Get It Now The Berenstain Bears Computer Trouble Formulated By Jan Berenstain Disseminated As Digital Copy
Bear decides to get a computer for his furniture business to make life a bit easier for him but before long, everyone in the house wants their own computer to email, do homework, surf the Internet and buy things on EBear.
Papa starts to think that the family are now spending too much time on the computer and not enough with family and friends so he decides on some rules for Internet use.
My kids love these books, This one was fairly relevant as we are dealing with how to balance device time and family time, If you have read any Berenstain Bears books you know what to expect with this one, Pleasantly surprised to find that the father wasn't a bum who frequently and sheepishly responds to the mother's wisdom, as in many Berenstain Bears books.
The internet is evil! EVIL! apparently, it makes little girls cry, wives spend too much money, and young boys neglect their homework.
And, as papa bear says, "people use the internet to get cubs to do things that arent safe, "
OK, so all of these things do happen, Still, this scaretactic of a story is laughable and trite, Dad says no more internet, kids go outside for some oldfashioned playtime, and everything is AOK! Yay!
Unilkely to either entertain or teach.
I felt like their resolution to cut down computer time didn't really address the cyber bullying issue, When Papa brings home a computer, the whole family is excited, Soon Mama, Brother, Sister, and even Honey start spending all day every day staring at their own computers, It's up to Papa to get the family off the computer and back into the real world! This is a more modern Berenstain Bears book and to me not as good as the older ones.
In this one everyone including the baby has a computer, Papa Bear is getting frustrated at all the time wasted and no one being family anymore, So he makes a rule where the computers are shut down except for an hour a day and has the children and Mama get back to doing things they used to like outside to play and her quilting.
And they soon learn they've missed doing those things, This book has a very good message to the children of today's lifestyle, So many don't know how to play on their own, or without anything electronic, So the lesson learnt in this book was good, I just felt it wasn't written as good as some of the older Berenstain Bears books, I just love the Berenstain Bear's stories! They are all full of love and imagination with a great intake of moral character to teach children everywhere! I highly recommend these wonderful books to everyone, everywhere because you can never go wrong with a lovely family of bears!
"The Berenstain Bears' Computer Trouble" was a hard pill to swallow for me and I am an adult! This story shows how much technology, especially computers and the internet have taken over most of everyone's time.
Whether at work or at home, many sit behind a computer and before they know it another day has past away.
This children's story helped me explain to my child while tablets can sometimes be a bad thing, and how playing outside is always great for everyone.
I love the Berenstain Bears and this one falls into a great read aloud for digital citizenship, This one is full of humor both in the story and illustrations that adults will enjoy too while sharing with kids or reading aloud.
The concept is important and as young students begin getting online and using computers, it generates good discussion topics to have with all.
YESit totally hits one over the head with its point, like nearly all the Berenstain Bear books, It's not really any better or worse than the rest of them, eitherbut it does serve a purpose, I don't think it is necessarily saying that the Internet is evilmore that it can sometimes become a drain on users when they overdo it.
At least, this is my feeling as I see very many families yes, people of ALL AGES who either haveor are creatingserious problems for themselves because of spending too much time and energy online.
There is a need to moderate, Hopefully kids can take away from this book the message that too much really can be too muchand not that the Internet is going to ruin everyone's lives.
I kind of want to laugh at this story because it's so utterly true, The moment we had one computer in the house was the moment everyone got a computer it seemed, One bred another and another until we have this very situation everyone sitting around on their computers all day long, Every day. My heavens, what a situation!
Getting everyone away from the screens is a great idea, But setting a goal for a maximum of an hour on the computer a day is good to an extent but it also needs to be evaluated in light of what's reasonable.
Most kids today need longer than that for homework alone,
I would dearly love, though, to see toddlers not staring at iPads all the time, Is that even good for their eyes Or social development
I'm glad to see the Bears at least tackling these difficult issues.
Really nice illustrations. In this Berenstain Bears adventure, Papa Bear buys a computer to make his life easier, The entire family ends up addicted to it in some fashion or other, Papa Bear instills some computer usage rules and the family returns to normal, This book is already a little dated, but the topic is still all too relevant, AR.OK look I read, no joke, at leastbooks per day to my kids, and I never count them here, but I read this one before appearing on a Berenstain Bears podcast, so I think it warrants a mention.
Did I mention I am, for the first time, behind on my reading challenge Highlights:
Why is Brother lusting after shoes when the bears never wear shoes
Who, exactly, does Herb The Mailman THINK HE IS
Honey is the literal worst, but it still seems like maybe someone should provide her with basic care such as food
How many hands does Papa have on the cover, because I see three
The end.
Shelving this under "journalism" because the podcast was sort of workrelated lol no it wasn't, Fun story for kids. It does a great job of teaching them about internet safety and cutting down on how often they use it, Both the big boys and the little guy enjoyed it! Meh This book hits very close to home today in an age where lots of people rely too heavily on technology.
Listen to the Berenstain Bears people!!!! If life were only that simple, In this book, papa buys a computer for work, but Sister and Brother go to his shop everyday to play games on his computer.
Then he thinks that Sister and Brother need their own computers to do schoolwork, Email, IMing, and social networking followed, Then Mama discovered buying and selling things on ebear and wanted a computer, too, Then Honey Bear began playing simple computer games on a toy computer, Soon he thought that the family was spending to much time in front of the computer, So he told the Mama bear and the cubs that he is going to turn off the computer every day except forhour.
The cubs figured out thehour was plenty, Papa had learned he didn't need to waste so much time online to get his business done, He was able to stay in his shop working with the wood he loved, Freed from the spell of ebear Mama got out her old quilting kit and started to work on a big quilt of birds and butterflies.
She got so involved that she didn't go online for evenhour, The next evening the bear family went to the movies, The movies that they were showing were Pirates Of The Bearibbean, Beary Potter, and SpiderBear, They picked SpiderBear and Spider Bear it was, pawbook for facebook, ebear for ebay
how computers and technology have changed how kids play and how families interact, I use this book in myrd/th grade Computer classes to kickstart a discussion about screen time, There is a negative message throughout the book about computer use, so Im careful to point out the extremes while discussing moderation.
Its a cute book and students seem to enjoy it, sitelink Stan and Jan Berenstain often called The Berenstains were American writers and illustrators best known for creating the childrens book series the Berenstain Bears.
