[Siren Everlasting Classic ManLove: Erotic Alternative Futuristic Sci-Fi Romance, M/M, bondage, spanking, HEA]

Rojan Ja'Dar is a rogue, a pirate that buys and sells cargo for a living. He is his own man, skirting the edge of the law and answering to no one. Arriving on a particular planet, he goes to drop off cargo and discovers a human pet being sold at an auction house. Intrigued, Rojan breaks all his rules and buys the human as his pet. It isn't until after he purchases the human that Rojan discovers he's just bought his mate.

Claiming Tyion Rhodes is not as easy as buying him. Not understanding the danger he is in, Tyion fights his situation as a highly prized and sought after pet in Rojan's world. Rojan has to convince Tyion that being his mate is not as bad as being a pet, even if they have to pretend to the rest of the world that Tyion is just a possession. That is hard to do when someone is after Tyion, someone not from Earth.

Ummmm.... yeah... this did not work for me.

This was alien/sci-fi/growly-mate/captive-human smut. Now that sounds amazing to me! I love all of those things. However, this was like the bad, ugly cousin of sci-fi erotica- It looked so good from far away but when I got close, it had a unibrow and food between its teeth.

Honestly, I just didn't get it. The characters, the writing... it didn't make sense to me. Tyion is a kidnapped human slave, but then he magically falls in love with his master after like five seconds. He oddly barely seems afraid of these humongous aliens and, even stranger, everyone speaks English. There are so many issues that I had with the plot it isn't even funny. I'm too exasperated to go into them all. The writing is all like this:

A low, appreciative noise rumbled from Rojan, half growl, half purr. And it was totally hot!

It felt like a cruder version of
The Last Pure Human, which is both amazing and free.

I'm going to say there are two types of sci-fi romance readers:
    1) Those who can quote you the crystalline structure of Dilithium
    and
    2) Those who want to know when the kissing starts (preferably between Kirk and Spock).
I am one of the latter. So I don't mind if the world-building is sketchy or the technology isn't explained. Yeah, it's a positronic brain. I don't care how it works. Is it kissing someone? I'm good.

So with that in mind, I thought this book was wonderful! Great fun, and a keeper for re-reads.
I can't wait to read the sequel. There had better be a sequel…. Write more, dammit! :)

Stormy Glenn books are like summer movies. They're fun, you eat a whole box of Milk Duds during them, there are some explosions and someone gets laid. But don't look for a deep meaning, there isn't one. It's just fun reading.

  • Serena Yates

This is a great story with some interesting aliens who go around the universe collecting pets. Specifically, human pets. Humans are seen as weak and primitive creatures, but very 'trainable'. That one made me smile.

I thought the concept of citizens of planets which aren't part of the United Planetary Alliance having absolutely no rights whatsoever was a rather human one. It's probably how we'd treat aliens, if we were the species in charge. A very chilling thought indeed.

But, I digress. This book puts humans into the position of weakness and follows the story of Tyion, who is abducted to be sold as a slave. Luckily he gets rescued by Rojan, who finds out that Tyion is his mate. Rojan pretends to be a tough master, even spanks Tyion to show his new pet who's in charge, but he's a big softie inside. An interesting mixture and one I loved reading about. I can't wait for the sequel...

I liked the first third. After that the story reads like a joke. Somehow I don’t think it was intentional.
Slave Auction starts with Rojan Ja’Dar buying a recently kidnapped human. Earth doesn’t know about the existence of the United Planetary Alliance. That makes humans unprotected from slavery. That’s how Tyion ends up in Rojan’s hands. The first third of the story with the new information, various misunderstandings and heartbreaking Tyion’s attempts to understand what is happening to him is pretty good. After that, it becomes a huge joke.
At one time, Rojan’s doctor asks Tyion about his sexual experience and he says he had two partners in his life. Later in the story he thinks how ‘he’d been on countless dates and had several one night stands’. Two equals several here, I guess.

