I'm turning 60 this December and I finally have learned how to feed myself thanks to Petronella's book. The Human Being Diet taught me how to eat a healthy diet that keeps me satisfied, feeling fantastic, sleeping better and allows for a weekly treat meal when I can eat anything. She teaches the science behind a healthy metabolism and focuses on a 2 week program reset followed by a lifetime program. It works and it is simple and sustainable. This book is about living a full life with a healthy relationship to food. I'm a 59 year old woman who slowly put on weight over the past 25+years. My weight gain was gradual, a pound or two a year, but a pound or two a year for 25 years and I went from 125 pounds to 165 pounds. I eat healthily, mostly organic, low carb, high protein, low sugar, little alcohol. I lift weights 4 times a week, do pilates 5 times a week, cycle or swim 5 times a week. I'm in excellent shape except for the extra weight. I've lost 25 pounds since January, 2020 and the weight is still coming off. I feel and look so much better. Thank you, Petronella!

I bought this book after seeing a Facebook group of supportive people. I have done Keto for 10 years and the scale just yo yod and my cholesterol was insane. Never did balance out. I bought the Human Being Diet and started the 3 month program in January 30. I lost 30 pounds. I have not been this thin since my 30's. I'm 55 now. I literally get compliments daily and changed my life! Even when I indulge on vacation, I just get right back on the plans and in three days I'm back down to my thin weight. Petronella supports you on Instagram and is genuinely concerned about the health of her followers. People! Buy this book! If you follow this plan. I promise you will feel so much better and the side effect is that you will drop tons of weight. I don't know anyone that hasn't. The best health book you will ever buy! Cheers!

At 63 I was struggling to lose the midsection weight that I had gained (15 lbs) over the past 3 years. On a whimsey I was compelled to try The Human Being Diet". I just completed phase 2; 2 week detox and am pleased beyond belief to report having lost 5 lbs, 5" off my waist and another inch from both my bust and hips. I feel wonderful and to top it off my skin is glowing!

Really liked the "light" explanation of "hard" science behind the rules. This is not an easy silver bullet. It takes a lot of discipline and persistence. But if her theories are right, I believe it has done a reset for me.

