Gather The Man In The Mountain Illustrated By Doug Lucas Visible In Softcover
Man in the Mountain by Doug Lucas was more than I thought it would be I was highly surprised delighted and immensely enjoyed this story.
It is not the typical DEA story about a safe house, a witness and the agents assigned to protect her, It goes into depth using literary references relating to real and not famous authors and describes the trials each character experiences when in a sticky predicament and how they tapped into their reminisces about what this or that favorite author would have done in a tricky situation.
It is full with adventure, "what if" good guys vs, bad guys and a wild chase across rocky terrain and dangerous water paths, The mysterious stranger that comes to the rescue from his mountain hideout and the strategic plotting to hunt the prey or captive the hunters keeps the reader turning the pages to see what will happen next.
This story was written to relate to the author and reader in each of us, The bonus is when each character adores or mocks the author he is thinking of expressing real life experiences or they are overzealous with their details of the truth the agents expressed their appreciation or sarcasm with colorful language as they experienced being trek, shot at and chase and cornered like in a cat and mouse game then they switched the game and the fun really begins.
The literacy references are an added humor which this in itself is a treat of surprises and worth the time to read this story.
This story to this reader was a delicious tapestry of a plot of warm, sensual witty and clever characters who are full of common sense and knowledge to get away from their predators since the chase is on to kill the witness and agents protecting her and leave no evidence.
It is done with a flair of style that is thrilling, yet this author has a clever sense of humor and incorporates secret ingredients in the story the jive at self and others the details of the elegant hideout with the beautiful scenery and the talents of each character is highlighted which creates a memorable tale.
The conflict between agent and witness is a typical women cat fight that changes over time, hints of romance in the air too makes this a women's heart throb.
As the adventure and masculine approach to live another day and escape their foes is a male's tonic,
As one is reading you are taking away absorbed into the plot and can imagine being one of the character running and hiding scoping out the landscape and thinking will this be the last breath taken.
It goes behind the scenes of the conviction of the bad guys the trial and their weaknesses and how each one adjusts or is eliminated to the wind storm of their fateful destiny.
It explores human nature and how individuals react when the desperate moment arrives and they face uncertainty,
It has it heroes and its villains and excitement, The human toil the good as well as the bad guys experience and the fight against the odds to achieve the possibility of living until their dying breath, desiring to enjoy just one more day is a teaser in their lives and with the literacy references this story makes this choice a stimulating read and I am becoming a fast fan of this writer.
There are other stories out there by this author and hopefully others in the works because this writing is like dipping into a refreshing mountain brook and relishing coming to the top and enjoy the sunshine of a beautiful day, mysterious and full of wonderment.
From the author' "Every time he tried to crawl closer to the tree line, Jorge and company made fear and the desire to grow older even more significant in his decision to stay right where he was.
But he had decided that when he was down to ten rounds, he was going to try and shoot his way to safety.
It would be an all or nothing effort, he damn well didn't intend to go gently into that good night, he intended to "Rage, rage against the dying of the light" as his favorite poem from Dylan Thomas read".
This reader also read the first book Conversations with a Dead Man and they are like night and day many hidden talents are rare to find but this one author seems to be able to change genre and still delight the readers.
Highly recommend this author for readers looking for a rare undiscovered treasure and action packed stories that touch the soul then go be curious and Google for the Amazon page for this writer and see for yourself.

Slightly imaginative and creative but wasn't something I was thrilled about there was sections that seemed slow or off while others it didn't seems like it was completed chapter.
. Overall I finished but that was tough and confusing as, . . all around weird Tough as nails, no nonsense FBI agent, Deanna Flores, takes crap from no one, especially a man, Marcy Zimmerman, the witness Deanna has been assigned to protect, is a high priced hooker with talents that go far beyond the bedroom.
Together they are on the run from vicious drug lords who want them both dead, Along the way, they find out just how deep the corruption has moved through the departments who have sworn to protect the innocent and put the guilty behind bars.