I'm reviewing this months after the fact (I finished it on vacation & internet coverage is spotty in many National Parks) and while I remember the basic plot - I have to say it didn't leave much of an impression? So, the rating is probably generous and most likely due it being performed by
Sean Crisden (one of my top 10 favorite narrators).

  • Remington Ward

Tyion is a normal human until he's abducted by aliens and sold into a slave auction, where he's purchased as a 'pet' by the cat alien Rojan, a member of the Phangar species. Except Tyion is really Rojan's mate and drama ensues.

Okay, so this is my problem with Stormy Glenn: I'm usually interested in the premise of her books, and sometimes the beginning is actually very interesting in that guilty-pleasure way. But the glaring technical errors, spelling errors, punctuation errors, and errors in plot flow completely tarnish it. One minute Tyion claims he's only had two sexual partners in the past, several chapters later he's thinking about how he's had a ton of one-night stands. In one instance "Rojan" changes to "Roland". This isn't endearing at all, and I do wish this novel had a decent editing, because it truly wasn't the worst plot. Like I said, it's a guilty pleasure.

A very chilling thought indeed to see “us humans” at the other end of the spectrum.

But, I digress. This book puts humans into the position of weakness and follows the story of Tyion, who is abducted to be sold as a slave. Luckily he gets rescued by Rojan, who finds out that Tyion is his mate. The twists and turns that follow as their relationship develops had me smiling about their antics, panting for air when they got physical, and frowning in dismay and anger when the villain made an appearance.

Rojan is a space pirate, but based on the kind of cargo he carries, I got the impression he is actually a bit of a knight in slightly tarnished armor as well. He buys Tyion on an impulse and pretends to be a tough master. At one point he even spanks Tyion to show his new pet who's in charge, but he's a big softie inside. An interesting mixture and one I loved reading about.

Tyion is a young human who is facing the “classic” alien abduction scenario: torn from his bed by a white light in the middle of the night, sold as a slave, then examined by an alien doctor – who has a big silvery probe. That is where the traditional situation ends and a wild adventure begins. His emotions are, understandably, all over the place, but one thing is certain: he is very attracted to Rojan – despite the man’s initially overbearing attitude. When the villain comes along to take Tyion away, the human is ready to fight tooth and nail to be returned to his alien “master”.

If you like stories about huge, powerful aliens who abduct humans to make the into their pets, if you enjoy reading about the weaker human figuring out he is the one who is in charge, and if you’re looking for a hot, adventurous, and entertaining read set in outer space, then you will probably like this novel. Personally, I can't wait for the sequel...

Forgive me but where's the universal translator? How do Phangarians understand English? Does Tyion ever bathe? It's all in the deets and too many are missing in this novel. How does he go from serious opposition to their coupling to totally accepting they are mates. Oh and Don't get me started on Cory and Rav!BUT! I still want to read the sequel :P

I must admit to being completely bummed that there isn't another story in this series. I was looking forward to starting the next one right away to see what happened to his friend, dammit. I don't usually go for the sci-fi, space-type stories but this one was very good. Nothing sad or overly sugary, just a nice way to spend a couple of hours.

    Nothing but fluff…but yummy fluff

Warning: This review might contain what some people consider SPOILERS.

    Rating: 8/10

    PROS:
    - I was intrigued right from the start--as in, by the second page--by the fantasy world and by Rojan. Alien werewolves in space? Sign me up.
    - Rojan is incredibly protective of Tyion for a number of reasons, and Tyion instinctively feels safe with him. Rojan goes a little overboard when they first meet and he has to punish Tyion for not following orders, but Rojan immediately feels guilty about it, and once he considers the situation from Tyion’s perspective, Rojan becomes the absolute picture of contrition. He’s nothing but sweet from then on out.
    - There are 3 or 4 sex scenes here, in a relatively short novella, and they’re sort of middle-of-the-road as far as explicitness goes. I found them pretty hot, though: there’s a definite D/s aspect to them (although very few trappings of more conventional D/s stories, like bondage and pain games and such).
    - Glenn introduces a second couple near the end of this story and gives just enough information about them to make me anxious to read their story in another volume.

