The book was helpful to me in dealing with monocular vision. There are some items I knew already but overall I did learn some new things that I have not considered.

At the age of 57 in the space of 2 minutues I lost the sight in my right eye due to a vascular event. This book was recommended to me and I read it about 10 days later. As I am a physician most of the concepts were not new to me but they are well laid out and there is no

This book has helped than any of the physicians I encountered after an acute loss of vision in my dominant eye. The insights the pilot who wrote this demonstrated have helped me cope with the devastating loss. No one mentioned the profound depression one experiences

This book is absolutely fantastic! My wife recently lost an eye following an operation. Other than a brief paper on the RNIB web site I was surprised to find that there is no support for anyone losing an eye, and I cannot over emphasise the trauma, fear, and difficulty of going from 3D vision to monocular vision in an instant. The first time she put down a glass she almost put it through the table and it shattered because she could no longer gauge distance. Crossing the road anywhere near a corner can be very difficult and something as simple as walking through crowds on a busy station, or in a shopping mall can be terrifying. People approaching on her blind side cannot be seen until the last second when they come into view and inevitably embarrassing collisions occur. She walks into door frames because she cannot gauge them. This book is written by a pilot who lost an eye in an accident and details exactly the problems she faces daily. The garden has become a very dangerous place, not to be tackled without safety glasses. The book is full of hints and tips and my wife goes back to it over and over again. It has helped to restore her confidence; when crossing the road we always lookout for 'Pesky Pete' (the driver who comes round the corner on your blind side just as you step off the kerb) and I am so thankful that I found it. So is my wife. I cannot commend it highly enough.
