JD Miller is the school’s punching bag, verbally and emotionally. He has a loving mother, but her choice in boyfriends is questionable, leaving him a target at home as well as school.
A tragic car accident ends it all for Max when his soul is prematurely removed from his body. The powers that be have asked him to go back to earth temporarily to help classmate JD. Max, always up for a challenge, takes it as a chance to see his beloved Emma again and quickly jumps at what he views as the easy task of helping JD. Max knows with a little cardio he can easily whip the guy into shape, ending all his troubles.
While staying mentally connected to JD, Max’s soul steps into JD’s body. However, Max’s reality is shattered as he enters a world void of love and hope: JD’s world--life as the bullied kid.
Will he survive? Will JD? Did Emma's love for Max die also? Will Max be able to help these Souls in Peril, or is it all as hopeless as JD believes?
Souls in Peril Reviews
-
Wow, where do I begin with this review? Yet again author Sherry Gammon totally blew my mind with one of her books. When I read and reviewed Sherry's first novel "Unlovable" back in November of last year I was absolutely smitten with the story. I honestly never thought she would do it again with Souls in Peril and write a literary masterpiece. This is one of those books that will stick with you long after your done reading it and as I told Sherry it very well might be the BEST book I have read in 2012.
The story begins where we meet a very "popular" high school kid named, Max Sanchez. He has a awesome life. A Mom and Dad who dearly love and support him. A wonderful, loving and sweet girlfriend named Emma McKay. Everything is perfect for Max and Emma. Both soon to graduate and begin their lives together.
Then there's the not so lucky. A boy named JD or "Lumpy Larry", who the mean kids nickname him at school and his best friend Izzy or "Icky Izzy". They both struggle with the day in day out abuse and bulling at school and at home. At home JD deals with his Mother's abusive boyfriend. Who does everything from calling him names to psychically beats JD. Poor Izzy's home life is no better. She is being molested by her creep of a Father all the while dealing with a sickness that is slowly killing her.
One night after a dinner date with Emma at Max's parents house they decided to go out for some frozen yogurt at a place nearby. Although Emma chooses to go home for the night, Max and his parents still go out. On their way home Max and his Mom and Dad get into a tragic car accident in which not one of them survive. So when Max wakes up in limbo not knowing what has happen, he finds his perfect world torn into shreds. While his parents make it into heaven, Max comes to find he shouldn't have died that night along side his parents. Gabe who is a angel explains this mishap and offers Max a deal. Gabe will grant Max a period of time to go back down to earth and fix a life for someone in desperate need with the added bonus to see Emma again. This Soul in Peril just so happens to be JD "Lumpy Larry" who Max finds out was somehow involved in the car accident as well. Max will be living in JD's body, he can think for himself as well as move for JD. His main goal is to find a way to help JD become strong, find HOPE and overcome the bullies and the beatings even if it kills him. Again!
I don't want to give anymore away because I want any new readers to this story to find out what happens to Max/JD, Emma, and Izzy through the course of the book. To feel and experience what JD/Max had to deal with and fight up against. The story is so deep and there are so much more that happens than what I wrote above. Souls in Peril touched my heart more than any book ever has. I love a book that once done reading it you feel like you can walk away lighter and uplifted. Sherry writes this story for both a bully and those who are bullied can find find hope or see the errors of their wrong ways. The story truly spoke to me and touched my soul. In The beginning of the book I was hooked, and left breathless. In the end I was blown away and left in tears. One of the many wonderful things I loved about Souls in Peril is Sherry's ability to have such an expressive writing style. The reader can sense and feel every raw emotion good or bad during the book. She made me feel like I was right there in the book living through JD.
I cannot recommend this book enough to everyone. Trust me, read it and tell me you did not shed a tear or learn something about yourself. Being bullied myself most of my life during school was so very hard for me, some days I just wanted to give up. I just wish I would have had THIS book for me to read when I too was a Soul in Peril. Yes, I know this is one of my longest reviews, and if you have read it up to now then give yourself a gold star. All kidding aside please, please, please read this beautiful book. I guarantee you'll not regret it. -
Is it possible to be a bully and not even realize it? To say things that can ruin another person’s entire day or life and never even notice the effect you’re having? It is for Max Sanchez, a popular seventeen year-old with the kind of life others, like JD Miller, can only dream of.
