2 - "You can't save me, no one can"... Stars.
Sadly I wasn’t blown away by her Special Forces. It had all the attributes that I am looking for in a Romantic Suspense novel, but I found the plot to be over filled with excess and unnecessary plot-points and a huge array of characters.
Add to that, the writing is a little mish-mashed between up-to-date and outdated, and it didn’t quite pass muster.
His roused cock, ships mast tall and anchor hard.
At points, I almost felt like I was reading a book that had been written 20 years ago, but has then been revamped for present day. The sex for the most part is dirty-hot, but when the Nate started using terms such as dear heart and pretty lady with regards to Kacey, I felt like we had regressed back to the days of Gone With the Wind and John Wayne, Westerns!
Nathan, take me away from the bad things. Deliver me from the dead. Deliver me from evil, amen.
Slightly dated writing, and over-full plot aside, the basis of this story is sound and the tropes used proven winners. The characters were likeable, and although some of the antics went a little beyond the realms of believability - 11 year old Gemma immediately springs to mind for that one!
I liked the flashbacks to when Kacey was still in the Marines and Nate still a SEAL, it gave their relationship an added depth, especially when Kacey struggled to deal with her issues. It was good too see the PTSD aspect from a female point of view as well. All in all, it was readable… I am not sure I would class it as memorable though.
Each to their own, and if you are looking for a sexy, fast-paced, romantic suspense novel, then you may want to give Her Special Forces a try.

Romantic suspense with former Navy SEAL and marines is one to pick up. If you enjoy Maya Banks' KGI Series, this book is for you.
Kacey O'Donnell is a retired marine pilot. She's returned to an empty home. As she continues to try to adjust to civilian life, she's called in by a family friend to help in a kidnapping extraction. She must turn to a former lover for help. Nothing about the situation is easy.
What I liked most about this books is how Ms. Roslyn shows great respect for our armed forces. The realities of PTSD is sad because these are tough warriors who are taught to show no weakness. Whilst their body may endure extreme hardship, the mind hits a point where it will break. Without support, healing is difficult. Ms. Roslyn shows the impacts of PTSD on family, friends and the person silently suffering from it.
The characters in this book are fabulous. The character interactions in this story is great because they play off each other so well. Even the secondary characters are unique and memorable. The descriptions of locations and how each character respond are done so well they play like a movie in the reader's mind. The story is action packed with fighting and loving.
Kacey is an anomaly. She is a rich only child yet she is not spoiled. In fact, she's raised the way people of power with ethics should be raised. She understands responsibility and she doesn't believe she's above the law. Her commitment to save others is commendable. She's the type of person who inspires others to be a better person. Even the strongest person need someone to lean on. Kacey's family support is gone with the last of her relatives dying. Kacey is just trying to make it through the day by going through the motions. When Nathan, her former lover, slides into town, it wakes her back up.
Nathan is a fixer. He wants to make things better. He also wants to know why his hot love affair with Kacey vaporized before he could take it to the next level. The Kacey he finds in the quiet town is far different than the one who left him behind. Nathan is determined to figure out why and win Kacey back into his life.
The plot of this story is rather simple. The reader easily guesses within the first couple of chapters what is going on with the kidnapping. In addition, figuring out the villain and why they have the daughter of a U.S. Senator kidnapped is easy. What makes this story so good is the bonding between Kacey and Nathan. The bonds of friendship between Kacey and the former SEAL team members Nathan brings together also adds a lovely layer. The eleven-going-to-twelve year old girl almost steals the show. She's a spunky girl who is mature for her age.
The dialogue in this story is pleasurable to read. Ms. Roslyn does an excellent job of balancing between moving scenes, serious discussion and snarky humour. There are many times where I burst out laughing after a serious scene. The timing is just right. What is also nice is the fact that none of these characters are perfect. They show their flaws to each other and it's okay. They are accepted for who they are, even when they are not at their best. This is a touching story made stronger through love. Recommended for romantic suspense readers who love their dinged-up heroines finding their happily ever after. -

