Find Wondrous Depth: Preaching The Old Testament Presented By Ellen F. Davis Distributed As Interactive EBook

poignant insights down to earth, reality based yet full of the mystery of God's love! I'm reading it slowly and taking notes.
Joan Tench Davis has certainly done her homework for this book, with a wealth of research at her disposal.
As a primer for tackling difficult texts on the Old Testament, it sufficesas long as its part of a collection.
From a Pastoral or Homiletic point of view, Davis' assertions come out weak and not well thought out, Her investigation of the text starts out strong, and generally ends with a soft, unassuming, Presbyterian whimper, Dr. Davis is a theological scholar beyond compare, If only for her sermon on Psalm, this book would be a worthwhile purchase, It's true Dr. Davis has done the work, that she has the ability to instruct so clearly one may not realize that she is standing back and letting us think how easy it was.
We might never come on this style of teaching again, Through her artful approach to this practical book, Ellen F, Davis is able to do exactly what she set out to do, With each stroke of her pen she dismantles the walls between exegesis and homiletics to reveal a diverse palette for preachers for proclamation.
Rather than seeming to harp on “the old days were better” mantra, she uses the past to offer a brilliant method for using all the tools available to share the Gospel of Jesus.
This work has gone beyond an intriguing concept to transforming my own preconceived ideas and opening up a whole new expanse of options for my future teaching.
Have not yet finished it but seems a bit dry, may get into it later, it was required reading for a class,

Ellen Davis knows and clearly loves her Old Testament, As a pastor, I was delighted tby her thoughts and images as she unpacked the material, I'd recommend this book and any others she writes on the subject, Ellen Davis is concerned by what she calls a shallow reading of Scripture a reading of what we think we already know instead of an attempt to dig deeper for new insights and revelations.
Wondrous Depth is a collection of essays in which Davis argues for a engaged reading of Scripture that opens the reader up to new knowledge and understanding.
Davis also demonstrates that preaching and biblical interpretation are essentially related to one another in that it is essential for preachers to engage in thorough reading and interpretation of Scripture from the pulpit and to encourage their congregations to read the Bible with depth and sensitivity as well.
