Find Claras Song Illustrated By Kitty Margo Shown In Document
crack these fantasy eggs and fry me an omelet, cause I just cant swallow it whole,
When the war drums began to beat is Charleston, South Carolina, not everyone rushed to arms, Some realized that any war between north and south would end up badly for the south, Captain Joshua, a sugar planter and shipping magnate, decided to move his sugar plantation to Jamaica and escape the wrath that was sure to destroy the southern states.
He frees his slaves and the family embarks on the Windjammer, a clipper ship,
Clara Jordan is an orphan that lived with the Jordan family and they legally claimed her as one of their own, Clara isnt your average young woman, She has a few startling traits stemming by her biological mother, Every hundred years, the first daughter of a first daughter can live three hundred years or more making them, for all practical purposes, immortal, There are other “gifts” that set her apart from the norm, The Joshua decided to abandon Sea Grove, their South Carolina plantation and move to Jamaica via Trinidad,
Will Willoughby meets Clara at a Charleston ball and a band between the two young people is soon formed, He too departs with the family to their Caribbean refuge,
I must say that this book is a disappointment to me, The premise is solid but the writing is uninspiring and juvenile, Time travel novels have become popular over the past few years, Most of this travel is into the past but this one goes in the opposite direction, I can well imagine that someone traveling fromto the present would be terrified of everything, I have a little problem with the ready acceptance of these time travelers by everyone in their new surroundings, To my chagrin, I admit being a hopeless romantic, but Im not gullible enough to swallow this tale,
Clark's Song is wonderful
I have read lots of time travel books, and loved most of them, This book is one of my favorites, I enjoyed the twist of an immoral, special healing powers and the sweet way Clara comes across, I did think when she time travelled she appeared to be older thanwith how she acted, This book keeps you wondering and wanting, I found myself willing her to get back to Will, than wanting her to stay with Travis, The writing pulled me right into the story with the players, Going now to get the second d book, Recommend this book to all,
Cheap shot cliffhanger
I won't go into what I think of this author's writing abilities, or the story's plot, or anything else about this novel.
. . except to say I absolutely abhor an undisclosed cliffhanger! I refuse to read anything else in this series or anything written by her or any author who willingly and conivingly sneaks in cliffhangers without forewarning.
I haven't read any other books by this author but from looking at other reviews I gather some of the characters have been featured in previous books, This book seems geared to the young adult reader and the Clara, the heroine, is young and naive in many ways but has many "gifts" or powers that she has yet to learn how to control.
I knew time travel was involved from the title of the book but was surprised to find the time travel was to the future which made for an interesting twist especially as there are romantic attachments for Clara in both time periods.
Good thing that one of her gifts is that she will live to be around, . . or is it Only time will tell as the reader must buy bookto get some answers and I gather there is also a bookcoming out in the Fall.
I'm interested enough I would read more if the price were right, but I also think I may have an idea where the author is headed with this one.
Good story, distracting errors
I enjoyed most of the story, I feel that the main character lost too much of who she is at the end just to meet certain criteria of a romance story, so that lost me.
The cliff hanger does make me want to read more, though, I mean wonderful . I have no idea if in another point in my life i would have liked or disliked the book, but i am glad I
did it at this point.
Funny thing is that I wanted to read this book before but i just couldn't so i left it aside, Now I love it and i am glad that this is my goodreadsth book,
i have thought for a long time that i was born in the wrong decade and it is so simple to not appreciate what we take for granted.
In this story you can feel the excitement of new things, I don't have enough words to describe it, I just loved it. Read this review and more at sitelinkClassy Cat Books, :
I have to qualify this by stating that I don't normally read romance books pure romance generally just doesn't do much for me.
So it's pretty meaningful that I actually sat down and read this book in one day, It had just enough fantasy in it to draw me in, Oh, and Margo treated us to a bit of timetravel, which I will pretty much never have a problem with,
There's a heavy dose of things I don't normally like: there's some instalove, there's a love triangle, and there's some "Oh, my life sucks" stuff going on from Clara.
These things are all handled a bit differently than I'm used to, so I waited them out happily enough,
The instalove, for instance, wasn't entirely instant it developed, and there was even some significant amount of hate as part of the development, But it was still pretty damn quick,
The love triangle is, . . well, I think I'd need to read the second book before commenting too much on it, For once I actually like the second guy to come into the picture more, And it's a love triangleyears apart, and the relationship with guy numero dos develops so gradually that it was actually kind of sweet more than annoying,
And Clara's "Oh, my life sucks" bits at the beginning were, quite frankly, pretty well founded, And it wasn't like she complained all that much less than most of the books I've read in this genre
And I'm intrigued by the role of magic in this world.
The timetravel bit was incredibly entertaining, especially when Travis talks Clara into seeing a gynecologist for a proper exam, Tee hee. I will say that some of her "Wow, this is so different!" reactions seemed to come in the wrong order, It's not until after a few days in modernthat she comments on the state of the bathrooms, for example,
Overall, a very enjoyable read :
PS I love the cover of this one!
Excerpt:
Chapter One
Charleston, SC
August,
By midnight at Hibernian Hall Clara had danced six dances.
Joseph Gibbs had tripped on the hem of her skirt, bless his heart, and ended up on his knees as if seeking divine intervention for just one night of social grace.
Leland Montague had simply atrocious breath evidently he had an unseen rotting tooth, making her continuously look the other way for a breath of fresh air, Walter Wragg didnt speak a word during the entire dance, blushing profusely when she so much as looked him directly in the eye, Albert Tradd held her entirely too close, causing her father to intervene and have a few choice words with the young dandy on the balcony, Ashby Calhoun, her last dance partner, had bragged incessantly of his familys wealth, his travels abroad, and what a great catch he would be for any of Charlestons Southern belles.
Her coming out ball certainly was not turning out as planned,
Clara shuddered at the mere thought of being trapped in a loveless marriage with the offerings thus far, Spinsterhood had never looked more tempting,