A military suspense novel with more than a few twists..
Sophia Roslyn brings modern day issue to this fabulous sub series! In today's world we face issues never before faced. In our wars.. it's no longer man vs man. There are brave women who fight those same battles. Side by side with their brothers in arms. Causing them to face the same hardships and consequences and sadly a few more than the men have to face. Sophia Roslyn shares with us the story of just one woman and the man who loves her.
Kacey O’Donnell has fought her battles and retired from the military but the war wouldn't leave her alone. Nightmares are the least of her problems. Not only did she run from the man that held her heart she is now running from her memories and suffering severely from PTSD. Literally running on nothing but her strength of character. When her lover finds her and refuses to give up on them Kacey no longer even has the mental ability to deal with him. But when a phone call comes asking her to pull a team together and extract a kidnapped little girl Kacey manages to pretend that she can function.
Nathan Weatherly was on a mission when Kacey disappeared, or rather left the service and him behind. But he refused to accept that it was over. Transferring to her hometown as a deputy sheriff as soon as his tour of duty was over, Nathan is sure he can bring them back together. But when he sees how much she is suffering he is almost lost. Unsure how to deal with such trauma.. And when he is asked to help Kacey find a team and save this wonderful little girl Nathan knows all personal agendas must be put aside. If only life were that easy.
A tough book.. Kacey and Nathan have to fight to find their way back to each other. There was never an issue of lacking love but rather, in Kacey's case an issue of not believing in it anymore. She has lost too much too fast and just can't seem to function.
To see PTSD from a female perspective was raw.. emotionally devastating and incredibly powerful! It's a modern day issue faced by today's woman and made what could have been a good military suspense book into a great one!
Fabulously done! I can't wait to hear more from Ms Roslyn.

I had been sort of enjoying this, although as I said in my comments while reading it, despite the use of nautical terms where no nautical term should be, or the constant oh so vague and mysterious references to something having happened in their past, that they both seem to know about so why what exactly happened has to remain a mystery to the reader is beyond me, and really should just be mentioned so I can feel anything for either character, especially the heroine, who is quite clearly suffering from PTSD, but we have no notion why.
But something just put me right off, and it was this:
In talking about an 11 year old child, and her kidnappers not having returned her despite a ransom having been made, the FBI dude says "Track with me for a moment. Gemma Mansfield is a very pretty eleven year old Caucasian girl. I hate to be crass, but, at her age, under everyone's watchful eye, let's assume she's still a virgin".....while discussing this fact and that her kidnappers will be spiriting her away to sell her as a highly valuable virgin.
So, not at all suggesting the kidnappers might have done something to her, oh no, suggesting that as the daughter of a high profile man, she is so closely watched, she has not what? at 11 years old gone off the rails and started sleeping around? If she was less watched and not the daughter of a rich important man, you could not safely assume she would still be a virgin at 11??
I just do not think the author has thought well enough here about what she is suggesting! It is just a very lazy way of writing something that she has not considered at all how it would be interpreted - but if you want to touch upon a sensitive issue (ie child trafficking!), then you handle it with care imo - not so clumsily it has a reader stopping and thinking "what!?" Very awkward and off putting.
I put the book down, re read an old favourite and to be perfectly honest and have inclination to pick this book up again and finish it at his time. -
I am partial to a military romance and this enticed as it's twofold; we have an ex-SEAL and an ex-Marine. Add in the factor that they are ex-lovers and are thrown back together to rescue the daughter of a Senator who's been kidnapped and I was enticed.
On the whole it was an OK read. I liked Kacey and my heart went out to her and I liked Nathan although some of his speech was way beyond his years (my man is in his 40's and I don't recall him ever calling me my dear!). And whilst there is some satisfying sexy time between them, some phrases caused a childish snigger or two to pop out; the moment is crushed when you read the words deep baby-making penetration. It could've flowed better I felt.
But, they have chemistry, Nathan watches out for Kacey, there is some great banter between the SEALs and as far-fetched as some of her actions were for her age Gemma was a strong likeable kid.
There were parts I loved and parts I disliked. I certainly wouldn't recommend against reading, it was just an average read for me. 2.5 stars.

