I do not exaggerate when I say that absolutely nothing happens in this book to advance the overall plot, very disappointing. I would be annoyed if I had actually purchased this novel. Barely worth the read. The writing is trite and cliched in the extreme. Teenagers act like they are 50, which I guess I could accept had that been the case from the start of the series, but it wasn't.

Update - So it's 06/02/2014 and I decided it was time to marathon the series in honor to read the final book. OH MY! I was such a cringey 15 year old. *covers face* However truth be told, I still feel the same way I felt 3 years ago. Schuyler does have some spunk but I genuinely find myself eye-rolling at everything she says in regards to Jack - BARF. Moving on to Jack, why is he so bland and boring. Book 1 Jack seemed exciting now not so much. Also what's with calling each other "Love" it sounds a tad silly considering they are only 16 after all.

Honestly I'm more interested in anything but the JACK and SCHUYLER relationship. I EVEN find mimi 10x more interesting, especially with oliver around we see a much kinder side to her, they're both as vulnerable as each other and as much as mimi denies that she can ever relate to oliver "red blood", she later on realized he's like her new safety blanker - i wish there was some romance there but since their thinking of rescuing kinsley that idea is down drain, but you never know :) I love kingsley anyway
The new blue blood, she seems/acts like she can kick ass and i already love her. SHE AWESOME !!!
Jack force weakens shuyler, yes there in love (blahblahblah) but do they really want history to repeat itself. BAD MOVE but overall the underline legacy is so thrilling, you forget about the jack and schuler crap adn start focussing on piecing each new clues together, Mellissa de la cruz is a great writer but a interpration of Schuler could be more likeable. I think the way she left oliver and jack not being bonded after all these centuries . i done know... BUT ITS A GREATTTTTT BOOOOOK

I've never liked the series very much, mainly because of those clothes digressions and useless descriptions, but the story wasn't so bad, so I kept reading. I thought the author was just showing off a bit and well, it's not like I know much about fashion, so it was a little annoying, but I could just skip that and give for granted she knew what she was talking about.
Now, here's the fifth book, and where are we? Italy, my country, apparently the new trend. I knew from the beginning it would end bad..
I don't need perfection, but I hate when authors write about things pretending they know the subject well, when they don't.
She started giving names of places in Liguria and food and houses, she might as well have said "I'm so cultured while you don't even know what I'm talking about" (while she probably just used Wikipedia and Maps), but still, I couldn't complain, she wasn't saying anything wrong (kind of..).
Then Jack and Schuyler meet those armed man: "The modern world had brought them cell phones and Internet-cafes, yet they lived in several-hundred-year-old farmhouses with no heating, and continued to make their bread and sausage by hand"; No heating, seriously?! What are we, cavemen? I mean, old people like the old times, but "carry on traditions" is one thing and being "folk who had never left the villages" is another.
They almost sound like Amish people.
And those are young men, living in the North part of Italy, there is absolutely NO way they live like that..I'm from Milan, but I also have a house in that area, I know what I'm talking about (unlike her). Melissa is a few decades too late in her description.
Gosh, how much I hate stereotypes..
I almost forgot about the "flesh trade"..I won't even go there..I just hope people understand that's all fictional, even though the author probably doesn't.
I haven't even read a third of the book so far, I wonder what expects me next.
I'm tempted to just stop reading, but I've come so far and I'm curious about the plot..I guess we'll see.

Blue Bloods series has always been a guilty pleasure for me, I know the series's flaws, but I can live with them.