    CONS:
    - (I wasn’t bothered by this, but I know some readers are; thus the “con” here…) There is a huge difference in the characters’ sizes--Rojan is about 7 1/2 feet tall and Tyion isn’t a particularly tall human, so I was picturing him at about 5’9”, at most. Tyion also has white-blond hair to the bottom of his back, pale skin, and a “heart-shaped face.” As a result of these physical differences and Rojan’s werewolf nature, he treats Tyion much of the time like a helpless little creature who can do very little for himself and needs constant protection.
    - Tyion makes it clear early on this story that he’s truly not a fan of punishment (as, for example, some subs are). In fact, he’s actually quite frightened of it. Then very late in the book, Rojan jokes around with Tyion about punishing him if he’s a “bad boy,” and that playing with the idea of punishment as a pleasurable thing seemed forced to me.
    - The typos and misspellings that are typical of this genre are present here, and although they’re not as prevalent as in some other stories, there are some notable slipups: the one that annoyed me the most was the (repeated) misspelling of “nape” in a story about werewolves…which are kind of all about the neck and shoulder area.

Overall comments: I really liked this story: I’m a fan of werewolf stories in general--especially the idea of mates, which is essentially just a twist on the love at first sight storyline--but I LOVE the idea of werewolves in space. This isn’t really what I would consider a Master/slave story, though (not that I have much experience with those): Tyion is technically Rojan’s property, but the relationship is essentially equal as far as who has more emotional power.

Let me start by saying. I actually really enjoyed this. I am slightly shocked and appalled. There was so much wrong with this story but for some reason I still loved it. I walked into this thinking it would be a bust but I was pleasantly surprised.

The blurb is interesting and lured me in but then I read an excerpt and was totally turned off. The excerpt started with the first conversation the MC's have with one another and I found the writing to be awkward and disjointed. I actually decided to pass on this book because it didn't seem worth the price. Oh how wrong I was( thanks secret Santa for hooking me up).

I would have liked this to be longer. I thought Ty and Rojan were really cute. Where's the second story?!!

  • Jimmy Hanson

An interesting take on things [aliens and abductions:], but shallow really. It is briefly noted that Tyion is [or was:] taken from his bed in the middle of the night, and is now to be sold in slavery to whichever alien becomes the highest bidder. He is [of course:] amazingly beautiful with long blonde hair blah blah blah. Honestly, how many adult men in this world are amazingly beautiful with long-ass hair? Gets monotonous just reading it.

Rojan is cool, or starts out as cool. Then he becomes simpery. Then kind of pussy-whipped [or dick-whipped? Either way, he makes himself as much, it's not by intention of Tyion:]. He bows down to Tyion's every want and need and feels a great deal of understanding a guilt ... and yet, only pages after he 'understands' that gee, the changes must have been hard for Tyion to be dramatically stolen and dropped somewhere else, when pointed out by another character he reacts in a way that portrays confusion, astonishment, and 'oh my god, I didn't think of that ... poor thing, how could I have not seen that before?'

    o.o;;

The introduction of Cory though, and the possibility of a future relationship with Cory and Rav was refreshing. Hope to read about them soon. ^_^

as always, story easy and fun to read. I love to read Stormy Glenn when I'm feeling down. her stories are always enjoyed. plot easy to understand, hot sex, alpha males protecting cut guys. an good way to empty your head from bad thoughts.

  • Mandi

Really enjoyed this one. Hoping the author continues with this series. (I'd love to read about what happens to the main characters friend)

  • Lizzie

3.5 stars, but I so wanted to give this a higher rating. I read this years ago, when it first came out and then, just yesterday I came across it again. When I saw that it had been "Extensively revised and expanded" and that the second book was about to be released in a few weeks, I couldn't not buy it again and re-read it.