Ramblings from this Chick
I’m always on the lookout for new-to-me authors to add to my growing list of must-reads, and as a huge fan of military romantic suspense, erotic romance author Sophia Roslyn’s HER SPECIAL FORCES caught my eye with its retired Marine heroine, former Navy SEAL hero, kidnapped kid, and promise for scorching sexytimes. Whilst it possesses all the attributes I look for in a military or RS novel and is an emotionally challenging read with its raw, no-holds-barred take on the emotional and psychological aftermath of war—uniquely dealing with how PTSD affects women in combat—I wasn’t particularly blown away by it. The protagonists are (for the most part) well developed, with a compelling emotional arc, and the love scenes are frequent, hot, and poignant, but the plot feels like an afterthought rather than a driver to complement and ratchet up the emotional tension and the writing is a bit disjointed. Probably just the growing pains of an author on only her sophomore novel, but they turned what could’ve been a great read into simply an average one for me.
Heroine Kacey O’Donnell, U.S. Marine Corps Viper attack helicopter pilot (now retired), is back in her idyllic small New Hampshire hometown after a bitch of a last deployment in Afghanistan drove her to take a leave from the Marines: an off-base night of passion with sexy Navy SEAL Captain Nathan Weatherly immediately followed by an incident during a mission that downs her helicopter and kills her co-pilot/gunner and the news of her parents’ deaths stateside. At a crossroads in her life and with Nathan and his team having gone wheels up the moment they were back on base, there’s naught for Kacey to do but return to Winterpine alone and try to adjust to civilian life. But the memories won’t leave her alone and she’s neither eating nor sleeping and is merely going through the motions of existing rather than living. A textbook case of PTSD, but she’s unwilling to admit it or seek help and instead tries to push everyone away—especially former lover Nathan, who follows her to Winterpine after putting in his 20 years with the Navy. Kacey’s struggles are emotionally draining (in a good way) for the reader, and it’s refreshing to see this heartbreaking issue from a woman’s perspective, but her behaviour—especially toward Nathan—makes it challenging to like her. For the bulk of the novel, we know she has issues and witness her conscious attempts to sabotage her chance at happiness, but we don’t know why. It’s not until the very end that she finally opens up to Nathan and we learn the whole story and can finally genuinely empathize with and understand her and the strength she truly possesses.
Nathan is also a mixed bag of a character. For the most part, he’s the typical super sexy Navy SEAL alpha male with a badass edge, mile-wide protective streak, and unwavering sense of honour. His conviction that Kacey loves him as much as he does her—despite ditching him in Afghanistan and doing her best to shut him out and reduce their relationship to nothing but sex—and his commitment to helping her come to terms with, and get through, her PTSD is heartwarming. He’s the type of bloke you’d take home to meet mum, and I genuinely liked him… but half the time his speech made him seem like an anachronism. There’s simply no way a forty-something retired Navy SEAL speaks like that (to his woman; his banter with his SEAL mates was typical bromance), and it was definitely a bit jarring. The chemistry between him and Kacey sizzles and the love scenes are super hot, and the fact that they don’t have an easy go of it had me rooting for their HEA.
The plot is where it all falls rather flat. A Senator’s 11-year-old daughter kidnapped from her bed, an elite FBI six-man CARD team taken out during the attempted rescue, a hastily-cobbled-together backup team of former SEALs plus a Marine helicopter pilot… it has all the makings of an action-packed, white-knuckle thrill ride of a plot but doesn’t really deliver. The focus is primarily on Kacey and Nathan and the plot feels like a backdrop for them to have something to do in addition to being mired in relationship angst. The kidnapped girl, Gemma, is completely unrealistic—an 11-year-old who can drive, fly, speak a bit of Russian, and doesn’t completely freak out after being kidnapped and rescued? Come on!—but if you suspend all disbelief, she’s great fun and brings out a side of Kacey and Nathan that we wouldn’t otherwise see. I guessed the identity of the villain pretty early on (but I read a LOT of suspense!), but Ms. Roslyn throws in enough twists to keep it interesting… I just wish she’d devoted a bit more time to fleshing out the story to give it more substance.
HER SPECIAL FORCES was an enjoyable enough read for me—nothing to write home about, but not something I actively disliked either. It’s an intensely emotional read with a lot of heart cloaked in a thin suspense plot and a good choice for readers who like erotic romances with a good amount of angst and a hint of action.