Okay so I definitely give these books more credit than they deserve but THIS one was SO ROUGH. Honestly it was just petty and dumb and I read this book LESS THAN 12 HOURS AGO AND I CANNOT REMEMBER HOW IT ENDED?
The formatting was very uncomfortable in this one. It’s broken up into three different characters POVs, but rather than switching from one to the other, it’s just separated into blocks? The first third of this book follows Schyler and Jack and after that we see absolutely nothing of what they are doing until the end of the book??? The second and third parts go together a little more smoothly because even though the POV changes we at least are following the same story.
But it is just too convenient? The characters are so distracted by things that are completely irrelevant to IMPORTANT PLOT points and yet it all falls into place so perfectly despite there being no effort or attention paid to the real issues. It just felt messy. Which is saying something because none of these books are super?? I don’t even know how to explain it when a book in a series that isn’t spectacular is worse than the ones before it but this was just too petty for me to be actually interested in what was going on. The previous books balance the drama and the important stuff pretty well, and this one just didn’t. The drama overshadows everything and not in a good way.
I also felt very lost during the flashbacks in this one up until the end. Which is probably why I was so lost throughout this book and when it FINALLY clicked I was like oh yes this will probably work and I see where this is going but unfortunately that happened to late in this book for me to enjoy this/to save this TRAINWRECK. 2 stars because there is at the very least hope that the rest of the series might pick up and that everything that happened here wasn’t completely useless.
Also the flashbacks usually tie in with what is currently happening in the book and while I remember how the issue in the flashback ended and what that meant for the present I CANNOT remember how the actual problem that is present in this novel is solved/explained? -
Misguided Angel is the fifth book of the Blue Bloods Series. Instead of getting old it just keeps getting better..at least to me!
This book in particular is told in 3 parts. There's Jack and Schuyler's story, which is about their lives on the run in Italy and trying to find one of the gates to the Underworld and finish Lawrence's mission.
The second part is about Mimi and her status as Regent of The Conclave and how she tries to deal with some difficult obstacles thrown her way.
And last but not least the third part introduces a new character. Deming is a Venator sent from another Coven to try and solve some serious crimes that are being committed against the Duchesne Blue Bloods.
Besides these 3 stories there was also snippets of the earlier "Venators" in the 1400's tracking down silver bloods as well as demons.
I am really beginning to like Mimi, she becomes more likable in each new BB book. She is starting to show some real emotions and even feels badly for some of her past behavior. I absolutely hated her character before and now she is probably one of my favorites.
I'm almost not liking Schuyler at the moment because of the struggles that poor Oliver is going through. I know he pushed her to Jack but she knew that the Sacred Kiss issues were not going to be easily overcome, and maybe she shouldn't have started something she couldn't finish.
I think it was a good idea to bring in some fresh characters to keep the story from getting old. I'm also hoping Deming will play a part through more of the series and that her story isn't concluded after this one book.
The only complaint I have is that I wish there was more of Jack and Schuyler in this book and that there story wasn't left in midair. It just feels a bit incomplete.
I'm always excited to start the next BB book right after I read one but I just have to many series to finish up. I am also interested in reading the spinoff series about Bliss tracking the wolves who are supposed to help defeat the Silver Bloods. It looks like I'm going to have to incorporate that somewhere in between the Blue Bloods books. That means more good books to read! :) -
I feel strangely unsatisfied. I just finished Misguided Angel and my initial thoughts were that it was disappointing filler. The book doesn’t really have an ending. There is no resolution for any of the characters. Very little happens in the book. The only excitement was in the first section and it was short-lived.
I couldn’t really remember why the main characters were in Europe or why they needed to run away from their captors. Perhaps too much time had passed since I read the fourth book, or maybe it just wasn’t that memorable.
The book is split into parts: One part is Schuyler and Jack’s story in Europe. The second part is about Mimi in New York. A third section introduces a new character Deming Chen. Interspersed in the first section is a flashback to Florence, Italy in 1452. I felt that this division into parts just didn’t work. For example, the whole time I was reading the second section, Schuyler and Jack were missing. The flashbacks did not get tied in until the very end. The ending was extremely rushed.
I understand that there are more books coming in this series. I think I am done with it. -
Reading this the second time taught me that I didn't like this one as much as I had thought. I originally thought that the previous book was my least favorite. However, I was wrong. This is why it's good to re-read series of books.
I liked the first part of the book. I enjoyed seeing Jack and Schuyler's story. Even though it was short. I had actually thought they were in it a lot longer than they were. I still don't like Mimi. I get that she is hurt but seeking such revenge is sad. However, that happens when you are used to having everything you want.
I'm hoping that I still enjoy the rest of the series. I've been wrong about two books so far. So, anything is possible. The good news is that I do remember how everything turns out in the end. (Or so I hope.) -

I can’t believe this myself, I never thought that this series’ll make me crave for more. It is this particular book that pumped all the existing adrenaline in me. I am so into this book right now and I must admit that I’m drooling out for the next book!!! How long do I have to wait for the next one to come?!!!!!!!!!!

