plot
Joleen, a cougar, is on the prowl for a man, but she ends up discovering that her real need is God.
In the beginning, Joleen is not a Christian, but God slowly draws her and her family to him, It's a wild ride with lots of excitement,
Please note, this is an inspirational book, but the story begins with Joleen in an awful predicament and living without God.
As the book progresses, you see God working in Joleen and her daughters' lives, This book is about a single mom Jolene who for all intents and purposes is a "cougar", She loves dating younger men and she doesn't limit herself to one man either, That's what gets her in trouble, especially when her five grown daughters start to date the same men their mother has dated!
The story gets even more complicated when Jolene's n'erdowell, exhusband comes into her life again threatening trouble.
Jolene has a lot more secrets in her past, secrets that if exposed will threaten to destroy her relationship with her daughters.
I enjoyed the pace of the book and at first I thought that the book would read as a comedy, however the storyline by the middle of the book was anything but funny.
The main character, Jolene, who I thought at first as a loveable "desperate housewife", was more a pathetic individual with secrets and such a low selfesteem that she relied on many men's attention to bolster her fragile ego.
Each of her daughters were also affected by their mother's choices as they were growing up, the oldest an alcoholic, another a workoholic, and the youngest threatening to make the same choices in life as her mother.
This is a book that shows how fractured an individual can become due to poor choices made in life, and how only God's saving grace can heal a wounded heart.
A host of issues resurface when Joleen Allens exhusband Haroldnewly out of prisonsues her for a bundle of money, Does he even have a case What besides the money is his motive Joleen suspects a main one is to turn their five daughters against her.
Longheld secrets of Joleens own combine with deeply rooted insecurities to drive her to seek security and affirmation in relationships.
A slew of young men find this attractive, middleaged woman an interesting challenge, In My Mother the ManEater, Tracy Krauss has
created a complex and riveting tale involving Joleen, her many suitors, and her five daughters.
Family loyalty, dealing constructively with past and present life issues, and the value of honesty are themes of the book.
They are combined with the possibility of heart change and life transformation through faith in Christ,
Krausss writing style is crisp, Her characters conversations feel realistic, are often witty, and do a good job of revealing personality and character, Plot action is nonstop. Krausss experience with play writing shines through in several episodes that involve characters interacting in ways that reminded me of Shakespeares comedies.
The closetomyhome Vancouver setting was also fun to experience in a novel,
I would categorize this book as edgy Christian fiction, Some of the early scenes made me uncomfortable as they followed the characters in their pursuits of very human appetites and lusts.
That changes by the end so you may want to persist if, like me, youre tempted to put the book down after reading only the first few chapters.
Joleen Allen loves men. Now if she could only keep one of them interested! Lately, every man she dates falls for one of her five daughters.
Shes not a rich womanjust scraping by from payday to payday at her job selling lingerie in a department store.
Yet her exhusband shows up, fresh out of prison, determined to ruin her life, her reputation, and any monetary stability shes managed to achieve.
Scary thing is, this guys not just bluster, Hell stop at absolutely nothing to get what he came for,
Its a mostly chaotic, completely unconventional family with characters and situations just crazy enough to be halfway believable, and to keep the reader hanging in there to see what happens.
My take on My Mother the Maneater:
Wow! Tracy Krauss definitely knows how to create a realistic “world.
”
The Allen women harbor enough longheld secrets, lofty dreams, bitterness, disappointment, and a few unexpected moments of genuine affection to make them dysfunctional often comically, but other times totally tear worthy and to keep the reader hooked.
I must confess to becoming a little muddled at times, trying to mentally juggle six women, all with their own separate little subplots, and all having names starting with “J.
” I had to backtrack a few times to keep the who with the what,
Despite that bit of confusion, My Mother the Maneater is a wellwritten book, Krauss creates fully developed, believably flawed characters and constant action to keep the pages turning, The messages of forgiveness, redemption, grace and hope are well integrated into the plot, and deftly delivered without being even a little preachy.
In fact, given the cougarbased storyline, its a tremendous achievement for the author to have fit this book into the inspirational genre.
This book is proof that inspirational fiction can be gripping without crossing the line to risqué,
Readers who enjoy their Christian fiction with a thick slice of reality and a large cast of characters will love My Mother the ManEater.
I will be back next weekend to write a review! What a story!
