am one of those people who either does not read they synopsis or if I do it is way before I get to the book.
I like the surprise of it, In this case, I knew I loved the author and did not even skim the synopsis, I am so glad I read it that way because I never knew what was going to happen, In fact, I did not realize it was even about Fae, which are one of my all time faves, I know I would have loved it regardless because it was such a different story and had fae in a unique way.
Here are some of the things I loved about it:
I loved that it was a love story, but not a "find my true love, get marries, have happily ever" after story.
It was a love that was already there, A love story that had more story left,
I do not know how to say this without giving anything away, so this may be too vague to be useful.
I loved how the fae's power manifested itself in Bri's world,
I loved both Bri and Quinn, They were quirky, but real, They were smart, playful, and knew what was worth fighting for even when they could not fight the way they would have liked.
They are a great pair and I look forward to see how they develop throughout the series,
The last scene was AMAZING! That is all I have to say on that,
This book was a great start to what I believe will be a phenomenal series! If you like your para with adventure, romance, and a bit of mystery, this book is probably for you.
This is definitely anplus read, so if you are under, I would look elsewhere to get your fae fix.
This is an intense exciting violent read, The human population has been corrupted by Fae and they are making humans kill each other, She has learned from her grandmother that she is half Fae, Brianna's boyfriend Quinn has gone from a sweet sexy guy to an abusive monster, And she keeps her head stuck in the past when he use to be different, She needs to come out of the clouds before something happens to her, This has a cliffhanger. Enjoy I did. This is part of the Tall, Dark and Supernatural bundle, Try as I might, I just could not seem to get into this story, Every time I would pick it up to read a few pages, my mind would immediately drift elsewhere, I finally decided to put it down and move on, Unfortunate, as it seems to get decent reviews, I guess it just wasnt for me, As many of you know I am a huge Belinda Boring fan, so when I was asked to review this book I jumped at the chance.
Let me just say Belinda's writing just gets better and better with each book she puts out, My only problem was that I just didn't start this book sooner than I did,
Bri and Quinn , everything is perfect until one day he just changes into someone she doesn't recognize, Confused and scared she doesn't know what to do and ends up finding about her own family isn't what she thought they were.
This book seriously was a roller coaster ride of fun, drama, hot smexy action and those hot kisses Belinda is known for writing.
I personally bounced back and forth between the male characters in this book I started out like Quinn a whole hell of a lot then bam , he turned into well lets just say even though I love bad boys, I just couldn't go with how he was with Bri.
Then came in Liam 'sigh' , he protects Bri like a man should and treats her like a man should, Can you tell I am Team Liam
Pardon me while I shout or cuss, . . okay I did it silently but picture me screaming at my ereader just a little while ago, Belinda did it again!! I am not sure whether I love her or hate her for her cliffhangers, Okay I still love her, but I am not sure I can handle being left hanging yet again, This time I have to wait til, So the world better not end on Friday or I am going to be so pissed,
Anyway sorry for the rant, if you have read her other books, please I beg you to get this one.
It was brilliantly done even with the agonizing cliffhanger, I really, really wanted to love this book, I'm a big fan of the Mystic Wolves series so I believed I would love this as well, The story had great potential, but was dragged down by a whiny, selfish heroine, I spent the entire book just wanting something awful to happen to Brianna so maybe someone else would take her place.
This book will not deter me from enjoying Ms Boring's other books, but I'm not so sure I will buy the next installment in this series.
Broken Promises by Belinda Boring is a dark an unyielding story of the Fae one that you have not read before.
Bri and Quinn start out their day as any other day IN LOVE, A day that starts out well is all they could hope for, but ends with an unimaginable and unspeakable evil that has been unleashed by the Fae on the human race.
Bri and Quinn are deeply in love until he is converted, She must do what she can to save her beloved who has been corrupted by this sinister and deathly evil.
She will stop at nothing to save the man she loves even if it means putting herself in danger, Bri will learn the truth about herself and who or what she may be, The author has done it again and will leave you waiting for the next chapter in Bri and Quinns escapades.
I received this book in exchange for an unbiased honest review!
Broken Promises by Belinda Boring
reader adult book containing some intimate scenes
This is the first book I have read by this author and it sure won't be my last.
I'm left wanting way more and hoping the next book will come out shortly, This is a hot book and wishing that it didn't end so fast, The ending is left at a climax!! I loved Bri and Quinn as characters! Your experience the emotions that the characters are having and hoping it will get resolved.
The story is unique in a genre that has many authors with great books, This author is in my opinion right up there with Karen Marie Moning, If this author hones some more of her skill, I see great things happening in her future! This story is very well written and HAWT!! I
adore the cover art because it conveys several scenes in the book.