JD is an overweight, lonely, young man with serious bullying issues both at home and school.
When Max is forced to walk in JD’s shoes for a while, we get a unique view of the issue of bullying from the point of view of an outsider. Sherry does an amazing job of helping her readers discover what it’s like on both sides of the fence, giving insights into not just the bullied, but the bullies, as well.
Besides the hot button issues and unique perspective, the story alone was fantastic. Sherry’s amazing writing and storytelling skills come to life once again, creating not only an impossible to put down read, but characters that are both relatable and likable despite their flaws. With a whole cast of supporting characters, this book was more than just a surface story.
I would absolutely recommend this book to anyone, but especially those who have faced the issue of bullying in their lives. This is another Sherry Gammon top shelf, 5 star read for me. -
Sherry took this book in a direction that I was not expecting, but it was perfect! It definitely got the message out there.
One thing I noticed when I read her first book, was that Sherry is really good at making you feel exactly what the characters are feeling. And if it's at all possible she does an even better job at it in this book. There were so many times that I had to put this book down and walk away cuz I could feel the characters' pain. I felt Em's pain like as if it was me that had just lost someone. Or JD's and Izzie's pain that I was the biggest scum that was ever on the face of this earth.
If I were a high school teacher I would definitely make my students read this. No I WOULD read it to them to make sure that I knew they were actually get the message from this book!
I loved the ending as weird as that sounds. I think it was the perfect ending. It was such a slap in the face to all those bullies out there, because we know that stuff like that really happens. People can only take so much before they just give up on everything. And the ending does just that. There's no happy ending with that part of the book. But it needed to happen so that people could actually see that things aren't always happy and cheerful like hollywood likes to portray it as.
This book shows how just smiling or giving a helping hand to someone in need can change someone's life in such a drastic way. You see it with JD and almost with Izzie. We just don't realize how much we effect others by our actions and words. Whether it's something good or bad, big or small. And I think this book really hits down on that hard! I just wish I could make everyone read this. Like those bully's out there that mean to cause harm to others, or those that don't even realize that they are bullying. And especially to those who do get bullied so that they can realize that keeping quiet isn't always best. That there is always someone somewhere who will help them, if they wont give up there hope and reach out to someone.
I wish I could express better how much I feel like this book needs to be put into the hands of those young and old! I just hope this review has done enough to convince you to read it. Go learn about JD's story so that you can see better what you can do to start putting an end to this huge problem we have going on in every parts of the world! Give these characters a chance to tell you their story! Go find out if your a Max, or JD, a Nick, or an Emma. If you don't like who your more like then change it! -
Souls in Peril is seriously one of the best books I've ever read. It had me in turn laughing and crying, my heart aching for all the characters involved.
Max is a kid who has it all: he's popular, athletic, has a great family and the perfect girlfriend. Then, in an instant his life changes.
JD is the opposite of Max in luck. Overweight and bullied, both at school and at home, JD's only bright spot in life is his friend Izzy.
Max and JD's lives become inexorably intertwined, and for the first time in his life Max is forced to understand what it is to "walk a mile" in JD's shoes.
This book gripped me from the first page and refused to let go until I'd read all the way to the end. The ending isn't all flowers and sunshine, either. It's real. Like life. But I promise you won't be disappointed.
Gammon's writing is full of humor, sorrow, realism, and pulls you into places you might not want to go, but will be happy you did when all is said and done. I HIGHLY recommend this book! -
Warning: This book will break your heart! Oh boy! This book tore me up. It is a beautiful story with a wonderful message that everyone should read and take to heart! Max was such a great character and Emma was wonderful too. JD and Izzy... their stories were just gut wrenching. Really makes you think about the things you say and do and the way you treat people.