This is the first Sophia Roslyn book I've read, also the first Ignite book I've come across from Entangled. I'm not much of a fan of military romance, but I'm a big fan of badass couples, so the synopsis intrigued me a little bit, since the characters are a marine and a seal.
But then, upon reading the first few pages, I just thought-- Man, this book is dragging. It was just blah. Kacey O'Donnell, a 'retired' Marine Viper helo pilot finds herself face to face with her former lover, Nathan Weatherly who is a former SEAL - He's in her town as the new deputy sheriff and he's determined to get her back. But she won't let him, or so she says...
As I had expected badass couples, I did not enjoy the characters much. Kacey, no matter how badass she is and as much as I love redheads, she isn't exactly a lovable character. She's hardheaded, stubborn and a total pain in the ass. Her character gets somewhat annoying within the push and pull game she plays with Nathan. She hates him, she hates him not. Make up your mind girl?
Meanwhile, Nathan Weatherly...He's every girl's dream, the guy who will take care of you, watch over you and fend for you. He knows he's ready for a life with Kacey and he's ready to help her no matter what, despite his former lifestyle, being all hard edged and protective. His conviction that Kacey really is the love of his life is definitely what made me like him.
But Kacey's an independent bitch, despite her personal problems including her PTSD, and she thinks she doesn't need a sweetheart like Nathan in her life.
But the whole plot, it seemed that everything just revolved around them. A senator's eleven year old daughter was kidnapped, a ten million dollar ransom, an FBI team wiped out and now it's up to Kacey, Nathan and his former troops to rescue her. It's action packed and quite thrilling, but everything still revolved around Kacey and Nathan's relationship angst.
What bothered me was the child, Gemma. She's eleven, or rather "turning twelve". And she can drive because she's "too tall for her age". In fact, her character is nothing close to realistic. I don't have against kids who can drive, but the fact that she did not feel any terror or fright upon being kidnapped was not normal at all. Sure, she hates her dad, and as if she doesn't give a care about the slightest mention of her dad, but a normal kid would definitely look for and need home.
However, despite her character's unrealistic manner, she sure intrigued me, and I'm hoping to read an upcoming series about her all grown up.
Another thing that bothered me about the book was the language used to write it. At one point, I thought I was reading a medieval/historic romance novel. Then there's the mention of WiFi and TV cable, then I suddenly remember that I'm supposed to be reading a book set on the 21st century.
This book was just not my cup of tea. My review may seem negative but I've read a couple of reviews that did enjoy this read. Not everybody is entitled to have the same preferences.

Ok, I really like military stories, I don’t know what is it about them, but I just really like them. Particularly when it’s the leading lady the one involve in it. This book had all of that and more, so I was really expecting to love it. Sadly, I merely liked it, at best.
I loved Kacey. She was strong, independent, smart, and flew helicopters in war zones for a living. How cool is that? She also had a lot of issues, particularly PTSD, which she didn’t even admit to herself . So we knew there was a long way to go for her. What I didn’t like was the fact that she kept pushing Nathan away, over and over and over again. I got where she was coming from, but come on, woman!
I liked Nathan as well. I liked that he never gave up on Kacey, even when she pushed him away 36372732 times. That fact also made me dislike him a bit, lol. I mean, have some self-respect, man. Kacey was very cruel at times to him (I really wanted to slap her), and he just took it. I got it, but much like Kacey, come on, man!
There are several sex scenes between Kacey and Nathan, that I thought were hot; however, I had to skip some of those due to some unfortunate choice of words (to me, at least). I don’t know, they felt awkward and out of place, which made the scene felt awkward (like the word ‘channel’ and ‘rod’). I’m just not a fan of those, lol. There were also parts that felt like I was reading a sex scene from a story taking place in another time and place. It was very odd, tbh.
There were also things that felt unrealistic to me (I know, I know, this is fiction); in particular, Gemma. How could I believe that an 11 y/o could drive not only cars but also helicopters? Not professionally or anything, but still. It was way too convenient in this case, which I guess was the point. She also acted too composed for someone who was kidnapped and to be sold for prostitution outside of the US. Yeah, she didn’t know that last part, and I could blame her togetherness to the adrenaline of the rescue, but after that, nothing happened. Like being kidnapped and rescued was just weekend thing. I guess people react differently to different situations, so maybe it was that.
I also liked the side characters, but aside from the doctor and the FBI agent, no one stood out to me much.
As for the writing. This is tricky, I didn’t think it was bad, but it felt choppy from time to time, like maybe I was missing a scene or something. Sometimes the story jumped from one scene to another and I wasn’t sure if Kacey was doing what the next scene was showing or if she was just remembering doing it, kwim? Because she was so all over the place due to her PTSD, maybe that’s the reason her POV felt a bit disjoint? I don’t know.
Anyway, I would say overall the story is entertaining, there is drama, action, romance, lots of things to keep you interested. I just felt this could’ve been more, perhaps cleaner? Beside the choppiness, there was also a lot going on with this characters.
Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC in exchange for my honest opinion. -