Okay back to normal review…
The story was divided into four parts. First part, for Schuyler and Jack. Second, for Mimi Force. Third, introducing Deming Chen, the hired Venator by our beloved Regent, Mimi Force. Lastly, entitled “Forks In The Road”.
Let me elaborate.
I. Schuyler and Jack Escapade
Flashback. We are introduced to another characters. The trio in action, members of the Petruvian Order, Tomasia, Andreas and Giovanni. I first thought they were like Sky, Ollie and Jack, after finishing the book I am not even sure. I think there are parts of these flashbacks that are quite confusing so I’m just gonna read this one again next time (I hope :P)
After the The Van Alen Legacy, we now have knowledge regarding the 7 gates made by Michael and Lucifer with the 7 ruling families guiding each. So, since Leviathan is now free and Michael is missing in action, our couple heroes embark on a journey to find the Gate of Promise. Jack and Sky are now on their way to Italy to search for the hidden gate in order to stop Lucifer and his team of Abominations.
Eventually, they had found out that Father Baldessare, a friend of gramps who holds certain knowledge regarding the gate they seek was already dead and has passed all responsibilities to Ghedi. An impostor Somalian pirate who helped Jack and Sky with their escape from the Countess. Then, they will discover that he is the current gate keeper.
II. Mimi Force, the Regent (loser’s side story)
Loser Mimi is now left behind by the two boys of her life. Kingsley’s with Lucifer while her twin’s busy flirting with the half-vampire. So she decided to make herself busy by accepting the role of a Regent. Acting as head of the Coven while her cycle father’s gone missing. Oh how poor not to have a lovelife when you’re beautiful and sexy right Mimi?
So as the regent she now has all the authority she needed first, to look out for Kingsley and second, to do something about his flirty dear brother.
And look what we got in here, blooming friendship between two unlikely people, Mimi and Ollie! I don’t know what to say!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is EPIC! It’s like Manny Pacquiao being the best bud of Floyd Mayweather! Sh*t well, I confess, I am an avid fan of the boxer okay?! >.< It really means something that Mimi and Ollie are now friends, it is always during dire moments that one commits the most unlikely thing in the world. Oh well, good for the both of them.
Moving on, she misses Kingsley and regrets the decision she made. I do so too, for I would walk even the deepest and dangerous circle of hell just to be with Venator Martin!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Enough of Kingsley, back to Mimi. So now comes the biggest problem of our dear Regent. It was about a video. A video revealing too much violence and terror and spilling truths about Blue Bloods business.
III. Deming Chen, the hot chick from Shanghai, China
MERCY-KILLER, even the Angel of Mercy can kill especially if the situation asks her to.
A venator from China, hired by the Regent since her attempt to save the 1st victim had failed that she resorted to hiring the famous girl who did the Deathwalk. Victoria Taylor, the first victim was killed and now comes another sacrifice and again failed mission for the Chinese chick.
It is during this mission that she got to be close and intimate with Paul, a Duchesne student and the perpetrator behind all the gruesome killings of two Blue Bloods. In due course that Deming learned about the true form of Paul, that he is a Nephilim.
Paul the sly, was a Nephilim, meaning a bastard of a Croatan and a human woman.
IV. Forks In The Road (Effing Cliffhanger)
We got to learn about the Petruvian order, an organization found in early Florence, Italy composed of BBs carrying out police power over the vampire-human populace to maintain peace and order. Specialized in the killing of the damned women carrying the mark of the triglyph especially marked by Lucifer to his women as well as their Nephilim offspring.
So this is an intersecting component of the book among the first, second and third part. A back to normal approach of the author where we can see the contemporary situation the characters were in.
Halfway to success/failure Jack decided to propose to Sky, well that was the most kick-ass move for you Jack Force but the only thing wrong for me is why hadn’t he already faced the consequences of his actions. He should’ve talked to Mimi before their lovey-dovey escapade. He should have talked sense to her before embarking on their journey to look for Catherine of Seine.
To conclude the story we have learned that all things are interconnected; Mari Elena, the Petruvian Order, The Trio (Tomasia and the group), and the sly Paul.
So Kinglsey’s a major character and I think we’ll get to see more of him in the next book. Mimi and Ollie are now in motion to rescue Kinglsey, at the same time as the double twin Venators are on their way to the Middle East while Sky’s going for a trip to Egypt! Yay, hope I can come with them. Sad! The lovely prince’s leaving Sky when things got critically messy.

