was a silly premise, but it works because the characters are so ridiculous and OTT, Receptionist heroine is annoyed at CEO hero boasting how he'll never marry since he gets just what he wants from women, so she puts a notice of their engagement in the paper.
He's angry and calls her up to his office and to her surprise, tells her the engagement is on.
They go ring shopping on the lunch hour and he takes her to a party that night, She then overhears gossip that he is only engaged to hide his affair with a married woman,
Hero was a little dense and jealous, heroine was a little too angry but they should calm right down after they finally have that sex scene they've been wanting throughout the story.
Hint: take phone off hook She is doormat
He is asshole and I didn't believe he love her !! lust is the right word.
. . A little bit of a disappointment: I read it some time ago but I remember that I did not appreciate heroine's character at all: her emotions are a constant "up and down".
. . TOO MUCH.
This is my all time favorite Harlequin Romance and in the, years in which I've own a copy, I've read it so many times that page after page fell out I still have that copy somewhere.
I bought another copy inand another in the later in the decade, Jarrod is my fantasy man,
All the characters are likable although the older I got, the more irritating the heroine Brooke got, until I remembered she is barely out of her teens.
Every time I read it I becomeagain also, I last read it about a year ago so it's time for another go around, كمن يكدب الكذبة ويصدقها Just a sentimental thing this was the first "grown up" series romance I read, : Loved this book. Brooke is hilarious. Definitely worth reading. Brooke Faulkner is tired of hearing about all the women her boss, notorious playboy billionaire, Jarrod Stone, has affairs with.
Deciding to teach Jarrod a lesson, Brooke announces to the press that Mr, Stone is finally getting married, And the bridetobe Brooke herself!
But her joke backfires when Jarrod announces he has every intention of holding her to the engagement And before long Brooke's fervently wishing for their mock engagement to be a real one! Slightly better than one star, it's silly withdimensional characters but not infuriating or disgusting, so I'm giving it two.
Heroine is annoying and bratty and hero is unbelievable, I didn't finish, skimmed through to the end,

Brooke had no intention to marry or engage herself with Jarrod Stone, but here she was! Lol, she had to expect it! This book is a perfect example of “play stupid games, win stupid prizes.
” However hero has a cat called Rupert so thats okay,
Back to playing stupid games and winning stupid prizes though, I loved the plot even though it was highly unbelievable and over the top, the hero was outrageous and i liked him! He always knew what he wanted and never hesitated! The heroine tended to be too immature and i started to dislike her immensely as the story moved on cos she was just doing too much, which dampened the fun.
It was so easy to see they were both besotted with each other yet they were both so blind to the fact.
ALSO, they bickered too much and their bickering was kinda entertaining but then got old fast when the bickering continued to the very last chapter!
One of the most ironic moments was when the author sooort of broke the HP fourth wall right here:
“Dont be ridiculous! And I certainly wouldnt be your real wife.
I may have been reading too many romantic novels, but I think I prefer the way they turn out.
You do He looked surprised, But they usually end up with the hero and the heroine in each others arms, dont they
Well, yes, butwe wont!”
And she right cos with the amount of arguing they did i dont believe this HEA of theirs will ever happen either.
I was hesitant at first for this story, I mean did you read the plot on the back of the book The h, Brooke, actually takes out a newspaper announcement saying she is engaged to her boss, Jarrod Now this isnt one of those situations where she works directly under him, she is a small cog in a very big wheel.
He is the wheel! He has no idea who she is, So why did our little Miss Nobody make such a bold claim Keep reading
year old Brooke has fallen in love with heryear old boss from afar.
She has a chance to take a model to histh floor office for a meetinghis secretary is out This may also be her chance to get noticed.
However, she happens to hear the H talking to a friend about the assets of a woman,
I'm afraid I only find women good for one thing," he scoffed lightly, "And I don't mean housework," he added with a laugh,
Later in the conversation, .
"I enjoy them," Jarrod Stone had corrected, "I don't know that I've ever actually liked them, But I've desired them, yes, But I find them preferable more as bed companions than as anything else, "
.
Adding insult to injury he then refers to the h as a mouse:
.
A smile and a few softly spoken words and any woman will do exactly what you ask them to, even that little mouse.
