I actually finished my latest Gibson read, PATTERN RECOGNITION, months ago; it's just that I'm terrible about keeping things updated and haven't gotten around to doing any reviews. I will try to do better, however. I met Bill Gibson many years ago, when he was just a baby author, at a science fiction convention, having already read and been impressed by several of his short stories. This was before he became something of an icon to an entire generation. I think it was even before the term "cyberpunk" (a term I understand he detests) was coined and then applied to his work. In that labelling any author tends to restrict him or her, I can understand his taking exception to it, and even though he is considered the "father" of the genre or the movement or whatever you want to call it, it is unfair to tag him with it, because for one thing, he didn't coin the term (I believe Gardner Dozois did)and, for another, it doesn't do him justice. Bill is a fine writer, and as a writer myself, I think the greatest compliment you can receive is when other writers like your work. I like his work. It's entertaining, stimulating, always thought-provoking, innovative, stylish (and I'm not a stylish kind of guy, generally)and has a sort of "alternative sensibility" that I could never pull off myself, but I think is pretty cool.

I have read all of these over a period of years, probably over a decade and I want to re-read them. I love to read Gibson. Sometimes I don't know what is going on in the novels but just keep on reading and eventually it all comes togethere. Love it.

I specifically read (or rather, re-read) Pattern Recognition, not all of the above books. This was Gibson's first non-science fiction novel per se, although it has a lot of aspects of 6 months in the future. I especially liked Cayce Pollard's protagonist, as a "cool hunter."