As a registered nurse I thought I was knowledgeable about hormones, nutrition and human biology! But I have had an education in the last six weeks. I have spent the best part of 20 years following weight watchers, and noticed recently that it had stopped working for me. Probably because i could still make food choices that weren’t particularly good for my body, whilst remaining within my allowance. When I was young this strategy worked. It peri menopause and it no longer served me.
I had spent the last twenty years on fat free or low fat versions of foods I loved. Imagine my delight when I can now enjoy full fat Greek yoghurt, coconut yoghurt, olive oil and avocados! I am liberated from sugar. I am no longer scratching around the kitchen wondering what I can snack on next. The plan is very simple to follow. It is very doable as Petronella says herself. The weight loss rewards come quickly, and the sleep you experience is so deep that you feel refreshed and energised every morning. I never knew how good stable blood sugAr levels could feel. The benefits are far reaching, I’ve lost 21 pounds in 6 weeks, my skin is glowing, my confidence is boosted, I’m told I look radiant again. I feel vibrant, and youthful again. Libido has returned. PMT has vanished. I’m no longer craving sugar fixes. I’m no longer hungry. I no longer want to drink alcohol as a pick me up. My body is just balanced, and doing what it should be doing processing whole nutritious unprocessed foods. I think I’m now in with a chance of living to 98 like my granny did! This book contains up to the minute and sensible nutritional science information which mentally prepares you for the eating regime prescribed in the second half. It’s written in a personable and relatable fashion. The initial 16 day diet works, even if the food feels a little boring towards the end (you do start fantasizing about the treat meal at the end). I feel so much healthier in myself, I have energy, and lost 2kgs in first week. Am 13 days in and yet to do second weigh in but can feel the fat literally melting off me. If you're over 40yrs old it’s worth consulting either Petronella or a qualified nutritionist to get blood tests to check current health status and any nutrition levels/deficiencies so she/they can reccommend any additional supplements / probiotics to ensure maximum vitamin/mineral absorption during the diet.
I think this diet has/will revolutionise my eating, health and hormone balance going forward. So glad to have found this book..and Petronella!
UPDATE: After 3 months and my 3rd weigh in with Petronella I had lost 10kgs an immense surprise to me given I was only following the book and not consulting her directly. It really is a fantastic and generally easy to manage the eating regime. My metabolic age has gone from 41 to 35!
UPDATE 2: After 6months I felt some bad habits were slipping back in and that i needed another kick start so along with a fellow devotee we embarked on the 16 day cleanse again. I lost the final 3kgs I needed within the first 7 days. I would add doing it the second time was much easier much less angst knowing what to expect and what to do.
Three months on, I can mix things up a bit sometimes while mainly adhering to main principles and am able to maintain the same weight. I did a weigh with P today and my metabolism has further improved which explains the tolerance for any occasional deviation. This regime is a game changer. #takebackcontrol -
I have to admit being biased – but only because I tried out Petronella’s diet four months back as my own ‘scientific investigation’ into what I knew she was writing. As a result The Human Being Diet is the new normal for me.
There is so much wisdom here based on what Petronella has seen working in her clinic. Check out the contents (including all the research articles.) It’s easy to read. Humorous. Gentle. Clear. A way of eating for digestive problems, insomnia PMT/PMS, PCOS, skin problems, headaches, type 2 diabetes, middle aged spread, as well as obesity.
Petronella helps us understand: ghrelin the hunger hormone; why an apple a day may keep the doctor away; the necessity of a weekly treat meal and why a little poison is good for us; why it’s important to sleep in the dark; why sugar leaves us exhausted; and why diversity of food is key to a healthy gut. Check out ‘sunshine melts fat’, and the benefits of saunas and cold swimming too.
For me it sorted out a serious colitis problem almost overnight and I lost weight (although that wasn’t the aim), as did my partner who did it with me as moral support. We’ve kept that weight off too even though we don’t follow the diet strictly any. Our metabolisms seem to know what they’re doing. Best of all I understand how to be kind to my body and my immune system as it deals with unavoidable stress – to quote Petronella: ‘psychological (traffic wardens/mortgages/deadlines) or physiological (extreme exercise/trauma).’ It’s a diet for Human Beings NOW. -
This is meant as constructive feedback. I found the book easy to read and clear. It made a lot of sense too, so I decided to give it a try. At 5'4" and 9 stone 4 lbs I wasn't particularly looking for weight loss (though a few pounds off is always welcome) I was hoping for health benefits such as increased energy, reduced inflammation, better sleep, etc. I managed to reach day 5, at which point I almost felt ill. I was exhausted, emotional, irritable, and unable to focus on anything but the next meal. Worst of all I felt and bone chillingly cold, and by the end of the afternoon of day 5, I had to take to my bed with a hot water bottle. My experience was that Phase 1, the 2 day vegetable fast, was hard but manageable. Phase 2 was unrelentingly difficult and there was no way I could have lasted 14 days. I'm a determined person and when I put my mind to something I usually see it through to the end, but Imagine severely restricting the calorie intake of each of your meals, fasting for 5 hours in between, without even a cup of black tea or coffee to see you though, and doing that for 14 days (after having fasted for 2 days). It was just impossible for me. I've read the other success stories and I can only conclude that the difference between success and failure is whether you are a meat eater or a vegetarian. I assume meat, fish, and chicken is filling than eggs, beans, and tofu and also contain fat, which makes the diet sustainable. I'm convinced about this way of eating but need someone to write a good low carb vegetarian diet book with lots of recipe ideas. If you are a vegetarian or vegan I'd say to approach this diet with caution.

Where do i start
This book is for everyone, It essentially gives you the tools to a new way of life that incorporates a healthy balanced diet that will reset your body to work efficiently. You will see improvements in your digestions, sleeping patterns, skin and also lose weight.
Petronalla has done a fantastic job in creating a beautifully written and extremely informative book. it is simple to follow, has an abundance of external resource information and written with a caring personal tone.
I am currently in Phase 3 of the programme and can already see this is a new way of life, that I will permanently incorporate. I have always been the type of person that would love a fad diet, yo yo up and down in my weight whilst getting frustrated, hungry and unsure of what to do next. This book really does lay out a very clear and simple path of how to nurture and look after your body whilst achieving results. I am no longer worrying about what I should be eating and when, it really is so simple to follow.
As for results on day 17 i had lost 11.5lbs. I am sleeping better, my skin is looking super clear and best of all i'm not hungry. This book is for anyone who would like to make positive changes to their body. It's not only about weight loss but about treating you body in a kindly manner, which in turn will bring beneficial changes to how you look and feel.