Question: Is this book dedicated for Jack? It feels like the book’s doing all it can to redeem Jack’s character…
It reminds me of TMI Series, the Nephilim thingy plus the Latin names. And the trio members of the Petruvian Order were like Jem, Will and Tessa.
It also has its similarity with the Vampire Academy series, the feeding is like the Caerimonia. It should not be done casually or else you’ll be treated like a whore (akin to sex in normal perception). The feeding especially by the dhampirs is being considered like an indecent sex. Like a casual sex committed by whores.
Here’s what I expect of the next book, the rescue of Kingsley Drexel Martin, the surrender of Jack Force, the search for the Gate of Promise of Sky, and the venator team going to the Middle East to annihilate Nephilims. -
I thought this one slowed down the pacing of the series and took the focus off of Lucifer. I know we learned about the gates and that the silver bloods may have other help in bringing Lucifer back, it just wasn't as exciting to me. Even though I've hopped aboard the "Juyler" train, their parts were the most boring. It didn't mention much of their relationship and I wanted to see them more in love.
Mimi actually was fun to read and I feel a bit bad for her that she's been thrust into leading the conclave at such a young age. She and Oliver actually form a tentative friendship and play off each other well. I also really like Deming, a new character who's an awesome fighter and pretty good detective. I'm looking forward to seeing more of her soon. -

Faster, Less Detailed Review: Misguided Angel is an intense fifth installment to the Blue Bloods Series, filled with new dilemmas; lots of suspicion; answer-seeking missions; significant legacies; dangerous, abrupt murders; seven demon-proofing gates of Hell; and...the Petruvian Order. Fans will love this severely action-packed fifth book and the blend of old and new characters coming forth, and will find that that Melissa De La Cruz did not disappoint.

As an avid Blue Bloods fan, I was eagerly awaiting the arrival of it's fifth successive novel. The first thing I said when I gazed down at the book in my hands was, "Oh, the cover! I could cry!" It's so, so pretty. I love when angel wings are placed on a cover; I just have this thing for 'em.
Reading the Blue Bloods series has always proven to be an adventure for me. I never know where Melissa De La Cruz is going to take me next! And to me, unpredictability is a good thing. Her plot lines are always intricate, yet somehow they are all braided together, and you can find their shared connection easily. It all goes back to something, some mystery or unanswered question.
Opening up with Jack and Schuyler was perfect! I utterly adore this star-crossed couple. The first chapters display their current relationship, how they are working things through, and how much they still need to work out. And, more importantly (at least for some), the status of Schuyler carrying out the legacy bestowed to her by her grandfather, Lawrence Van Allen. To see their struggles so early in the book grabbed me and pulled me in to the story.
Seeing Mimi and all her selfish, superficial glory was wonderful! I love Mimi, surprisingly. I don't typically like her kind of character. You know, the gorgeous, shallow, blond goddess of society type. But, despite the flaws in her personality, I think she's probably one of the best, one of the most well-developed characters of the story. She has so many layers. She can be cold and mean. Or genuine and kind. Selfish or caring. It all depends with Mimi. It's like rolling di, you never know what digits you're going to get. Then, most unexpected is her ever-growing friendship with Oliver, of all characters! I thought they would forever be at each other's throats, so it was quite funny, for me, to watch that change, watch a bond of friendship be formed, especially considering their circumstances with Jack and Schuyler respectively. (Spoiler Alert: I was so happy when I discovered that there is a possibility that my beloved Kingsley will be coming back soon! *squeals*)
And meeting Deming Chen was a surprise and a pleasure. First off, it was nice to see a new face after tagging along with so many familiar characters. Readers will know virtually nothing about her, as it happened with me. To gradually unravel her character and still not completely get to her core, the core of who she is, felt good when reading about her and what she was there for. *spoilerish* Not to mention the possibility of her twin showing up! I just can't wait!
The mystery of the new, arising problems over-shadowing the Blue Bloods Coven, more particularly in New York was eerie and disturbing. If you've read Melissa's earlier Blue Bloods books, you'll know that she writes, in between chapters, little snippets of the past that tend to relate to what is going on while you're reading (which is awesome). I'm dying to know what it's all leading up to, though I do have a teensy-weensy bit of an idea. By the end of the book, I had been breathless, as though I had just run a two-mile marathon in twenty minutes (except I read this in one sitting of about 3.5 hours, but you get the idea)!
If you're the kind of person who likes a big mystery with a supernatural flair (the whole ex-angels turned blue/silver blooded vampires concept) plus a large mesh of several different relationships (friendship/romantic), then you'll find something to like/love about the Blue Bloods series, including its fifth installment, Misguided Angel.

