    日本人にはなじみのない、テキサス中部のアラモ砦。1836年3月、アラモ修道院跡にアメリカ人民兵が立てこもり、押し寄せるメキシコ軍に対抗して最後まで戦い、男性183人全員が死亡しました。これをきっかけにアメリカとメキシコの戦争が本格化、2国間の領土紛争の末、最終的にリオグランデ川が国境となったのです。個性豊かな民兵達の中、William Travis とDavid Crockettについてページが割かれているのは、David Crockettがアメリカ人に今も人気があるため（ディズ二‐のキャラクターにもなって）。頭脳派Travisと肉体派Crockett、生きている間も人望があったのは圧倒的にCrockett。Travisは「ああいう大人になってはいけませんよ」という書かれ方になり、読み物として脚色がされています。スペイン語を小学校で教わるアメリカの子供達、アラモ砦は知っておくべき戦場跡なのでしょう。

    It had action and has a lot of information that I wanted to hear.I love how this book doesn’t show preference between Mexicans and Americans.I found this book very fun and informative.

    I love these books for quick information about the subject matter, great for all ages, perfect for school projects, tutoring and homeschool or just the history buff! Enough information is contained to satisfy the reader while also encouraging them to go further research on the subject matter! I purchase them often for elementary, middle high school age! Well worth it!

    Excellent book to read before visiting the Alamo. Was perfect as a family read aloud for my 5, 9 and 11 year old before our vacation. I learned a lot, too! Kids were excited to visit after learning its history. Provides just the right amount of detail to give a wonderful overview without losing the kids’ attention. Easy read with just 9 chapters finished in less than a week. Even my 5 year old followed along well and was repeating things from the book on our trip. You will understand why every souvenir shop in San Antonio has a “Come and Take It” flag after reading this book.