She knows very well it isn't her job to bring people up to the offices, and yet she did it, anyway.
"
Well, his comments dropped him down a few levels in the hs mind especially as he gave her a quick assessment and left with the model for lunch.
So, how does she get back at a man that she has no active relationship with She puts the engagement announcement in the paper.
Anyhoo, after the H is congratulated by one of his business associates, he goes about looking into the situation.
Upon finding out, he summons the h to his office and insists she will stay engaged for a certain amount of time until he can successfully extricate himself from the embarrassment a fake engagement would cause.
He makes her go ring shopping and insists she attend a party with him that night and his parents on the weekend.
She is not comfortable with this but goes along with it as she caused the fracas,
Later at the party she overhears some women talking about the manwhore Jarrod, and how this engagement is probably a case of of covering up his affair with the beautiful but very married Selinahe must have read sitelinkTemporary Wife He doesnt deny or really confirm the rumor, but he does allow the ow Selina to hang all over him.
She tells him he can take his ring and shove it as she is not about to hide his affair.
He tells her his family is expecting his fiance and she is the reason for the mess,
His family is great, The orphaned h who was brought up by an angry aunt loves the parents, making her feel even guiltier about the situation.
He also has anyear old sister and an attractiveyear old brother who is training to be a doctor.
OH, and he has a thing for the h, They are at the house overnight, and the h has a bad dream, The H brings her to his bedroom and they snuggle all night, Of course the brother and sister break into the room without knocking and catch them, However, the H does explain to his mom, Later, the h takes off for the woods after she is embarrassed and the H finds her, They have their first major kiss and the h is ready to cash in her v card, but then they are interrupted by a sibling.
Back home he throws her a surprise birthday party after keeping his distance a couple of days.
At the party is his family and the sexy Selina with her husband in tow, She spends most of the evening clinging to the H while the h dances with others including his brother.
The evening doesnt end well for our couple, but shortly after this they start spending nights at the hs place talking, eating, and listening to records.
Leo Sayer, Barry Manilow, Johnny Mathis
And Here I go my friends, Im in elementary school sitting in the back seat of a station wagon with fake wood trim listening to the radio play “I feel Like Dancing” by Leo Sayer, followed by Copacabana by Barry Manilow.
oh the memories of thes!
So basically the story continues in the following manner the H pursuing the h by being a jerk and not just telling her he has fallen in love with her.
The h meanwhile is pushing him away as she only wants to marry for love, although she does suffer from the the dreaded traitorous body syndrome.
Even though I was hesitant about this story, I actually grew to like it,
What I liked
It is nice to see afootheroine tame afootlion hero who
thought he couldnt be tamed.
It is juvenile of me, but I like when the h has other men vying for her attention.
It causes the jealousy in the hero to surface and he feels the need to take aggressive maneuvers.
The h, aside from her traitorous body, stood up to the H, this in turn was one of the things that attracted him.
I like that the Hero was sensitive about their age gap, I love age gaps! However, they are often skimmed over, The H actually was a little worried about the difference in their ages especially when he sees younger more age appropriate men swarming the h.
I like the intensity of the Hero, its lines like this that make me lol: God, Brooke," he groaned raggedly.
"Don't you ever wear a bra" His voice thickened with desire as he took the tip of one hardened nipple into his mouth, arousing her body to even greater heights.
I like the ending where the H finally comes clean about his feelings for the h and is worried is that he left if for late.
She assures him she has loved him much longer,
I like that the h wants to take their relationship to the next level, and at this point the H wants them to be wedded firstbut quickly.
My wth moment: The brother of the H was way out of line, He fancied himself in love with the h and went after her almost threatening like, He did not know that their engagement was fake, So that doesnt scream brotherly love,
My lol moment: The reference to thes tunes and I can just imagine the dance club they went to.
Studiocomes to mind:
I will leave this review from Leo Sayers iconic song, I can imagine the hero feeling this way by the end of the book:
You've got a cute way of talkin'
You got the better of me
Just snap your fingers and I'm walkin'
Like a dog hangin' on your lead
I'm in a spin, you know
Shakin' on string, you know
You make me feel like dancin'
I wanna dance the night away