I am not sure what I was expecting when I joined this tour, but whatever it was I had it wrong. This book was amazing, and extremely emotional to extents I had not anticipated. But let's just start with the basics. The cover? Absolutely brilliant, main reason I signed up actually. To be honest, I hadn't known how much it fit with the theme of the story until I've read it, it really was brilliant. The title worked in it as well, but the synopsis didn't give much to how emotional the story would turn out to be.
This book is about Max Sánchez, who basically has it all. He has the perfect life, perfect friends, teammates, parents, home life, girlfriend, and body. His perfect life however ends before he knows it, and even though it was an 'error' he could still play out the rest of his life if he can help JD out. JD was the opposite of Max in every possible way. He had a perfect nothing, except the knack of getting beaten up by almost everyone around him. His school life was a terror, his home life was a terror, even the bus rides and the walks home were a terror. To add to that, he was being blamed for killing everyone's beloved Max and his family. Izzy, JD's best friend was having an equally awful life, so there was no one to help either. At first, Max thinks it would be easy helping JD out, all the kid needed was to lose some weight and shower once in a while, little did he know about how hard JD's life really is. Max is struck by a hard reality as he watches everything that was in his life through the eyes of JD and discovers how easy he'd had it and lucky he had been. He thrives on helping JD out, even if it killed him - metaphorically speaking, since he already is dead.
I cried a lot throughout this book. Even with the paranormal part of it, but still, seeing everything JD had to go through was absolutely awful and it wasn't just Max who felt for the kids, I did too. Bullying can be in all forms and shapes, I've been through my share and loathed it, but mine was nothing in comparison to what he went through so I couldn't say I understood. Even poor Izzy, I hated what she went through. I absolutely adored Emma, she really was the perfect girl for Max. Although I hated Max at first, found him cocky and arrogant, seeing him in JD's head made me like him even more, he really was a decent guy, otherwise I am guessing Emma would have left him sooner.
I seriously hated the part where Max died and was given his assignment. I don't know, I am ok with people playing out the part after life, just as long as there's no mention of God and stuff, that usually ticks me off. So, after that part passed, it was easy to get back into the theme of the book.
I honestly don't think I was in such an emotional roller-coaster reading a book since 'One Moment' which really was a terribly emotional book. This book was almost as bad. I didn't cry as much, but was emotionally invested in the story and couldn't stop till it was over. The writing helped stay in the mood and the story was great. I absolutely loved it!
Rating: 4.5/5 -
Just W-O-W!! This book was so amazing and touching, from beginning to end. I didn't want to put it down for a second, but unfortunately life and sleep got in the way, so it took me about 3 whole days to read it. Otherwise, I would have just read straight through! Sherry Gammon is a true genius when it comes to characters. After finishing, I wanted to call some of the people the next day to see how they were doing. They had become that real to me. Then I had to remind myself I couldn't because they were fiction. I was a victim to bullying at a young age. This book touched me so deeply I wish I could go back in time and give it to my younger self. I know if I'd read these words back then, it might have helped me get through those tough times a lot better. I think this book should be on the required reading list for all those in high school and junior high. It's a comfort and a guide to those being bullied, and an eye-opener to the kids who do the bullying! I loved how the author showed us what it was like on both sides, and we were able to witness what it would be like if the roles were reversed. Then we got to watch the characters grow and triumph as they learned to work together. I also loved how it was told from the perspective of a teenage boy. You don't see that very often in YA, and it was fun to get inside Max's head. Such a powerful story! I recommend it to all!
-
WOWWZA!!! I love all of Sherry's work and this book was no different. It was "Heaven Can Wait" meets "Freaky Friday" in a wonderful mesh of writing that brought to light the evils and peril of bullies from the inside out! While the content was serious, the smattering of humor kept the right amount of "lightness" to a more than ugly subject(s). It makes one stand up and take stock of how we treat others in our lives.
