However, in those times of turmoil and worry, there was a comfort that soothed the mind, and acted as a quiet balm: action movies.
Video shops were bursting at the seams with rampant gunfire, sex, drugs, rock, roll, cars on fire, people on fire, guns, bombs, and people dressed in army fatigues (and that was just the staff). Heroes were born shrouded in fire and violent revenge, they were not only armed with guns, but also red hot quips, that served as a muscly arm around the shoulder, and a wink that everything was going to be okay.
So thank you Arnold, Sylvester, Sigourney, Bruce, Eddie, Charles, Patrick, Mel, Chuck and everyone else that made it happen. You saved the world, in your own inimitable way.
Join John Rain, the author of the critically acclaimed Thunderbook: The World of Bond According to Smersh Pod, as he examines a choice selection of the greatest action movies from the decade when the explosion was king.
Explodobook: The World of 80s Action Movies According to Smersh Pod Reviews

This splendid spin off from the very funny SMERSH POD podcast is an utter joy for anyone who has even the tiniest bit of love for 80s action movies, and especially for those of us who were well not quite the right age to be watching 18 rated films back then.

A great read for action movie fans that will leave you giggling like a loon. A fantastic follow up to the authours previous book about James Bond titled Thunderbook (now reprinted in paperback with the two latest movies added). S seriously fun look at 80s action flick we

This was a Christmas present for my son.I was really pleased with the product when it arrived. The book arrived very promptly.

The best thing about this book is the cover. This is basically just somebody inserting jokes into each films synopsis. I couldn't even get through the first chapter before I lost interest. Genuinely dull. So, so dull.
-
I probably smirked once or twice every other page, which is good for a book of this variety, but the writing is just so poor, I can't honestly recommend it. There are spelling and grammar mistakes everywhere, and every segment is basically John Rain, giving a

The amazing cover of this book does not match the poor results of the writing. As other reviews point out, it's extended synopses of films with snarky "zany" jokes and witticisms thrown in. Could have been so much from a personal viewpoint.

John Rain does it again. Like his previous (and marvellous book for fans of the James Bond series, Thunderbook) this is a love letter to the cheesy and sometimes weird and wonderful world of 80s action films. The golden era of action films. His hilarious and loving look at