I'm really liking military romances at the moment so I was excited to start Her Special Forces as not only did it have SEALs in it, but there was also a female helicopter pilot. I was interested to see how that developed because it's not something I've come across before. I think, overall I did enjoy this book. However, I did have to suspend my beliefs a lot and use my imagination to fill in some blanks along the way.
I liked the plot as a whole and it has potential to be a lot more, I just feel as it stands now, it's not as good as it could be. For me there needs to be more substance to it. For a military book, I like to read the action but in this book it was missed out totally. There were a few sentences and then everything was resolved, which was disappointing. As well as this I wanted more details into Kacey's PTSD and how it was affecting her. It seemed there was a lot of description during sex scenes but the rest of the novel lacked that development and I think it would be a great book if the level of detail continued throughout.
I did like Kace, though--even if we don't learn much about her PTSD. She was strong and determined, but she also had a good sense of right and wrong. I liked her temper and how she opened up to Nathan in the end. Kacey was definitely one of the best part about this book. I found her easy to connect to and feel for. I also liked how their romance wasn't simple and did have its complications. It's not the most original but I still love books with this kind of thing in.
I do wish I could say the same for Nathan. I liked him a lot but there was one thing about him led me to not believe in his character: his speech. For a retired SEAL, I felt his speech was very feminine and he needed to be toughened up a bit. Some of the phrases he used just made me laugh as I couldn't picture this strong alpha-male saying them--they were too weak. Moreover, some other characters for me were unrealistic. An 11 year old who can fly, drive, speak some Russian (conveniently), not go to pieces when kidnapped but instead remember every tiny detail and count songs to estimate distance? I just didn't buy it. Maybe a few of those things but not all of them.
Despite those things, I liked the narrative woven around them. I did figure out who was behind everything very early on but there were still some twists at the end I didn't see coming. I liked that although the kidnappers' motives were obvious there were a few secrets I didn't see coming. I also liked how Kacey didn't reveal everything until the end.
Overall, despite its flaws, I still found myself enjoying this book. It may not be the best military romance out there but it had me hooked and glued to the pages until the end. -
When I saw this book on Netgalley, something about the cover drew me in. Then finding out that the female protagonist was a retired Marine pilot brought back in for a special assignment it sounded uber-exciting. When you add in the reunited lovers bit, I knew I had to get it.
The story opens on Kacey O'Donnell. She is doing her daily run through town, heading to stop and grab two coffees and danish before making her way to the local sheriff's office for their usual morning chit chat. But when she stops in, she runs into the lover she left behind in Afghanistan. Kacey hadn't been expecting to see him, and with his arrival, she panics and flees for home.
When Nathan Weatherly got a call that Kacey seemed to not be handling her retirement well just as his time to re-up was presented, he knew it was time to head after his former lover. Luckily for him, their mutual friend had fallen in love with the small town life that Kacey had described and settled there as the new local doctor. He had known Nathan and Kacey meant something to each other, so he kept an eye on her for Nathan. Nathan has accepted a job with the Sheriff's office and means to court Kacey and pick up where they left off.
However, before they can begin to explore their feelings, a Senator's daughter is kidnapped and the special team sent in to retrieve her found murdered. With the possibility of a mole somewhere in the investigation, the FBI turn to Kacey and Nathan to gather up the other recently out SEALs and stage a rescue.
Can I just say, Amazing. This book was so good. It had a bit of all my favorites: Romance, Action, Intrigue, Suspense, Mystery with some good ole fashioned Butt Kicking going on. I was very impressed with the author's handling of PTSD and how it affects different people in different ways. I truly hope this is the beginning of a series, since I totally want to know more about the other members of the team now and maybe get some follow up on Kacey and Nathan. Great Read, 4 stars. -

