Khalil Gibran (1883-1931) was a Lebanese-American artist, poet, and philosopher. Regarded as a literary and political rebel, his romantic style was at the heart of the renaissance in modern Arabic literature.

- جبران كان اديباً، فيلسوفاً، شاعراً ورساماً لكن اهم ميزة كانت فيه انه كان إنساناً: إنساناً خلوقاً متعاطفاً وثوري، يدعوك كل حين الى الإرتقاء بنفسك نحو الأعلى .. ومن هنا لا تعود غريبة تسمية "النبي" ب "الإنجيل الجديد" في الغرب...

This is a great collection. Inspiring, enlightening, engrossing, touching,... the best of Khalil. It's a collection of his english works. Most of his other works are collected in the Treasury of Khalil Gibran series, which I'd recommend, as well. I bought this book at special price from here:

Kahil Gibran
In my humble opinion this is one of the greatest prophets and writers of all time. He immigrated to the United States as an adolescent, and was part of our culture unlike so many that were years ago.
His superb title THE PROPHET is poetry and philosophy for almost any time or place.
As is obvious I am in total awe and dependence on his brilliance and immense humanity and understanding of the human condition in a very spiritual, enlightened and passionate man. -

استمتعت بالقصص القصيرة ، احببت فصل "المسيح" لأنه اضاف اليّ الجديد عن شخصيته العظيمة و طريقته البسيطة في الحياة .
المحبة لا تعطي الا نفسها .. ولا تأخذ الا من نفسها
المحبة لا تملك شيئاً .. ولا تريد ان يملكها أحد
لأن المحبة مكتفية بالمحبة
من أجمل ما قرأت .. -
Mystical, religious, perhaps esoteric, but still an amazing read. Khalil Gibran had a real talent for prose, and even more so for poetry, and this is coming from somebody not poetically inclined. Also contains his art. Worth getting just for the harmony of the words as they bounce around in your head.

Some books are magical. They have the potential to transform your life. I had the most fulfilling experience reading this epic. Every word a jewel, every thought a wisdom, every prose revolutionary.

In the current world of memes and lowering attention span, we do often come across few gems left by the great Khalil Gibran. But reading his complete work was like finding a treasure trove. Gibran came from a lost world of Lebanon. A land with ancient wisdom and other world charm. The reader is taken to his world where innocence still exists and the characters speak a language of the soul.
A soulful work by an enlightened author which deserves multiple reading. -
جبران خلط مع حبره نور.
و كلماته انارت الصفحات بعاطفة حمراء، و دموع سوداء.
امضيت عدة شهور بالقرب من قلم جبران،
استمعت لموسيقاه،
و شاهدت عرائسه بين المروج،
و احسست بتمرد روحه،
و مشيت على الأجنحة المتكسرة،
و من بين العواصف،
جرينا في مواكب شعره،
و عندما ارقدت الكتاب على الرف الأحمر،
رسمت دمعة، و مزقت ابتسامة. -

هي الأعمال التي كتبها جبران قبل وخلال وبعد المهجر .. ما كتبه بالعربية وما كتبه بالأجنبية وتلقيناه مترجماً .. في أعمال جبران .. هو ينبذ التسلط الديني النفعي .. ويهاجم المادة وينادي بالروح .. بالحب والجمال .. يضع الحب في أعلى المراتب ويتغنى فيها في كل أعماله.. وينبذ الساطة الدينية وينادي بالإنسانية أو التكافؤ الإنساني مع اختلاف الأديان .. يذكرني في نبذه للكنيسة بتوليستوي .. كتاباته هي أقرب للصوفية .. وهو كدوستويفسكي يدافع عن الفقراء والمهزومين في الحياة .. يضع السارق والمسروق في ذات الكفّة .. يرفض معاقبة المجرم .. فلولا ظلم البشر لما صار مجرماً .. يتكلم عن الله كثيراً مرة بالمديح وأخرى بعدم الرضا ..
التائه وحديقة النبي .. أصدرت بعد وفاته ..
استمتعت بأعماله .. حتى في عمله ( يسوع ابن الإنسان ) .. الذي يتحدث فيه عن يسوع من قصص مريدي�� وكارهيه وأصدقائه .. أحببته .. من الجميل أن تعرف قصة عن نبي من أنبياء الله تعالى من وجهة نظر معتنقيه .. عندما تقرأ لجبران تشعر أنك تقرأ كتاب من كتب الأناجيل .. جبران كان مسيحياً مؤمناً .. لكن بطريقته ..

