collection of puzzles, originally two books by the famous Lewis Carroll, Most of the puzzles don't show any age, and some are an absolute pleasure to ponder.
Socalled 'pillow problems' because their solutions will haunt you, always seeming just out of reach, as you lie sleeplessly considering what had appeared to be a simple riddle.
This is a wonderful book of puzzles, games and other gems, I was using it as a source to supplement my Lewis Carroll posts on sitelink uark. edu/. Como amante de la matemática creí que este libro sería uno de mis favoritos en la materia, pero estoy segura que este libro es mejor en inglés, pues en español no le encontré ninguna chispa de ánimo, gracia y es más, ni siquiera me pareció interesante.

Llegó un punto en el que decidí abandonarlo, pero no me di por vencida y enhorabuena, porque Lewis Carrol soluciona los problemas planteados con picardía y mucha habilidad.

Pero eso no fue suficiente para que si quiera llegue a darle dos estrellas,
La razón por la que le doy esta calificación al libro es porque en lugar de tener la version completa, el traductor se toma la libertad de escribir un ensayo sobre por qué incluyó cosas y quitó otras del texto, en casi la cuarta parte del libro.

Por otro lado, este libro tiene cosas interesantes, porque el traductor consideró que “no tienen importancia para el lector actual”, puede que sí o no, pero no es motivo para que se tome la libertad de descuartizar partes o cambiarlas para que el libro sea mejor.

Hay algunos títulos, frases, etc, que tienen mucho sentido y humor en inglés, pero la traducción fue literal el mismo traductor lo mencionó y eso hizo que el libro no tenga sentido para mí.

En conclusión, fue una experiencia completamente aburrida y definitivamente si alguien desea leerlo, hágalo en inglés y no en español, porque aparte de tener una traducción desagradable, no contiene el texto en su totalidad.
El original debe ser tremendamente entretenido, Lástima que la traducción no le hace nada de justicia,

La selección de textos fracasa horriblemente, Parece que me topé con un libro cualquiera de Álgebra con problemas interesantes, Lo que me pasó con Lewis Carroll es como cuando conocés a un director de cine por su mejor película: a partir de ahí es todo para abajo.
Casi todos transitamos durante nuestra infancia las dos Alicia, probablemente el punto más alto de su obra.
Sin embargo, la fascinación que genera hizo que leyera toda su obra de ficción y luego, al descubrir a Charles Dogdson su identidad real que es más máscara que su seudónimo su obra matemática.
En esta disciplina no hizo aportes innovadores sino que fue más un precursor de Paenza, un divulgador con particular interés en lo curioso: le divertían las paradojas, los acertijos y todos los mecanismos que también se encuentran entretejidos en sus novelas para chicos.


Esta selección recopilada por Leopoldo María Panero algunos de sus trabajos y tal vez pueda ser un poco tediosa o tiene un interés fuerte en estos temas.
El título del libro es medio engañoso porque bastante del contenido es más ficción cuando Dodgson sí tiene obras netamente matemática como el Juego de la Lógica o Lógica simbólica.
Tampoco tiene la fascinación que produce un Matemática e imaginación de Kasner y Newman o algunos de los libros de ensayos de Asimov que por lo menos es lo que yo esperaba de este libro.
El prólogo me resultó interesante aunque quizá excesivo en extensión un cuarto del libro! y su erudición explícita no marida muy bien con el estilo ameno y la secreta complejidad de Carroll.
Irregular. La traducción mejorable. El prólogo excesivo,

en muchas ocasiones el prologuista se olvida del libro y de Carroll.