1.5*
I actually really liked the first chapter or so and had high hopes for this book.
Then Nathan/Kacey started having a lot of sex and the way those scenes were written made me simultaneously laugh and cringe. For example:
Hands lewdly fondled, then lifted, her ass. He’d settled the gateway of her womanhood over his cockhead, slowly lowering her onto his shaft.
“Omigod, Nathan, oh baby, yesss—” Her words had ended in a passionate hiss.
+
He slammed into her one last time, stiffened, then she felt him pulsing inside, his cockhead jammed so tightly against the mouth of her womb that it caused her pain. If she could get pregnant, he definitely would have just
done the deed. The notion brought forth another round of throbs as her sex responded to his deep, baby-making
penetration.
And all the pet names for each other: dear, sweetheart, and my absolute favourite dear heart seemed out of place, especially since they had only slept together once before and really didn't know each other that well. I was so tired of the Nathan/Kacey as a whole, especially at the end where he kept pushing and she kept pushing him away and yet he just kept coming back ....
Onto the plot itself .... weak. And Gemma, wow Gemma. Say hello to the world's first superhuman 11 year-old. She doesn't blink twice at being abducted and then rescued by a near-death Marine in danger of plummeting them both to their death. She can patch up a dying woman, drive a car cross-country, understand Russian, remember a multitude of little details that adult eye-witnesses wouldn't be able to .... get my drift? It wasn't remotely believable. A bit like everything else in this book.

With a young girls life in danger it will take a special team to work under the radar to save her in this thrilling romance. Kacey helps Nathan pull his team together for one last assignment. But she finds it next to impossible to work with Nathan again – especially when she knows he wants so much more – and she has so much to hide.
This fast paced and smooth flowing plot keeps readers on the edge of their seat with action, suspense, drama, passion and romance. The author brings the story to life with well written scenes and details that capture the imagination and well orchestrated action and suspense draw the reader deeper into the story. The characters are strong, compelling and easily related to and the emotional drama ensures that the reader really gets to know the characters.
The attraction between Kacey and Nathan is obviously extremely hot from the very beginning and the sex scenes scorch the reader with vibrant and fiery intensity, but Kacey and Nathan are not on the same page when it comes to the relationship. The reader can’t help but get caught up in all the emotional drama that surrounds the couple and Kacey captures the heart and the admiration of the readers with her strong self reliant but very stubborn personality and she refuses to share her dark secret, but Nathan knows that she needs help and he is determined to find a way to help her which warms the hearts of the readers.
Spine tingling tension builds throughout the story as the suspense and danger escalates and the author throws readers for a loop with some surprising developments that adds to the excitement. I don’t know if the author is planning on more books concerning these characters, but she certainly set things up for it and created lots of curiosity with the captivating supporting characters in this story. -
I truly enjoy novels such as these and once I pick them up can not stand to put them down until I see what is next and how it all turns out. The unique thing about this one is it centers around a female this time when usually it is the other way around. Retired seems to be going around in this town when several friends that were in special forces end up there. But then again retired does not always mean you won't ever do it again either. Kacey former Marine Viper helo pilot is there thanks largely to having been the last remaining living person in her family after deaths brings her home one last time. Also suffering from after affects of said profession that she has not dealt with has others worried. Nathan retiring from the Seals comes to be the new Deputy Sheriff and when these two run into each other history might just repeat itself. Bringing them together again though is a kidnapping of a daughter of a US Senator that she gets them all involved in. This is the beginning of a thrilling grab your seat buckle up ride that will be filled with bullets flying. Danger and deceit will also be part of the mix. One of the characters you do so enjoy in this novel will be the daughter herself. Quite the spunky kid with a good head on her shoulders. Too bad though she has such a crappy father in my opinion. The relationship will build also between these two-Kacey and Nathan that you vie will survive her stubbornness. This is certainly a special one you can sink your teeth into especially when they of this nature and well written as this one is. Received a arc for a honest reveiw.

