Joann Arnold
friend shared this book with me and it was a quick and enjoyable read, Although I didn't personally relate to any of the characters, I loved the different things of the book: freedom from slavery and abuse, especially that of jealous and controlling husbands.
I also loved Callie's character

and her spunk and sense of adventure, I couldn't put it down until I had read it, It was a little predictable, but the story line was great, with enough twists and turns to keep me turning the pages, Definately recommend it. This was a good book that uncovered a lot of mystery, I was shocked by a few of the discovereis, It was a grat mystery with intrigue and even disguise! This is an easy read I read it in about a day and a half.
It had a good story line, full of adventure. It was a little predictable though, If I gained anything from it I would say my desire to work on my family history has been heightened, It was a good clean book and I do recommend it for a relaxing enjoyable read, A perfect example of LDS fiction that works! Instead of some story where the protagonist's membership in the LDS church doesn't matter one whit, this story gives us a character whose discovery of faith is a catalyst for the entire plot.
Of course, I have my issues with minor plot details, but the theme of agency was well developed and intriguing, This one worked for me, This is the second time i have read this book, and I still loved it as much the second time around! You are transported into callie's world and feel all she goes through! This book was a surprise! When I started reading the prologue, I thought "Oh, maybe this isn't for me.
It's not grabbing me. " But, I always try to read at least the first couple chapters of a book before I completely give up on it, By the time I had, I didn't want to put it down! WOW!! It completely sucked me in and I had to know what was going to happen next.
The main antagonist, IMO, was sometimes too shallow, too twisted/evil without alot of substance, but that in no way diminished the story or the protagonist's journey.
I highly recommend this book! Great LDS fiction with a lot of suspense! It was nothing that I was expecting and it kept me reading until the very end.
Loved it!!! My daughter and I really liked this book, It was interesting to read how one of the main characters found her testimony again and realized that she had never really lost it in the first place.
This was a very good book, I actually really liked this book, I learned a lot about some of the history of the blacks that were brought over as slaves, It also moved quickly and had a great ending, If you like light reading it is a good read, Great Book, LDS author. caves, secert passages, good mystery, got this at Dessertbooks, com I really loved this book! It is very captivating, Suspense, mystery, with caves and hidden rooms, Includes a little black history as well, very cool, Couldn't put it down. This was a fun book, Once again, one of Aisling's, I do enjoy her LDS fiction, Callie McAllister falls in love with the perfect man and moves into the perfect house, but she wakes up one morning to find that things are far from perfect.
