During the Gulf War in 1991, Chris Ryan became separated from the other members of the SAS patrol, Bravo Two Zero. Alone, he beat off an Iraqi attack and set out for Syria. Over the next seven days he walked almost 200 miles, his life constantly in danger.
Of the eight SAS members involved in this famous mission, only one escaped capture. This is his story . . .
The One That Got AwayJunior edition Reviews

The one that got away is a great book, and now suitable for younger readers. I admire the work and the fight to survive they put up in the fight against Saddam Hussein. A must read book! One of my favourites, alongside 18 hours!

More of a true account of what happened on that mission than Andy McNabbs version. It's not as exaggerated by any starch of the imagination. One thing on both versions really baffle me, being associated. To a couple of people
Who one still his in the SAS and one now left, who I do know extremely and I do mean extremely well is why they actually chose to write under their real names. Knowing they will always be a target for someone out there. The vast majority keep their identities secret. Anyhow this version is brilliant, I do recommend this version by far. Knowing what these guys really do have th o put up with only brings admiration for what they do. The endurance is second to none. When captured because of what regiment they are from the torture is brutal beyond believe. It's a awesome book this version. Very very much enjoyed it, having read both versions I highly recommend this one as a must read. Well done Chris you deserve the accolade you get for writing this. Most of all thank you for once being a member of the elite -