I feel every child age twelve to eighteen should have this book as required reading, along with their parents! Well done, Sherry, well done!!! -
MY THOUGHTS:
If I could rate this book a 10 I would but goodreads as well as amazon will only allow a 5. So it is 5+++++++
I won this book as part of a giveaway and I have to say that if you have a teenager this should be a must read for them. I told my 14-year-old son he WILL be reading this book. It was such an emotional read for me. It took me less then 24 hours to read this book once I started I could not put it down. I am honestly at a loss for words to explain how I feel about this book. But I will try so here I go…
You will be taken on an emotional ride and your heart will hurt more times then not. You will wish you could just jump into the book and just rescue JD. I know I absolutely fell in love with Em she is the sweetest and kindest kid. I can only hope that my children turn out to be like her. I don’t want to scare people and have them think that it is just a “downer” kind of book because yes it has its moments of complete heartache but there are also moments that will make you smile.
As sad as it is, as a fiction book bullying is happening on a daily basis all around us. I think this may help some children see how hurtful and harmful it can be. I am sure some may find it offensive because of some of the actions in the book but I have to say that personally I believe it is very accurate as to how some children react to being bullied (all you need to do is watch the news) as well as how some children act when watching others being bullied.
I can not speak highly enough of this book I will be telling ALL of my friends and family who have children that they need to purchase this book and have their children read it after they have.
When reading this book I immediately disappeared into their world and when reading, that is all I can hope for. To have a book pull me so far in it is no longer a book but like I am standing there watching everything play out before me. So when reading it is hard to not be effected by the words that are printed such as:
Will no one befriend me, will no one dare?
Not being is an option that can’t be so wrong.
Yelled at and mocked; Defaced and Ignored.
Your heart goes out to the character; you want to save them, love them, hold them.
I will have to say that this is the second book I have read by Mrs. Gammon and it has absolutely effected me so deep down and emotionally that I can not just leave it as I have read this book and marked it on my goodreads list as well as on amazon. I have to spread the word of this book. I have emailed my sons freshman English teacher the title of the book as well asking her whom I need to email at the school district office to have them read the book to possibly add it to their required reading list. I cannot see how anyone who reads this book would not be affected by it. It is absolutely AMAZING! -
Souls in Peril will completely take you by surprise and touch your heart.
Bullying is a huge epidemic around the world. I don't think people realize how serious it is until it happens to them or someone close to them. Sherry Gammon captures those feelings of vulnerability, hopelessness, worthlessness, and defeat that people who are bullied feel everyday. She does an amazing job at connecting the readers to the situations in the book and showing all sides of bullying from high school students and staff, to members of the community, and to those who are closer to home.
JD and Izzy both have tough lives. They are bullied not only at school, but also at home. There is no safe place for them anymore and they feel hopeless. You can't help but feel for JD and Izzy. These characters are so attacked and beaten that you'll instantly feel protective of them and just want to hug them and tell them you are there for them.
Then enters Max and Emma. While they may not be perfect, they are still pretty awesome in my book. These two reach out to JD and Izzy and try to get others too as well. They are both going through a rough time and yet, they still understand the need of a friend and someone on your side. There are a couple characters in this book that you just want to stand up and cheer for because by the end of the story they are so amazing and you want the world to know how great of people they are. Sherry Gammon really connects you to the characters and makes JD, Izzy, Max, Emma and so many not only a part of your life, but one you can't imagine were not there before.
Souls in Peril is a heartbreaking and captivating novel. It is a story that will make you examine your own lives and how you see and treat others. There are extremely sad parts, and other parts that will touch your heart and give you hope.