Khalil gibran really doesn't have a variety of style, and he falls short of his aim multiple times to be profound and to say profound things, however, this guy is the 3rd best selling poet in the world behind shakespeare and lao tzu, so for that reason he is worth a looking over.
I got into reading him because I saw some quotes of his online and thought they were beautiful. Gibran really does have a lyrial style to his writing which makes his work pleasant and enjoyable to read. -
أكثر ما أعجبني في هذه المجموعة هي الطريقة التي ترجمت بها من الإنجليزية إلى العربية، حيث إنها ترجمة أكثر من رائعة وكأن جبران خليل جبران قد خطها بالعربية بنفسه.

1. The prophet provides a pearl of everlasting spiritual wisdom on a wide range of subjects. These topics include buying and selling goods and services; teaching; pleasure; crime and punishment; law; time; death; beauty and friendship.
2. A book of aphorism, poems, and parables. This contains timeless; wisdom and universal appeals. Here, the writer is a wanderer and sees the world from a different perspective.
3. The writer became a madman when he chased the people who had stolen all his masks when he was fast asleep. All the men and women laughed at him. His sorrows were born no one heeded the writer and he was all alone with his joy. Slowly as time progressed his joys died in isolation.

5. The writer is his own forerunner and the towers which he has built are the foundation of their own selves. Here the writer shows us dynasties, love, poems, king's daughters. Moreover, it tells us about values, repentance, and how destruction gathers in the garden daily.
6. The writer tells us about the process of childbearing. It is a poet’s hell.
7. Nymph of the valley is an interesting story of a young poor girl. How the girl is loveable, kind, and his story of reincarnation from a seduced and a stranded city. It shows the corruption in the city for the elite to maintain their status and wealth.
8. Tears and laughter run from the gambit of death from pure love and separation. Everything beautiful that awakens love and desire is a disgrace.
9. Between night and morn shows us the long voyage of sea and soul. It reveals the truth of love death and life. On the other hand, it also shows the reader that the soul is your friend.
10. Secrets of heart reveals the past, present, and future of the world along with its understanding.
11. Sprits rebellious shakes out of the slumbers and the social norms. Here the writer ignites the soul with fire and rebellion.
12. A young man falls in love with a woman and both of them become corrupted by trying to protect the woman’s rights. The woman dies with her newborn son in her hand and they were buried in the same grave.

“The Prophet” speaks to my heart in a way so few other works do, and it is certainly the crowning jewel of Gibran’s writings in my humble opinion. However, for the seeker of inspiration and enlightenment, there is so much more in his other works in this collection. Gibran's command of the pen gives so many quotes throughout this work on the human condition that speaks as clearly today to the heart and the mind as in the days when Gibran wrote them.
The quote that shredded at my heartstrings the most for my personal life was: “Feed the lamp with oil and let it not dim, And place it by you, So I can read with tears what your life with me has written upon your face.” To me this speaks of tears of sorrow as well as joy for the people who have either chosen or been chosen to be in my life. -

ماذا أحكي عن جمال هذا الكتاب! او لعلني قبل ذلك أتكلم عن جمال جبران وروحِ جبران، وأسلوبِ جبران؟ إنك لن تستطيع أن تتخيّر عما تود الكتابةَ عنه بدون أن تحتار وتتردد كثيرًا في ذلك، لقد ألهمني جبران الحب، وعلمني جبران كنه الروح، وقادني جبران نحو سهولٍ رحبةٍ من الفنّ الكلاميّ والمجازات المنمقّة والمشاعر المتدفقة كنسماتِ هواءٍ عليلة تؤجج فيكَ مشاعر قدسيّة، وتجعلكَ تعيشُ أرواحًا عدّة في قوالب عدّة، إنك مع جبران ستعيش في ملكوت السماوات مع الملائكة والقديسين، مع الأفكار البيضاء المستترةِ خلف حجابٍ من الكلمات التي لا يعيها إلا من يرهفُ السمع ويفتح باب قلبهِ على مصراعيه، مع جبران فهمتُ كيف يجب أن تكون الكتابة، وعرفتُ كيف أحب الكتابة، إلى حيثُ أنت يا جبران ترقد، ارقد بسلام، ارقد يا سيدي بسلام.
