In a follow up to their eye-opening release Hooked, obstetricians Joe McIlhaney and Freda Bush present stunning scientific research on the development of young girls in America's increasingly reckless sexual culture. They survey the reality of prevalent sexual behaviors and attitudes as well as their psychological, social, physical, and spiritual effects.
Despite the harrowing facts revealed by their studies, McIlhaney and Bush give us hope through their expertise as physicians and parents of daughters. Girls Uncovered provides fundamental wisdom and practical advice to help parents, counselors, and church leaders guide young girls safely through the challenges they will face so they can achieve their potential and enjoy full health, hope, and happiness.

This book was disturbing to read! However, if you are a parent, you need to read this, especially if you are concerned about how our toxic society is affecting the way our children, adolescents and teens think.
A 2009 study showed that in America, 65% of senior high school girls admitted to having sexual intercourse. 20% of those same girls, had more than four partners. Society is lulling our children into thinking that having sex before marriage is the norm. 70% of television programs popular with teenagers, have sexually related content. For every HOUR that your teen watches these programs, they will be exposed to 6.7 sexually related scenes. Pop culture is pressuring our teens to act, look, dress and think a certain way which is leading America's teens into destructive behaviors.
Although young men and women are both at risk, Girls Uncovered will show you why our young women seem to be more effected and impacted by the lies that society is using to mislead her. This book is not preachy in anyway and is written by two medical doctors whose years of experience have given them a first hand look at the destructive trend.
I highly recommend this book!

Have you ever wondered what the sexualization of our culture is doing to our daughters? Young people particularly our daughters are in crisis.
Stats are shocking. "Forty-six percent of all high school students (freshmen through seniors) have had sexual intercourse. Approximately 75 percent of graduating high school students have had sex". Stats for college students are even more SHOCKING! "Almost none of these students are seriously committed to their partners for the long term”.
“Girls Uncovered: New Research on What America’s Sexual Culture Does to Young Women” written by two pro-life board-certified obstetrician/gynecologist with impressive pedigrees and Copyrighted by the Medical Institute of Sexual Health, offers hope and tools for parents to guide our daughters ages 13-18 through the confusing messages of our culture.
“Girls Uncovered” weaves psychological and physiological scientific and statistical research of our youth and connects the sobering realities to our modern sexualized culture and how it tries to manipulate and take advantage of our daughters.
I read “Girls Uncovered” following the book “Hooked”. Reading the statistical data for the first time was shocking, yet balanced with wisdom. It was as though a wise grandparent was taking the time to concern herself with the matters of this world for the sake of her grandchildren.

The Chapter, “What Are Girls to Do?” was written directly to girls. We read it together and had an honest and open conversation, one I will remember for many years.
I highly recommend parents to read this weighty book in light of our degenerating culture. Our Biblical convictions will be affirmed over-and-over throughout the book and you will be encouraged to persevere. -
This book is written by a male doctor, and a female doctor, so you have both perspectives. It also has a chapter toward the end that you can invite your teenage daughter to read if she's not interested in reading the entire book. A variety of topics are covered including current statistics on sexual activity in young women, detrimental emotional and health consequences of pre-marital sexual activity, and general information that today's parents of boys or girls would want to know.

Written more for parents of girls, but would definitely be helpful for anyone working with teens/young adults. Solid, straightforward information. Excellent resources in the footnotes.