While the beginning of this story started off a little rocky, things soon smoothed out and it became a powerful story and one completely worth reading. -
One of the funniest endings! This book is probably going to stay with me a while, this year I have struggled with similar feelings to JD and Izzy and had to reach out to others for help. The first time I got it I asked as I was scared of what I was feeling, I was lucky that I felt I could go to my parents but even they didn't hear the first two times. The second time I didn't care, it wasn't scary anymore but due to the first time I had people in place that I was used to talking to and told them how I felt and they got me through it. These issues as the author said occur even with a good background, I got through bullying at school because I was constantly told it would get better. This year I was depressed due to chronic illness and couldn't see how it could get better - someone showed me and now it is. Words hurt no matter what the person saying actually means in reality, if it rings a bell it will burrow in even more. Just over a week ago a friend of the family committed suicide while at school, I wish I had known him, I wish someone like Max could have been there for him, and I wish someone had told him it would get better.
This book drags you right in but isn't too overwhelming, it makes you think without preaching to you, and apart from wanting to know more about what happens I think it was a good place to end the Max/JD connection. The only thing I would have liked more is a greater sense of JD, all though we got a bit Max was overwhelming, but those are my only complaints and really just a longing for more!
I definitely recommend this book, and someone to talk through all the issues that come up afterwards too. Also although the site is mainly for LGBTQ there is a site called itgetsbetter.org full of videos of people who had a really hard time growing up but now have a full and happy life - everyone should check it out.
Because it does - get better you have to hang on and reach out. Easier said than done but so true. Thank you Sherry Gammon for writing this. -
Because I’m a huge fan of author Sherry Gammon, naturally when she released Souls In Peril I had to have the book.
What I like about Sherry’s work is that she talks openly about real life situations in a fictional world, builds characters that anyone can easily fall in love with, and writes endings that leave you wanting more. And Souls in Peril delivers exactly that. Her narrative is smooth building up tension and ending with a well-drawn climax. Not for one second did I know where the story headed, but rather flipped page after page impatiently wanting to find out.
This young adult novel is one of my favorite reads this year. Max, the main character, goes through one of the best arcs I’ve read in a long time. He’s the perfect guy (senior in high school) living in a perfect world. He’s not arrogant, but he’s not humble either. I’d say confidence is one of his strongest qualities. Unfortunately tragedy strikes and Max falls deep, losing everything and then some.
Next, we follow him through a brand new journey with trials, conflicts and doubts to fill a lifetime. Enter JD, the school’s most bullied student with whom Max has no other choice but to… coexist for a while.
Sherry drives the reader to real emotions masterfully creating trials, conflicts and doubts. You’ll cry and laugh, ache and root for these heroes. I also liked the messages that come with this book, that life is worth living, that we should never give up and we should always try our best. As life goes on and routine sets in we have a tendency to forget how important these things are. Truth is—tomorrow isn’t promised to anyone.
I recommend this book to everyone loving a good, clean YA for themselves or their teenagers--so worth reading it. -
I am not even sure where to start, writing about this wonderful book. At first I wasnt too sure that I would get into it, however the way that Sherry introduced the characters made me love them automatically. Then the first BIG thing happened and I litteraly had my mouth open for a long time, in shock of the event but also not knowing where this book is going to go. This book touches down on some serious issues that everyone deals with in Life and I feel that Sherry has done it justice. She was truthful and raw about it and in some chapters I didnt know if I could continue the book but I could not put it down, It was sooooo good. The characters are amazing in this book. Max I fell in love with because he is a highschool boy but has a Heart of a grown Lovable man, and Emma is a true sweetheart.... JD omgosh I felt for him so much... and it made be think about real life and how this happens everday. Once I got into the book I couldnt put it down, I wanted to know what will happen next, and how Max and JD will work together, I cried several times in the book, I laughed and smiled, however as I was reading the last chapter I was balwing...... HUGE uncontrolable tears and hiperwentaliing.... I have not done that with a book I dont think EVER. I have cried yes and balwed but this was uncontrolling, and as I read the last sentance I smiled. So thank you Sherry Gammon you are truly a fantastic writer and I can not wait to read more of your books. I recommed this book for everyone, Mothers, Sisters, Aunts, Uncles, Brothers and Fathers and young adults as everyone needs to read it and maybe it will teach us something...
Thanks Again Sherry I adore you, you are one talented Woman!!

