on A Place for Alfreda

bothers me about this blurb for the book is that it isn't accurate, First of all, no one calls a beautiful girl with bright red hair mousey, Second, Alfreda can't inherit from her father, as she is a woman and the title and estate go to the MALE heir, She is simply proof that the man her father has been claiming is his heir simply isn't, With no male issue, the title and estate what is left of it after the earl's dissipation will go to a cousin, However, that has little to do with the enjoyment of the book, For an heirswapping book, this one is pretty good, as most of the action has to do with Alfreda being in danger of discovery before proof of her birth is found, and her constant runins with Mark Savage, a man who is usually capable of sweeping all the ladies along with his gallantry, but who is forever putting Alfreda's back up and terrorizing her into a temper.
Add to this her brutal and selfabsorbed half brother lumbering in the background, wanting to do away with our heroine, and you've got yourself a book.
I found the ending clumsy and a little difficult to swallow, but I found this one more plausible and with fewer coincidences than other Chater novels.
It's such a shame that the covers of these books are so, . . Awful.
In this story, there is crime, neglect, compassion, fiery tempers and much more, It is a fantastic read and certainly nowhere is there a simpering brown haired woman with a fan! Regency When Alfreda arrives in London, she learns she had been switched at birth for a male so the family fortune and title would not be lost.
She had grown up aching to know her real parents, and now that she's an adult, she's discovering things about them she wishes she hadnt.
Should her aristocratic lineage and the scandalous swap meant to conceal it be made