Kacey, a former special forces pilot, is enjoying retirement in her hometown. She has her everyday routines; morning run, coffee and muffins with the local sheriff, and horrible night terrors. Kacey tries to pretend that her time overseas hasn't affected her. But her friends know otherwise. Not only has her military service given her emotional trauma but it also gave her Nathan Weatherly.
Nathan is a former SEAL who is has recently taken a job in Kacey's idyllic hometown. But Kacey is less than pleased to see her former lover. But Navy SEALS are nothing if not persistent. This sets up the cycle of Kacey and Nathan's relationship. Kacey runs but Nathan always follows.
I enjoyed seeing a strong military woman depicted in this novel. Kacey is strong, competent, stubborn, opinionated and wait, did I mention stubborn? She is capable of taking care of business and doesn't need a man to swoop in and save the day. As a matter of fact, she can swoop in with her helicopter and get things done. To quote the great Aretha Franklin, "sisters are doin it for themselves!"
The book is an easy read and pretty predictable. You figure out the bad guys very quickly. Plus the blurb is a little misleading. It mentions some great secret that Kacey holds. Ummm....what secret? You find out within in the first chapter Kacey's problem. I kept waiting for some big, bad horrible thing to emerge. Nope. Didn't happen.
But that being said, if you are looking for a quick read that leaves you with happy feels then I highly recommend this book. Overall I gave it 3 stars for a strong female lead, decent plot, and good writing. -

“Her Special Forces” by Sophia Roslyn is an exciting romantic suspense tale featuring veteran Kacey O’Donnell who is having trouble dealing with the aftermath of her tour of duty as well as the personal tragedy she has also suffered. Her searing connection with SEAL Nathan Weatherly has to be re-evaluated when he finishes his twenty year stint and comes looking for her. Kacey has had plenty of emotional blows in her life and is close to the end of her reserves for coping but she is driven to help search for the kidnapped daughter of a prominent politician, even though she may not be able to handle the additional complications of having Nathan back in her life, especially since he is asking for more than she is willing to give.
This searingly emotional and action-packed story provides an intense and entertaining read. I adore the plucky kidnap victim although I admit that I viewed some of her capabilities with a bit of skepticism and it was heart-wrenching to be reminded of the horrific costs paid by those who are serving on the frontline. There are some fairly stilted phrases used by the characters sometimes but the overall tale is an exciting roller-coaster ride that highlights the camaraderie and loyalty fostered between those who have undergone the specialized training and extreme peril that shape the warriors who put their lives on the line for others. I enjoyed my first introduction to an author new to me and will be on the lookout for other tales that she pens.

Sophia Roslyn’s Her Special Forces has a retired Marine helo pilot who suffers from PTSD as the heroine. Reading about PTSD from a female perspective was something new for me so I was really excited about this book. Unfortunately the story let me down.
Kacey O’Donnell is called out of retirement to assist in extracting the kidnapped daughter of a U.S. Senator. Her former lover, ex-Navy SEAL Nathan Weatherly, has just taken a job as deputy sheriff in Kacey’s small town. He and his former SEAL team also help with rescuing the 11-year old girl.
Ms. Roslyn did a good job bringing Kacey and Nathan back together and showing how their relationship grew. I never doubted Nathan’s love for Kacey, but she drove me crazy with her stubbornness and trust issues. It wasn’t until the final three chapters that we finally got the full story of what Kacey went through and why she had those issues. By then I just did not like her character and I couldn’t find any sympathy for her.
The plot of this book had so much potential, but the details just fell flat. The romance scenes were full of details, but the action scenes were choppy and lacking. There were so many secondary characters I wanted to know more about, and I felt like Ms. Roslyn missed a great opportunity to expand on the story by not telling the reader more about those characters. -
I love a good military romance! Especially one with a cocky, sexy Navy SEAL. Even better when it has a kick-ass heroine and she's a U.S.M.C. Super Viper attack helicopter pilot. Nathan and Kacey were all each other needed at one point. Then circumstances sent them in different directions. Nathan left on assignment and Kacey went home. Now they're both out of the military and he's come to her little town to claim the woman he loves. He's also there to help her try and deal with her PTSD. He doesn't realize that when you have PTSD, not all your thoughts are rational and you can't be coerced into getting help. She'll have to come to that realization all on her own.
This is a fantastic military romance that deals with the issue of PTSD. There is much more happening in this story, so you'll have to read it to find out what happens to the U.S. Senator's daughter who's been kidnapped. There are moments where all you can do is "gasp" at the story you're reading. It's an awesome read! I look forward to reading more from this amazing author.