Seventeen-year-old Max Sanchez is the star baseball player as well as their team captain. He’s in love with Emma, the beautiful head cheerleader. Life is good for Max, his future is looking great—until he dies in a car crash. His body isn’t supposed to die right away, but due to a mistake by an overanxious and under experienced angel, his soul is taken too soon. Max is given a choice, either to hang around a pristine waiting room or use that time to help a soul in peril. Max had always had a generous heart and he doesn’t give it a second thought. He immediately dives into his assignment: JD Miller, an overweight, lonesome, and seriously bullied young man from Max’s own school.
Going from being the most popular guy in school to the most vilified sends Max into a depression—one that Max has to battle along with JD’s other intruding emotions. For the first time Max truly experiences terror, panic, humiliation, and even abuse through JD’s body.
Author Sherry Gammon deals with a very difficult and emotional subject in Souls in Peril: bullying. She writes about the effects on the lives of those on the receiving end in a realistic and sensitive manner as well as touching on some of the possible reasons of those who do the bullying.
This story had me trapped in its strong ebb and flow of escalating emotions. It pulled me along like a relentless undercurrent through to the end. Be ready with a few tissues. -
This story is told from Max's point of view, and I found that very important. Most times when we read bully stories they are told from the victim. Max, on the other hand, was not the victim and even played a role in bullying JD. When we first meet him, he is just the normal teenager and we witness his bullying. But once he is thrown into JD's body, we witness a complete transformation. I felt sorry for him as he realized what mistakes he made and felt his change of heart was genuine. He grew into a very strong, likable character.
As for JD, I connected with him instantly. Even though his life was one of complete torture, he still kept things to himself and didn't say a word as to protect his mother. He cared deeply about Izzy and wanted to protect her but didn't know how. I honestly wasn't sure how he kept living day to day because I don't think I would have survived his life for very long.
The message in this book was one that I don't think teenagers and young kids can hear enough: you don't know what someone's life is like, don't bully and don't judge. This is a story that needs to be told again and again. Gammon has found a very unique and interesting way to get this message across.
I can't recommend this book enough. Not just for kids either, adults too. Everyone should take some time to read Max and JD's story and hopefully a difference will be made. -
Sherry has outdone herself! I really liked this book. The problem of bullying has been around forever and Sherry gives us the chance to see all sides of bullying in this novel. The book was well written, funny and heart wrenching. It was hard to put down. Warning: spoiler alert for the rest of the review. I loved how Max was able to literally walk in JD's shoes and to know how it feels to be awkward athletically and different than the mainstream. Not only that, but Max felt the same kind of emotions that JD would feel in different situations. This gave Max a true glimpse into the life of JD. Everyone would benefit from reading this book. We have no idea what it is like to be anyone other than ourselves. We don't know why people act the way they do or are the way they are. The only way we can know, is if we had the chance to walk in their shoes. I love Sherry's letter to the reader at the end of the book; it beautifully sums everything up.
-
First, I'll say thank you to Sherry.
I absolutely love this book! The perspectives are well thought out, believable, endearing and emotionally developed. Being able to see from all sides provides the reader to get inside the character's minds and the interwoven relationships. This book would be an excellent and valuable teaching tool for English Classes in schools because of way the characters are represented. You read what it's like for each of them, giving a well rounded view to the reader. Again, I loved this book. The bold frankness of the story, the reality of what bullies do to there victims, the angst victims feel, the crushing and debilitating results of their suffering, as well as the truth in hope and help that many don't realize is there because they feel alone, and the awareness that happens when people realize what they thought was 'just a joke' really isn't and is harmful to another, carries well and the message is clear. Excellent read! -
I sometimes find it hard to jump right into a story. Not with this book! You get to know the characters in a well laid out plot. I wanted to read the book straight through. I have a problem with stopping and getting bored with some novels but this book was always on my mind and I was anxious to finish it. In Souls in Peril you experience what outcasts feel and see how just one person really can make a difference and how those who feel low and have no options can receive help if they reach out. This is a must-read for teenagers and adults alike and it will be for my children at the appropriate age. My only drawback was that I didn't like parts of the ending. However the writing is fantastic. Thank You Sherry Gammon for the wonderful read.
