on The Silver Spoon

Being by her mother's side during the days of chemo treatments etc, she also faced the challenge of caring for her grandmother who had been diagnosed with Alheimer's which she lovingly accepted, Her mom's sister enters the picture only to want the family treasure, such as it was, The story keeps you cheering for Lizzie and wanting the Aunt to get her just dues, Too many times unpleasant family issues arise when it comes to ones inheritance, K. T. Archer gives much retrospect as final decisions are made in the story, Twentyfiveyearold Lizzy thinks if she keeps her eyes closed all the way, then maybe what she is experiencing will not be real, Her mother, who has always been her rock, is about to die from cancer, As her mother takes her last breath, Lizzywho has never truly been on her ownsteps into the unknown and begins a new life.

In the aftermath of her mother's death, Lizzy's inner strength is tested, as the dysfunctional secrets her family has managed to hide for years suddenly begin to bubble uprevealing the imperfections of those she loves and admires.
As Lizzy slowly realizes that her family may not have the emotional fortitude to unite after death, she heeds her mother's advice and decides not to trust the people she thought she could trust the most.
But when her father shows up on her doorstep and reveals the promise he made to her dying mother, Lizzy must decide whether to forgive him for his past mistakes even as she attempts to resolve the conflict that surrounds her family.

As Lizzy journeys down a path to a new awareness, she must overcome emotional obstacles in order to finally grow up.
Although not upbeat subjects dying mother, grandmother with Alzheimer's, jealous aunt and pretty much abandoned by her father I found this to be a novel where the characters grabbed me, even those I didn't care for much and I couldn't put it down.
Although I didn't like the aunt, I felt badly that it seemed so acceptable that she wasn't the favorite and everyone seemed surprised when she acted crazy driven by years of being told she was second best in love.
This is the first I've read by this author but I will read others, Young single professional faces challenges when her mother is diagnosed with cancer, Her divorced mother, who was her rock and best friend had also taken on the responsibilty of caring for her own mother who had been diagnosed with Alzheimer's.
This writer gives a glimpse into what many a family faces in times of crisis when other family members come forth, not to support, but to take what they feel is rightfully theirs.
She introduces characters who stand by their friendship to the very end, and the daughter is finally reunited with her father whom she had to learn to forgive.
Many situations in this novel can be identified with, by families facing the dreaded Cancer and Alzheimer's disease, I discovered this book when I attended the ribboncutting ceremony for our library's new pavilion which is beautiful, by the way! KT Archer was there signing copies of the book, and I could not pass up the chance to meet a real author and get her autograph on her first novel.
Especially since that author only lives an hour away, and grew up in a small south Alabama town very similar to mine,

I was captivated by this book from the very first pages, The trials that Lizzie, the main character, faces seem insurmountable, and I was taken with her through a very wide range of emotions.
In the opening chapters she is taking care of her mother who has cancer and later dies, while also trying to care for her grandmother who is suffering from Alzheimer's.
Like all good Southern girls, she manages the difficulties she faces with grace and manners, even when she feels like falling apart, From her Aunt Tonya, we see the other side the selfishness and bold rudeness of pure trash, And even though Lizzie gets angry and has to put Tonya in her place on several occasions, she makes sure that she is out of the hearing of her mother and grandmother, and does not allow Tonya to bait her into "showing out" in front of others.

This is one of the best books I have read in a very long time, It is well written, and even though they are not the main focus of the

book, the horrors of cancer, death, and Alzheimer's are handled in a beautiful and caring way.
As I said, you are taken with Lizzie through a wide range of emotions, which to me is always a sign of a wonderful book.
My only complaint is that the end felt very rushed, with a few loose ends neatly tied without any extra explanation, Perhaps they will be addressed in the next book in the Southern Family Drama series that should be released later this year, I can't wait to read it, and hope that it is just as enjoyable as this book
