Flatpicking Solos: 12 Contest-Winning Arrangements Reviews

Am I missing something? There are only 10 songs in the book, not 12. Other than that; great arrangements, performance notes for each song, 3 versions of each song on CD is real nice!. Working through these will be a lot of fun. I have only started on Alabama Jubilee and it is proving to be a challenge but I see my improvement in only a week.Butonly 10 songs. Did the other two fall out somewhere? Should I look in the shipping box? Clearly the title states 12 CONTEST WINNING ARRANGEMENTS and before somebody says 'well they meant 12 contests are what these songs won' ummmm no not with that wording.sorry, THAT would be intentionally misleading instead of just amusingSo? anyone?

Here is a great selection of fairly challenging solo guitar pieces. If you can master any of them you will have a performance piece good enough to impress anyone. Or, as advertised, compete with. The pieces are from traditional repertory but they sound fantastic. The solos range from moderate to difficult. The best way to master these solos is to memorize them. Check out Scott Fore on YouTube. You will notice the fret hand is almost in slow motion compared to his picking hand. The CD has the solo with accompaniment and two tracks of just the accompaniment in various speeds. The accompaniment, though not notated, is not too difficult to figure out since the chord symbols are above the solos and they sound great on their own.

Great book, I have been using just a couple measures randomly at a time for warmups. The book has a lot to offer. It can be used to evolve your own standards or just pull some great chops out.

This is one of the best flat picking solo arrangement instruction books around. Scott Fore is a world champion guitar picker and it definitely shows throughout why he is. The accompanying cd is very helpful for the advanced songs and its fun getting to play along with Scotts backing tracks. I highly recommend it. Practice is required! :)