{This book was provided by the author for an honest review.} -
10*s. I recieved an eARC copy of this book directly from the author in return for an honest review.
WOW......What an emotional roller coaster this book is. I was totally sucked into this story from the very first page. Sherry hit it right on writing the feelings of teenagers, peer pressure, and bullying all in one fabulous book!! I could feel what the characters felt and could very easily relate to the situations in this story. It had me smiling one minute, to crying, to being down right mad. This is a MUST read story that is very well written and fast paced and will make it very hard to put down. It is not just for teens, but any age would enjoy reading this book. Since October is National Bullying Month, this book fits right into that catagory!! Thank you, Sherry Gammon for another brilliant read!! -
The major themes in both of Sherry Gammon's books concern bullying, which, unfortunately today, is a very common occurrence in the world, and these books show the perspectives of the victims and the bullies and show throughout the course of the book the error of their ways and even shows that life is tough, harder for some people than others, but there is a light at the end of the tunnel- Hope. As heartbreaking as some of the events in Souls in Peril are, the main theme that readers should take from this book is that there is hope. People can change and be made to face their actions and hopefully become better people after. Souls in Peril was a hard book to read at times, but it was written with great feeling and passion about ending bullying which is great and as hard as it was to read, it was a book everybody should read.
-
I loved this book!!! What another fantastic story by Sherry Gammon. I was so hooked on this book I had contemplated taking a day off work just to finish it - but I didn't, so I continued to read it later that night until I got to the end.
I loved the whole 'in your body' experience and the way it was written - you had Max's POV but there were also the POV from JD as well even when the two souls were together. I just thought it was brilliant the way Sherry Gammon wrote this book.
It actually reminded me of an old TV programme that I loved as a child Quantum Leap where Sam (the main character) was always travelling through time but ended up in someone else's body.
Just brilliant, Sherry!!! Makes me wonder though if there will be a sequel??? -
I think every teenager should read this book. Probably every adult too. The main focus of this book is on bullying which is a major problem among youth and adults alike. Bullying is not okay. Ever.
This books is full of hard, real life challenges. It deals with abuse (physical and sexual), death, suicide, and of course, bullying. Some scenes are more graphic in nature. Parents should be cautioned in allowing younger teens to read this.
This is not an easy book to read. I was angry and I was sad. But hopeful too. We cannot allow bullying. If we see it, we need to step in and help. Everyone deserves a safe place to be. Everyone deserves to be loved. Kudos to the author for tackling such a difficult subject and dealing with it in a relevant way for teenagers. -
Awsome book! If only we all had to live in someone elses "shoes" for just one day wouldn't the world be a different place! This book puts bullying in a whole new light. This is a story that shows how the kindness of just one person can change someones whole outlook on life. I would recommend this book to anyone but I really think it should be a required read for Jr. high and High school students. Great job Sherry! I look forward to reading more of your work!

WOW! It has been a while since I have read a book that caused me to experience so many emotions…joy, excitement, passion, despair, perseverance, fear, remorse, love, devastation, sadness, determination, embarrassment, regret, with the underlying message throughout the book of “never give up.” A must read for all teens & pre-teens!
Sherry takes you on an amazing journey as the most popular athlete, who has everything going for him, experiences the least popular kid’s life. -
Heart wrenching, sobbed and sobbed through this book, so many familiar circumstances it was like reliving my school life all over again...very sad, very emotional but unfortunately oh so very true. A fabulous book, that puts you through an emotional wringer..not my usual romance but a great YA book that had some very important messages throughout the book..brilliant.

This book talks about some serious topics without pointing fingers or getting boring. The author did an excellent job with the characters and I loved Max he was so positive and a sweet boy. I wish that teens would have to read this for school and maybe learn that the bully "jokes" are not that funny.