Bri is a clumsy girl who is in love with a hot man named Quinn, They are made for another and they equal out each other, Bri is going out on a date with Quinn when he starts acting strange, but they continue on to the theater.
During the movie all heck breaks out, Bri is left confused and torn at what to do, Quinn's behavior flips on and off, They attempt to get away when she over hears some men outside enjoying the chaos that is surrounding them, Quinn and Bri listen to the men to find out what is going on, Quinn starts acting strange and Bri is left running for her life, Through several events, Bri makes it to a safe haven and finds out some shattering news, Now what is she to do Can she save the man she loves when he doesn't want to be saved Will she convert
Writing Broken Promises has been such an amazing experience and I can't wait to share it with everyone this October.
It has definitely been a labor of love, one that I'm proud of and my Bree and Quinn as an author you can't ask for better characters.
I hope you enjoy it!
Bels author This is a book about Faes fighting to rule our world.
Brianna Lane is a clumsy young lady who is blessed with the love of her boyfriend Quinn who finds her many failings endearing.
They are going out to a movie, Listening to a song on the radio on the way there he seems to get beyond angry all of a sudden.
Scaring her. In the movie he gets worse, everyone seems to be angry and wanting to fight everyone else, Somehow once they leave the movie Quinn manages to fight the compulsion affecting everyone else, Bri seesmen she just knows are not human and she wants to hear what they are saying, What she hears terrifies her, Then Quinn turns again, she can tell not only by his actions, trying to choke her, but because his brown eyes are now a bright blue.
Quinn had promised never to hurt her, thus the title of this book, She runs away but has no where to go, She ends up spending the night in an alley hiding from all the turned people, The next day people like her, not affected, find her and take her to safety, Through phone conversations with her grandmother she learns she is/Fae her dad that she never knew was Fae, She can be turned but it takes more to do so, She has a keepsake in her apartment that she has to find and wear always to prevent being taken over by the evil.
She becomes friendly with the others like her, But her primary goal is not theirs, hers is to find Quinn and somehow save him, He finds her several times and violence is always the result, but she just can't give up on him, Liam is similar to the old Quinn, wanting to protect her, and frequently the one who has to fight Quinn to get her free again.
The ending leaves the future hanging, Bri makes a choice that changes her life, Was it a good or bad choice Only time will tell, the book doesn't,.ofStars
As a fan of Belinda Borings Mystic Wolves series, when I heard about Broken Promises, an urban fantasy with a darker edge, I was intrigued.
Broken Promises is centered around the fae and the human world is drastically altered because of their actions, There is deeper development and background that has to take place in Broken Promises than in the Mystic Wolves series, and while I dont feel the book was flawless, it was a very promising start to a new series.
Broken Promises begins with Bree and Quinn, a couple very much in love, Bree is a fairly clumsy girl and Quinn is her rock, When the fae invade and cause humans to turn on each other, ensnaring Quinn in the violence, Brees world is split on multiple levels.
The world is no longer the same and her lover loses his humanity to cruelty and violence, Bree has a very difficult time accepting the new circumstances, and she is stubbornly determined to try to save Quinn.
Quinn has been influenced and taken over by the dark Fae General, He has become cruel and determined to turn Bree to the violence with him, However, Bree is not alone, she learns that there are others who can resist the fae influence and these others are Guardians that try to protect the world from the Fae.
The Guardians help Bree find out who she really is and give her some hope,
I really like the premise of Broken Promises, I am intrigued by the Fae, how they want to take over the human realm, and they use cruelty and violence to do it.
I am a bit unsure about Bree, I felt that Bree was whiny, she was full of angst, she has a lot of meltdowns, and she doesnt think about the repercussions to her actions.
Also, in the beginning of the book, Bree was described as a super clumsy person, but the clumsiness didnt come into play after the Fae invaded and was never explained.
I did feel for Bree though when it came to Quinn, The thought of losing the person you truly love is a major theme of the book, and the emotions come through.
With a story involving lost love, alternate worlds, and violence around every corner, Broken Promises sets the foundations for what promises to be a thrilling new urban fantasy series.
There is a lot of action throughout Broken Promises, a detailed plot, and background on Bree and her past.
All of the elements to a good story are there but I felt like the story was disrupted at times by Brees repetitious angst and carelessness.
The flow of the story did not feel seamless, However, the characters grew on me and I really did enjoy the story, I will be reading the next installment in this series, I am looking forward to it,
Readers, if you like urban fantasy stories, especially urban fantasy stories centered around the Fae, then you should consider giving Broken Promises a try.
