I think Eli nails perfectly the trauma and the unbearable sense of guilt the survivors deal with, I also liked that she keeps nebulous the perpetrators' rationale for the crime, Perhaps if less publicity was given to those who carry out such unimaginably evil deeds were allowed to fester in anonymous ignominy, there'd be less chance of copycat crimes.
Who knows All I know is that this book is powerful and it carries a deeper message about living each day to its fullest as you never know what lies ahead.
This book was hard to read sometimes but so well written and it is a must read!I really loved it! I took a deep breath before diving into Boy Shattered, knowing it was going to be a difficult read due to the subject matter, but Eli Easton handled it beautifully.
What a sensitive, heart wrenching story this turned out to be and oh so sweet too, The two main characters, Landon and Brian, are both believable, delightful boys well constructed with insightful personalities, I loved both of them, but Landon came out slightly ahead for me, I suppose, as a mother myself, I would have been so proud of him for the way he conducted himself throughout his ordeal and for fighting so hard afterwards, for what he believed in.
Both boys attend high school they refer to as The Wall, One very normal, boring, school day, their lives are completely shattered when two masked gun men spray bullets throughout the campus in a seemingly cruel and devastating attack.
Many of their school friends are left for dead, Both Landon and Brian, who werent friends before, find themselves in the cafeteria the heart of the killing spree, Brian has been shot and it is left to Landon to save him, and thus we see the start of a truly beautiful friendship, Landon is out and proud, whereas Brian, who is the star quarterback, has been struggling with his sexuality for years, but afraid to admit to his true feelings.
This is in part due to his parents, especially his Dad, who hold extremely right wing views, This aspect of the story broke my heart, I couldnt imagine not being there for my kids for whatever they needed and simply cannot comprehend how parents can put their opinions over the well being of their children.
Brian survives his injuries but suffers terribly with PTSD, On his return to school, it appears that Brian is the only person he can relate to and keep him sane, and so they begin to spend all their time together.
Inevitably, their attraction for one another builds, and their friendship soon turns into a romance, What makes this book utterly compelling, is the many different storylines that mix together to create a truly great read, There is Brian and Landons friends to lovers and how Brian has to cope with this at home and school and the inevitable fall out from discovery, There is much angst in following Brians obsessive need to discover the identity of the shooters, There is an elation to witnessing Landons growing popularity as a solidarity fighter and a campaigner against the gun laws in America, All of this while they still have to graduate and heal, The story was brilliantly thought out and fantastically written, It was a real page turner with many highs and lows, but ultimately, a testament to the triumph of good over evil, A terrible tragedy, sadly based on too many real life incidents, but culminating in much hope for the future, I would highly recommend this book and would like to thank the author for being brave enough to write about this truly heart breaking and often repeated, atrocity.
Brian
Youll make it out of here, Brian, I swear.
I had everythingschool quarterback, popular with girls, and my dad was proud of me, I told myself it didnt matter no one knew the real me, And then I nearly died, Landon saved my life. Hes the bravest guy I know, He came out a few years ago, proud and fierce, and he ran into gunfire to help others, Me, Im a mess. Cant even stand to be in a room with the curtains open, But heres the thing about losing it all: You get a chance to start over and be someone new, Only how can I move on when the two shooters who attacked our school were never caught And why do I feel like Im still in the crosshairs
Landon
Will you kiss me
When I came across Brian Marshall, the hottest guy in school, dying on the cafeteria floor, I did what anyone would do.
I tried to save him, His request surprised me, but I figured he needed comfort, so I kissed him on the forehead, When he survived and came back to school, he was broken in body and mind, He still needed me, and soon we were unlikely besties, But what I saw at school that day woke me up, I want to demand action on gun control, lead protests, raise my fist, Ill tear the world down if I have to, And if I can get the man of my dreams and save the world at the same time Ill take it, Only I didnt understand that the horror at Jefferson Waller High wasnt over,
I hesitated to read this but am so glad I did, heart wrenching and touching, Brianwho "has it all" mentally bullied by his father too frightened to be who he really is and Landon "everyone's" friend confident and comfortable and gay, Brain has always admired Landon's ability to be who he is.
After a school shooting where Brian is among the injured and at deaths door it is Landon that save his life, all Brian asks for is a kiss, not because ehe is dying but he has always held a torch for Landonthis is the start of a beautiful story of self discovery, strengths, weakness, and how much a terrible incident PTSD can affect an every day life, scared to be in crowds, scared to be by a window, suspicious of everyone, how do you deal with it.
well written, some "bad"people are better than you think and some "good " people are worse than you think!!!!! What a great book about tragedy, overcoming odds, love and community, finding happily ever after in the face of adversity and the need for the world to truly see that such pointless heartbreak should and could be removed if everyone who could, all voted to put "people" and our children first.
We have the power to change big things, Loved this book. It is not a easy read, It's heartbreaking, sad and then hopeful, Both guys are great and great together, The ending is a bit too fast and easy for me, This story has a dark and disturbing subject matter but a very positive and upbeat ending which I really liked,,rounded up. I think the entire thing was handled very sensitively by Eli and as she says, she didn't make any political statementsalthough they are obviously implied by the very nature of the story.
I however willI'm not American, and I think most sensible Americans are aware that a vast number of countries strongly disagree with and are amazed by their antiquated gun laws.
Personal opinion follows Yes, with my

mum's hat on it was an extremely tough read, but if you live in a country such as the US where gun violence in school seems to be a depressing and most worryingly to me acceptable norm because of the right most so called red blooded American men have to bear arms even if the person they're shooting at doesn't seem to have a gun.
Some US States are nothing if not selective in their judgements, what can be done about it unless some archaic gun laws and the actual Constitution itself are radically changed How much longer will the gun lobby and its supporters in the US cling onto outdated legislationSurely a law which was applicable and perhaps relevant inA well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed” is no longer right and appropriate for thest century Jesus Christ people, we're talking about something that's nearlyyears old.
the US imagines itself to be at the forefront of every technological advance known to man, and yet still hides behind a law that is fundamentally wrong and even shameful in this day and ageNo wonder the kids of today seem to have little to no respect for political law makers and government, they feel they are being let down left, right and centre by the older generations.
Having been, at various times and under different names, a ministers daughter, a computer programmer, a game designer, the author of paranormal mysteries, a fan fiction writer, an organic farmer and a profound sleeper, Eli is happily embarking on yet another incarnation as a m/m romance author.
As an avid reader of such, she is tickled pink when an author manages to combine literary merit, vast stores of humor, melting hotness and eye dabbing sweetness into one story.
She promises to strive to achieve most of that most of the time, She currently lives on a farm in Pennsylvania with her husband, three bulldogs, three cows and six chickens, All of them except for the husband are female, hence explaining the naked men that have taken up residence in her latest fiction writing,