I really wanted to give, author Tracy Krauss a five star review on her book but Im finding that publishing companies are lacking in the editing department.
On the upside of this book, I would like to say that I thoroughly enjoyed the story, There were six women noted in this book and all of their names started with the letter “J”, Each character had a unique and captivating personality, Tracy did an excellent job of staying one step ahead of the reader with a surprise at every turn of the page.
Author Tracy Krauss knows how to captivate her reader and I look forward to reading her next novel, This was a page turner! It kept me up way too late at night, It had a little bit of everything, family drama, fashion, addiction, mystery, intrigue and romance, The best thing about this book was the subtle clarity of the message.
It is a story of redemption with Jesus as the answer for all of us in our brokeness, Whats a girl to do Joleen Allen is on the hunt, For a man, that is, Unfortunately, every time the mother of five meets a prospect, he falls for one of her daughters instead!
Meanwhile, her exhusband, Harold, is back in the picture after a stint in prison, and hes looking for revenge.
Hell do anything to see Joleens reputation and her relationship with their children ruined, Harold has devised an elaborate plan to slander Joleen and ruin her financially, and will stop at nothing even murder to see it through.
At fortyfour, Joleen has seen a thing or two, She became a mother at sixteen, and her five highly independent children are now grown, Jasmine is a successful ad executive, but has a drinking problem, Jill is a tough cop, while middle child Jennifer surprises them all with her tenacity, Jinger is a selfcentered glamour girl, and the baby of the family, Jade, is utterly spoiled,
All the interesting men they meet get tossed around by this pack of barracudas, Adding to the mix are some drug deals, a kidnapping, insurance fraud, and secrets from the past, making life very complicated, indeed.
With grit, humor, action, intrigue and romance, My Mother the ManEater is a redemptive story about a woman whose search for meaning in life sends her straight into.
. . the arms of God.

And your husband didnt mind” William questioned, “It was his idea to begin with,” Joleen answered back, somewhat defensive, “And I didnt take everything off, I think he took some kind of sick pleasure in the fact that other men wanted me, but I was his, ” “And you didnt object to that” William asked candidly, “I had no choice in the matter,” Joleen shrugged, “What do you mean” “OBrighton was also our landlord, He had some very persuasive techniques for getting people to pay money that they owed him, ” “Sounds like a very unsavory character,” William noted, “And what about after Harold went to prison You continued working for OBrighton” “Harold had made a lot of enemies, I needed the extra cash flow to keep my family safe, ”
Joleen Allen isyears old and hasdaughters, Jennifer is her quiet one, She still lives at home, works for a publishing house and enjoys quiet evenings with a good book, Jill is a police officer who has designated herself as the family protector, Jinger lives at home and is a designer waiting on the right person to come along and take her to the top of the clothing world.

She loves them dearly but they all seem to clash when together, As for Joleen, she loves men, Young men. But she has finally come to the conclusion that something is missing in her life, She needs to find a man who she just might be able to stick with and settle down some, She has her eye on Sam in the delivery bay where she works and he seems to have an eye for her.
So when he finally asks her out, she accepts, But she also likes the instructor from her self defense class and the teacher from her English lit class and then there was the guy who came in to talk her methods of selling lingerie and oh how can she ever pass up the motorcycle jumper she met at the race track.
She can handle it. She will just have to juggle her time,
As you can see, this is one mixed up family, As things heat up with arguments between the girls and Joleen trying to shuffle her boyfriends, in walks Joleens exhusband, He has served his time in prison and is bent on destroying the lives of not just Joleen but also the lives of the girls.
To do this he has decided to take Joleen to court stating that the divorce and her infidelity ended with him requiring psychiatric care.
I dont know where to start with my recommendations for My Mother The Man Eater, We all have skeletons in our family closets, somewhere, Most of us handle them by keeping the door locked, hoping no one finds the key, But what happens if those secrets of the past do get out Whether we are the one hiding something or we find that someone we love has been hiding secrets from us, how do we handle it Author Tracy Krauss has taken a family whos past becomes exposed.
Piece by piece the family is torn apart and separated, But, as they all slowly start realizing, there is one being and feeling that can bring it all back together, The being is God and the feeling is Love,
My Mother The Man Eater is a book that I recommend to everyone, . man, woman, father, mother, grandparent, son, daughter, The message in this book is loud and clear and I feel it has a message for everyone, no matter who you are.
I simply loved this book,
