I read Cocktail codex before, the knowledge is relatively similar but I preferred Cocktail Codex’s approach. There’s a lot of recipes in this book (almost 75% of the book).

I have all the respect in the world for Dale (there would be no contemporary craft cocktail scene without him) but even with the revision this book feels horribly dated. There are too many vodka drinks, too many mid century monstrosities and very little narrative to the text. There's also a slew of typos and questionable facts in here: 'Cynar' is listed as an aromatized wine (it's 100% not) and sherries are lumped into 'fino' or 'oloroso' (i.e. non oxidatively aged and oxidatively aged) sub categories rather than dry styles (fino, amontillado, manzanilla, oloroso, palo cortado; 0 5g residual sugar), sweet styles (PX, moscatel; 160g sugar +) and blends as most professionals now categorize them. You can't possibly tell me an oloroso has in common with a PX than it does a fino. That's just absurd.Forgive the idiom but this book is the very epitome of trying to teach an old dog a new trick. If you're very new spirits and cocktails you might find this book helpful but you'd be so much better off with the Meehan book or one of the Death & Co. books.

Im taking a bartender course at American Bartender School in NYC and my teacher (a man that has over 40 years of experience bartending) recommended this book because he says the autor is a genius bartender, a master on his profession, he knew him personally and said that he knows everything you need to know to be a good bartender. I got my book without even knowing it, but as I started reading it and going through the pages I fell in love with it inmediately! Is so detailed and gives you the basics of every cocktail and liquor! Everything you need to know to expand your knowledge about this amazing world! Also is a really good price for such a beautiful master piece! Can’t wait to finish it!