Basically it was the same except for the last few chapters. They went beyond where the original did and I really enjoyed the fleshed out ending. UNTIL chapter fifteen. The beginning started out well enough and then you get to the final love scene and it fell into a HOT MESS. I'm not saying that lightly. I read the story late, so to be fair I went back and re-read the last chapter this morning in case my tiredness had a hand in my comprehension of the scene. It didn't. It was still choppy and hard to follow.

In any case, I'll leave it to you to decided yourselves because in general it was a sweet, fluffy story that really draws you in and it's Stormy Glenn.

  • Beck

To be honest, I quite like this story but ... and it's a big but ... my tolerance for the disregard Stormy has for her readers is starting to wane.

Stormy Glenn is a prolific author, and one would have to assume that she is selling a few books ... why then, does she insist on publishing sub-standard products? ... my first drafts have less errors than a Stormy novel and that is just lazy publishing IMO ... either sack your editor or actually listen to them!

Aside from the fact I spend a hella lot of time wincing at the typos and poor formatting, this is typical Stormy Glenn ... plot holes you can drive a truck through, cliché characters, sexy smex and enough fluff to satisfy my PMS.

I own a lot of Stormy's books because I am always tempted by the blurb ... as I run out of money, I am starting to leave her books on the shelf in favour of more polished products.

This story seemed very dichotomous to me. As if two different authors wrote the first and second half of the story. The first one wanted to write an erotic novel and the second one a romance. It was a short novella, so that may be responsible for the dramatically quick switch from one to the other - no time was allowed for the development of characters, so they just changed drastically from one sentence to the next.

I am always interested in authors that can create an entirely new world. However, the character's just didn't do it for me, I didn't really like any of them, didn't really hate them either - they didn't create much of any emotional connection whatsoever, very bland...the doc was okay, but he was a very minor character.

  • Christy

3.5 Stars ~ This is a super fun beginning to an erotic sci-fi space adventure. Tyion is freaking adorable and Rojan is completely hot. I liked the worldbuilding particularly the way the rest of the universe views Earth and humans as not very evolved and only good for use as slaves and/or pets. *smirk*

It’ll be interesting to see (if Stormy returns to this world 😝) whether Rojan and his crew will end up stopping their black market business and, instead, start going after the illegal slave traders. Hmmmm. Regardless, I’m going to jump into Cory and Rav’s story next. Rav is Rojan’s second-in-command and Cory is Tyion’s best friend. Pretty sure I’m going to enjoy their story as well.

  • M'rella

As always with SG's books the beginning is rather promising but as the book continues the story deteriorates. Details are not very well thought through, there are too many insignificant little scenes that could have been easily omitted and replaced with more important events. The end is jumbled, as if the writer got tired of writing her own book.

The story could have been so much better, since the plot itself is really not that bad... And so for the plot and plot alone I give it two stars instead of one.

  • Tamela

Not one of my favorite Stormy Glenn stories and I don't really know why. It just didn't get my full attention. The story seemed rushed without really getting to know the characters.

And another story where the characters has a name which is weird to read / pronounce... Tyion. I'd almost rather they author just used the name SAM so that I would not stumble over some weird name that pulls me out of the story trying to figure it out every time I see it :) Just me :)

  • Lee

I was disappointed in this book. I like the premiss of the book but the story didn't deliver as much punch as I had hoped. The protagonist, in my opinion, acquiesced to his new environment too fast, and too early. Falling in love with his "master" with little effort and little thought short circuited what could have been a wonderful story.

  • OkayKim

I'm kind of "spaced out" with this one.

  • Vivianne TM

Lets just say I just finished it because it was so short and for the perverse pleasure of hating cardboard characters and lazy plots.

  • Violet

I think I sprained my eyes from all the eye rolling. Stupid plot, stupid dialogues, characters with a depth of cardboard box. Complete and utter bullshit.

  • Kathleen

A fun romp through space if one can get by the simplistic writing and grammar/spelling errors.

  • Juxian

It was so bad I don't think it's fair to make an effort to write a coherent review about it. The author certainly didn't put in any effort while throwing up this story. But then I wanted to read something REALLY bad to help me appreciate other books I'm currently reading. Mission accomplished.