Misguided Angel is the fifth installment within the Blue Bloods series. Just like the previous books, there's enough in this that kept me entertained. The number of secrets, betrayals, and hints of romance definitely kept the pages flowing. At least for me.
I do think that this could have been a bit better if we got more of Lucifer. Which is probably such a weird thing to admit but I that's how I feel. It was also kind of interesting to see Mimi become more likable. I'd like to thank Oliver for contributing to this feeling as well. Their newly formed friendship was oddly satisfying to watch and I'm excited to see what will happen next on their little adventure.
Speaking of which, what the heck is going on. Jack and Schuyler are going to bond but he's going back to New York. Whereas she's going to Egypt but then so are Mimi and Oliver. It just seems kind of awkward and Jack is most likely going to look stupid for going somewhere Mimi isn't. Unless he shows up at the right moment or whatever.
I guess I will just have to find out in the next book. -

I don't know why I keep reading these books. I guess I keep assuming that each one will be the last, when each one really is just a set up for another sequel. Enough with series already! Not just this one, all of them! I would much rather read an 1,000-page novel than several shorter works. I had forgotten a lot since reading the last Blue Blood novel. There are so many ridiculous aspects of the Blue Blood society to keep track of. I felt lost most of the time. I also felt at times like I was reading a mash-up of Twilight (vampires), The Hunger Games (since when was Schuyler an archer?), and Harry Potter (spells? I don't remember vampires being magic!). The author skipped the designer names this time around and replaced them with pop culture references (Twilight, True Blood, and Glee) which I thought were pretty cheesy. Maybe I should start reading grown-up books? It pains me to admit that I will probably keep reading these when they come out. I have to know how the story ends and this book felt more like one long chapter that created more questions than answers.

This was a filler book. The first half was okay and the second half of the book was much better. Oliver and Mimi working together was the most interesting part of this book and I really enjoyed those parts. Jack and Schulyer’s parts were only ok. The end sets up for Lost in Paradise well though and I am so glad Oliver and Mimi will be working together in that one!
My quick and simple overall: quick and sets up for the next full book well. -

I am glad I kept reading this series, it definitely gets better as it goes. This is a case of first book syndrome to the extreme. Book 5 doesn't even slightly resemble book 1. So if you want to read this series, don't judge it by the first book. It gets so much better later.

So apparently the last time I read this novel, I found it unbearably boring and annoying [previous review below]. However, upon this read through I did not find it as painfully annoying and hard to get through as the previous novels have been. In fact, this was a solid three star book when taking into account that it is very much a Young Adult book of its time (2010). Not perfect by any means, but less annoying than previous novels in the series have been.
As always, I found Schuyler and Jack’s part of this story insanely boring and absolutely no chemistry between them at all. In fact, there was more chemistry between Mimi and Oliver than there is between the couple that is breaking bonds and risking life and death for each other. While they were on the run, I could ignore how dull they both are, but when it is focused on their relationship I can’t help but roll my eyes. Once again, I have seen nothing to explain why these two are in love with each other. While these series suffers from a lot of insta-love, at least with Mimi and Kingsley we saw that relationship progress and the insta-love couple in this story we at least saw them interact on page before this “love” formed. Jack and Schulyer bore me and I have no investment in whether they end up together in the end. The first third of this novel was the most boring part.
While Schuyler was the main female lead in the first couple of books, I feel as if Mimi has taken over that role in this novel. Gone is the vapid socialite that only cares about herself, though she is still selfish, arrogant, and impulsive at times. Instead we are given a vampire that is grieving, angry, and set with the impossible task of leading the Coven when the vampire’s way of life is falling apart. Mimi is downright likable in this novel, which is something I wouldn’t have said at the start of the series. I know that in the previous read through I was obsessed with Oliver, but he isn’t really anything but a walking plot device. Again, he isn’t given enough page time for me to see why I was into him to begin with. I don’t dislike him, but he is just kind of there to help the story progress.
Deming Chen was a new perspective as Bliss is out of this narrative due to having her own spin off series. As we are just getting to know her, I really didn’t have anything to say about her almost nonexistent personality. If she wasn’t thinking about how silly and ridiculous other women are, she was attempting to figure out what was going on with the missing vampires. That being said, as the insta-love portion of this story comes up in her section of the novel, I found myself rolling my eyes a lot. It is truly one of my least favorite troupes.
Again, this series is not raising in my esteem, but I have no idea why I hated this novel so much when I read it the first time. I have seen some reviews complaining that it doesn’t push forward the overall plot of Lucifer’s return forward, but I think it shows that he is building an army and has been for years. It was a fine read for what it was, but not a series I will revisit once I complete it.

