what I needed The book I needed as a newbie metalsmith, Other books think they are starting at the beginning, but they are not, It's not assumed that you know much of anything, so it perfectly suited for me,
The projects are actually something you would want to make, unlike some of the odd and ugly projects in many of these books.
I plan to use this a lot while I'm working on metal, perfect for this idiotLOL Excellent book, Recommended. Admittedly I didn't expect much for a couple bucks book how to for dummiesthat being said this review isn't based on low expectations, it's based on its value to any jewelry artist noob to salty dogsI am somewhere in between I absorb as much information as I can from any source I can and this book absolutely offers a wealth of information.
There is plenty for the new artist, I think it is a solid book, a few small notes to the new artist Don't use this as your only source, use this as one of many.
She touches on enamel and admits there are huge sources of info out there but missed some details in what she did say such as Iron is able to be enameled and when she addresses patina she says brass must be copper plated, perhaps this is true of some patinas , it's impossible to know every one out there for sure hehe.
. but as my primary metals are brass and copper I can offer with certainty the information that yes, it can be patina without plating.
I do chemical patina of several types including los, Her information on how to copper plate the brass was still new to me and certainly something I will try!!
Tool info where to spend your first, how to use, how to store.
How to do a project many actually from beginning, . pick your metal, cut, anneal, pickle, clean To working it , connecting it, etching, patina, setting and the end, sealing, maintaining the piece for years to come.
It was an excellent read, I think for the price every artist should have this in their reference resources, It's worth far.
Also for the new artist, remember that we are highly devoted to our tools, methods, processes and the saltier you get the passionate I think lolso when you read any manual remember this artist took their path to get to writing this.
Every artist has a different path, While there are plenty of absolutes in art eye protection, caring for tools, safety etc there are a whole slew of "right way for you" things.
The best basic tools for you, the best methods, Read every book you can get your hand on that has mostly good reviews, one on here was so bad it was dangerous for new artists, were with chemical amounts! So read reviews for sure eek.
Watch artists, talk to them if you can, Some of us are in places where it's challenging so we need to rely to online and books, YouTube etc, Read everything. I spend as !much time reading as creating I think lol,
If you can't be working on jewelry be reading about it, if you can't read listen, can listen think, . sketch. . I'm happy to share a few book titles if anyone is interested that I think are must have, A patina Bible, wireworking wows, chains, findingsbetter get kindle unlimited if you don't have it lol! I try to only buy the ones I refer back to oftenthis is absolutely one of them.
Great find
Sorry for the long review but often I felt overwhelmed by which book to start with and in the beginning assumed everything in these books were the right way or always correct.
If I can save one newer artist from feeling that way for one book, one moment, then the time this took to write was so worth it.

Mahalo artistshappy creating I was concerned about ordering this book since it seems to address beginners and I'm not a beginner.
I'm quite advance. Yet, when I received it I was surprised at the tips, I think a book is successful if I can take awaytips and learn at leastorthings in techniques, This book surpassed my measurement, This is one of the best books of metalworking I've purchased to date, The information is well presented and useful!!! There was one section of missing information a reference to how to make a sanding stick in one chapter that actually was missing from the text.
Other then that, it was perfect!!! I would buy this book again and will definitely recommend it to others, Thank you. This is a gift for my granddaughter, This is a pretty comprehensive book and it explains do's and don'ts really well, Very safety conscious and reminds you to don safety gear with the different processes, I really liked this book but, and there is nearly always a but with books, some of the explanations are a bit skimpy and not always clear.
The pictures are not kept with the relevant text and they are too small when used with a Kindle so it was hard to see what was meant at times.
It's a nuisance to try and increase the size in the Kindle if you want to blow up the pictures to see them better.

I was not that keen on the projects and would only be inclined to try out three, possibly four with some modifications, of these pieces as the others are not to my dainty preferences in jewellery.
Younger people may well like the artisan style pieces so there is something for everyone,

Overall, a book that will make a good reference, especially the soldering section, which had some excellent instructions for keeping things together.
Happy to recommend this book to anyone starting out making metal jewellery, It should be noted that USA terminology is used and wire is given in gauge and not mm would have been helpful to put the mm in brackets alongside the gauge number but it is well written and free from any glaring errors.
