations and clever moves from Maggie, However, you just know that with her success and failure are just sides of the same coin but whatever side it lands shell get on with it even if shell not smile.
The main character Maggy Garrison lands a job with a shabby P, I. after a long unemployment. Maggy is delightfully resourceful and wry, but also gloomy at times hence the name of the story,
I loved the use of colors, The pubs, London and Brighton in rain are pictured wonderfully noir, Maggy Garrisson ist mir sofort ans Herz gewachsen: leicht übergewichtig und vom Leben nicht verwöhnt, besticht die Großstadtpflanze durch kaltschnäuzigen Witz und scharfen Verstand.

Haven't read anything by Lewis Trondheim in a while, and definitely didn't think a book like this would remind me why he's such an amazing writer, I didn't even like the art at first glance, All that changed after a few pages, The artwork is amazing and it fits Trondheim's writing much, much better than another, far superior artist, Matthieu Bonhomme does on Trondheim's other book, Texas Cowboys, The timing is perfect, both in writing and in art, it's a perfect match, While reading Texas Cowboys, which is also amazingly written I had a feeling "this could've been drawn by Trondheim as well and it
wouldn't really change a thing" so I expected the same on Maggie.
Glad I was wrong. And glad that there's still comic books of this quality being produced! Absolutely recommended, especially for those who have seen all the tropes in crime fiction, .