Compared to the last novel, this one was pretty flat and at points down right boring. That isn't saying to was bad because I really liked the section about Mimi and Oliver, but I just felt that other than a few things this whole story just went in a major circle with little being resolved. I just felt as if this whole novel was just a set up novel, which is alright if it is entertaining, but this was just...dull.
Schuyler was a bit annoying in this novel because every other line it seemed she was talking about Jack being her life. I get they are madly in love, but shut up! We got it the first thirteen times you said it. Again I would rather be shown this unending devotion than have Schuyler complain about it all the time. I just don't see the love in the Jack and Schuyler relationship. I missed Bliss terribly and though I like Deming I felt as if she was just thrown in because there was no Bliss. I hope there is more of her in later novels, but I want to know what happened to Bliss. However I really am starting to adore Mimi especially because we see her grow and become more likable. Then have her and Oliver become friends made me like her even more and she is quickly becoming my favorite character. I love Oliver, that is all I have to say about him. I adore him.
An alright book, but nothing to get excited about.

this would have to be the fifth book of the blue bloods series.. again it is divided into perspective of 3 girls (Mimi,Schuyler,Deming Chen) the fifth installment of the book contains romance, A LOT of complications and a very rich gothic history...
a lot of things shocked me.. like for the first part (sky's Perspective) i didn't know that Sky is Jack's familiar!!!! OMG.. i know in the 4th book she gave jack some of her blood cause she is half human, half vamp. but i didn't know that they performed the Sacred Kiss but reading sky's perspective was enjoyable lot of very romantic moments and it's really good to see that she and Jack are helping each other out, they have each others back and fighting the bad guys together.. <3 (awwww)
in my mind this what Jack looks like..
come on! the blond hair, the green eyes the very god-like features Alex Pettyfer is my perfect Benjamin Force!
in the second part of the book it's about mimi's perspective , she is assigned as regent since Charles (Michael, Pure of heart ) is missing she is in charge of the whole coven, actually this book is Mimi's book it mostly talks about her yearning for Kingsley, her wrath for Jack (she really wants her dead) and her duty as Regent. well in this book it totally changed the way i look at Mimi she is not a spoiled little vampire, queen bee anymore she has become so much more than that, she became responsible for her actions and taking full responsibility of the whole coven.
It's cool that she befriended Oliver and well... am I smelling a hint of romance between them? well if Kingsley won't be resurrected (i sure hope he does) Oliver and Mimi would make a cute couple.
the third part is about Deming Chen , I believe deming chen was introduced in the 2nd book? in the ball? i really don't remember. anyway deming chen is a new character introduced in the series i really love her power (seeing auras) her perspective for me is a page turner cause she is in charge of the whole case,. i am hoping to see more from her .
well the fifth book pretty much left me hanging! i am really excited to have a copy of the 6th book

I like the Blue Bloods series. The author has created a great group of characters and has invented a totally original and entertaining vampire mythology--not an easy thing to do these days. She writes great action scenes and always manages to infuse just the right amount of romance into her stories--romance that is not overwrought or manufactured.
All of these things still apply to this installment. The author's characters and writing are as masterful as always, but I found myself rather disappointed in the plot and it's structure. At only 265 pages it often has a "bare bones" type feeling that was not present in the earlier books. Blyss is left out of the story completely, leaving me puzzled as to what has happened to her. Schuyler and Jack are in the story for the first 80 pages, then everything flips to Mimi back in New York. We only get back to Schuyler and Jack for a very short time at the end. This gave the story a very unbalanced feel and left me looking for the rest of it. I know the whole point of a series is that you have to wait for the next book, but the author seems to have cheated a bit here and given us just half of a story.
But then it does look like Cruz is trying to expand the storyline by telling more of it from Mimi's perspective and by adding in the new character of Deming. Mimi is quickly becoming a favorite character of mine; as a reader you begin to sympathize with her in this book and learn more about why she is who she it. Deming looks to be a promising character and brings some interesting background to this story.
"Misguided Angel" is consistent with other volumes in that it is outrageous and unpredictable, and demonstrates a high level of drama throughout. Fans will be elated to see their wishes fulfilled in the central love story, yet without spelling out the future too clearly or ruling out possible outcomes.
There are also hints about the different ways in which the larger heaven-and-earth drama might play out, and it's always appealing to read about the blessed angels who are also damned (by heroic choice). One of the best things about these books is that all the characters are unpredictable, and you might find yourself surprised about who you consider to be your favorite characters in the end.