Childrens novelist and avid writer, Simon Jorge prides himself on his skilled effectiveness when it comes to his job as a hired assassin to a major drug lord, Aiden Salvaje.
His assignment find Deanna and Marcy and eliminate their ability to speak along with anyone else who has too much knowledge on the company and its dealings.
A coldblooded, emotionless killer, Jorge is a patient man and never makes mistakes,
Pitted together, it is a fight to the death for each character, bar one, He is a calm, solitary man, He lives alone in the safety of his fortress, He is the key to the story, He is the man in the mountain,
Sublime. Simply the best book Ive read in months, Author, Doug Lucas keeps getting better and better, The intricate story and character detail rivals that of Mr, Tom Clancy, himself. The odd idiosyncrasies of each personality sets up a love/hate relationship in some, and gives voice to a definite cheer for the heroes to win.
Action and
adventure entwine with the lives of all, The pages keep turning, each chapter brings another dilemma or revelation of the psyche,
The characters are as varied as they are eccentric, Each has their own demons to settle, Each has battles to fight before the last page is turned, The meld and flow of the writing allows the many varied personas to fully develop, When the end arrives, you are sad to see your new friends go, I have no difficulty in stating you will absolutely love this book!
Books play an important role in Doug Lucass The Man in the Mountain.
In fact, there must be a mountain of book references, both real and imaginary, as the FBI chase drug lords chasing undercover agents chasing witnesses chasing etc.
Everybody reads, just as everybody lies in the TV series House and the selfreferential humor and irony remind me of watching Castle.
Wild chases through landscapes familiar to the characters from books, to the reader from reading, lead to a man living in a glorious mountain hideoutfilled with guns and bookstill the wily detective at last “had his rabbit in sight, he was almost sure it was the rabbit of choice and it was rabbit season.
” Everyones hunting a different prey, seeking to make sense of emotions, and either reading or writing, or doing both at once,
The humors a little slow and heavy for my tastes, filled with detail and explanation, but its hard not to smile when yet another book appears.
From Sherlock Holmes to military manuals to cook books and more, they tumble off the page, But “Marcyif you can cook like that, why the hell are you a hooker” asks Deanna, and I wonder tootoo much explanation sometimes and then too little, so you know all will be made clearMarcy retells the story of her childhood like a memoir till “her actions had an Im through talking, this hurts look.
”
From flood to floodgates, mountain to overlord, criminal to master detective, the pages are filled with locations and characters, action and explanation, and ever, always, books.
An interesting novelI kind of wish Id got a more edited version, though perhaps the odd word choices and unfinished chapter endings just meant the fictional author was still working on it.
Not a quick read, but certainly a fascinating concept,
Disclosure: I was lucky enough to hear when this ebook was offered free and got an early copy.
This was a well written story with believable characters and a reasonable plot, I don't usually read this kind of thing but it was crafted in such a way as to make it real,
Yes, a good read, especially for those who enjoy this genre, This is a uniquely written action story of an undercover FBI agent, Aaron Dixon, trying to protect a female agent and a woman in protective custody.
All the key characters are followers of favorite authors and compare each encounter with those chasing them to how their authors would solve each dilemma.
I especially like the part where Aaron blames the author of this novel, Doug Lucas, of promoting the John Wayne Syndrome, which the Marines referred to when a man thinks he's infallible and makes him fearless and careless.
I feel this novel is really two stories in one, as the last third deals with other characters mixed with other attempts to locate and kill the two women who witnessed murder.
But the author slides off in other directions such as cooking and menus and mundane topics,
Furthermore, I also feel like two people have written this story, One chapter will be grammatically well written, The next chapter appears as though no one had edited it as there were too many typos, missing words, or misplaced words.
These errors did distract me from the story line, With good reviewing and editing, this is a good story, But I had wished it had ended sooner once the drug cartel members and leader were captured, After that, it just became a different story,