This is the fifth book in the Blue Bloods series by Cruz. There is a novella due out for this series in December 2010 called, Bloody Valentine; the sixth book is going to be titled, Lost in Time, and is planned for an October 2011 release. This was the weakest book in this series by far. The story doesn't progress much and we are only given painfully short glimpses into what is happening to Schuyler and Jack. Many of the major players from previous books are not even mentioned.
The book starts with Jack and Schuyler and we get a brief glimpse of them escaping captivity and taking off to try and find the last gate. We don't spend much time with them before Cruz switches to telling the story from Mimi Force's perspective. Mimi is now leading the Conclave and trying to solve a crime involving an internet video that shows a vampire being burned alive; if she can't figure out where the information is being leaked she is in trouble. The Conclave is threatening to take the vampires back underground. After hearing about this for a while we switch to another perspective, this time from a new character named Deming Chen. Deming is a Venator from Shanghai that is trying to help Mimi solve this case.
Jack and Schuyler don't get much page space and this is disappointing. Blyss is left out of the story completely, leaving me puzzled as to what has happened to her. As with all of Cruz's book this book was well-written and easy to read. I just felt like Cruz is either running out of ideas for this series or confused about where she wants to take the story. This was such a short book and briefly touched on a number of things without really advancing the story. Very much a transition novel.
Overall I have really enjoyed this series, but this book left me somewhat disappointed. I don't feel like much happened, it was kind of boring, and I felt like this was more of a transition book or a book where Cruz was confused on where to take this series. So, it was okay but not great. Hopefully the sixth book is better because if the sixth book is like this book...well then I am not sure I will keep reading this series. -

Anche qui confermo il giudizio di 3 stelle. Non è che non mi è piaciuto, ma poteva essere migliore in fatto di storytelling e organizzazione. Anche in questo libro abbiamo tre POV: Schuyler, Mimi e Deming. Le prime due le conosciamo bene, mentre la terza l'abbiamo incontrata nel secondo volume, durante il ballo dei Quattrocento.
Schuyler e Mimi devono affrontare le conseguenze delle loro scelte ancora una volta. La prima deve fare i conti con la sua scelta di andar via per cercare di salvarsi e salvare tutti, mentre la seconda con quella di restare e cercare di tenere insieme la comunità di Sangue Blu rimasta. Insomma, vogliono entrambe la stessa cosa, solo che ci sono cose che impediscono alle due ragazze di lavorare insieme. Ed ecco che entra in scena Deming. La ragazza è di Shanghai, ed è una Venator (i detective dei Sangue Blu). Mimi la vuole per aiutarla a scoprire cosa sta accadendo, visto che non solo deve fare i conti con tradimenti vari, ma anche con nuove sparizioni e misteri.
Il libro era diviso in tre parti più una quarta con funzione di epilogo, e ogni parte era solo dal punto di vista di una delle tre ragazze. Non ho amato questa divisione, per niente. Vediamo ognuna di loro cosa vede dal suo punto di vista come sempre, ma in un blocco unico. Avrebbe avuto più effetto fare come i libri precedenti, cioè alternare i capitoli tra i tre POV delle protagoniste, per creare più suspense. Invece così il lettore già sa in parte dove si vuole andare a parare, ed è stato noioso per certi versi.

I've read this book in a day and half. It was a quick read because the story was simple, yet intricate. It bored me that it was divided in three parts and three epilogues at the end, but I realized it made things clearer after I finished. Things are slowly being revealed and everything is linked. The new character from the Chinese Coven, Deming, is likeable. I'd rather have her than Bliss. Hopefully she won't become boring like her. And Jack and Schuyler are apart once again, mmmh. But at least they have their sort of link to each other. Loved their last scene. Can't wait to read about it in the next side stories book.