This was a very intensely emotional book. Kacey dealing with PTSD at the same time of completing a mission. Nathan there to help her. The first two chapters of the book are smoking hot. To have that kind of connection, Wow! I loved the way Nathan always had Kacey's back. I loved the camaraderie of all the SEALs in this book as I am sure they are in real life too. Would love to have more of their stories maybe in future books. Gemma was
a true surprise in her character. So strong and brave for such a young girl. Her story as an adult would be superb.
Kacey had so much loss at once that you just wanted to hug her. And Nathan loved her so much and wanted to protect her, comfort her that you wanted to smack some sense into Kacey. Great story with lots of heart.

Kacey is a Marine Helo pilot who has returned home after her tour after some major happenings in her life. Her helo crashed while over seas, and her parent were killed in a plane crash. She doesn't have any family and doesn't want to realize that she is suffering from PTSD. She met Nathan on base. He is a steamy SEAL team leader and they have one steamy night off base. When Nathan gets back from an op he finds out she is gone. He follows her to the sleepy little town in New Hampshire and has a heck of a time to convince Kacey that they are good together. In addition to that they are off to rescue a senators kidnapped daughter.
A great book with some suspense and a great romance all tied in together.
I was provided a copy of this book for my honest opinion. -
Great story, I hope it turns into a series because these characters and secondary characters are all awesome. Would love more HEA's. Loved Kacey and Nathan together, their sex is off the charts, hot as hell..scorching. Especially in the woods! (Fanning self). The story was fast paced, action packed, emotional and more. I would have liked it a little longer, more indepth with PTSD with Jeffrey but I thought it was very well written, great descriptions. Love Gemma she was one tough girl, kick butt, not afraid, sweet and just wonderful kid. Loved Dr Jonah too. All great characters. I enjoyed this story very much. Can't wait for more by this author and hopefully these characters. They all rock and are all bad ass's. 4 to 4.5 stars review by Nanee at upallnightreadallday.blogspot.com

Take a good military action read and add a bit of romance and I am hooked. Doesn't hurt to have some serious eye candy on the front cover either. Seriously. Hot. I loved that our heroine was a kick ass action hero. So much so that they brought her out of retirement to get the job done. She enlists her ex and his team to work this assignment which put them in close quarters making her face her feelings for him and that secret she doesn't want him to find out. I am thinking that your ex moves to where you grew up, he just might not want to be an ex anymore. This isn't a story about lost love, but more about the loss of belief in it. It's about working through PTSD and letting love in again.
I give Her Special Forces 4 hearts! -
Retired helo pilot Kacey had it all when she was in the Marines. Navy SEAL Nathan Weatherly was her lover since their paths crossed on assignments. After being called home and retiring, Kacey has to deal with everything that led her to leave and retire from a job she loved to help the FBI find and rescue a kidnapped daughter of a State Senator.
Nate is now done and hoping to rekindle what they had while overseas. She wants nothing to do with him.
It's a battle of wills to stay alive, keep the girl from falling into the wrong hands, and find out who keeps selling them out. Add the fun loving Navy SEAL team and sexual chemistry brings you on a fun ride. -
Did not finish – stopped about 35-40% into the book.
I love military romances, so that meant that I really wanted to like this book, I ended up putting it down and did not finish reading it. The first part of the book is choppy and feels like it is missing some parts that hold the story together. Feels like you are missing out on something while reading it and left me feeling lost at times. I will try to go back and read this book again at another time, because I really don't like not reading a book all the way to the end.

DNR at 28%. I am a huge fan of military romances and the like but honestly while I wanted to like this I ended up putting it down. I'll try and come back to it again some day but for now the first quarter of this book is choppy, feels to be missing parts, or at least back story and mainly sex with about zero substance.
I received this as a complimentary e-copy via Netgalley in exchange for a honest review and I am quite sad I cannot provide a full review but with my lack of connection and all around flat line response decided to cut it short. -

Her Special Forces by Sophia Roslyn had such an intriguing name, synopsis, and prologue, but it wasn't what I expected.
I Did Not Finish Her Special Forces. I didn't like how the story unfolded. It weighed too heavy on the romance side with too little suspense in the beginning,

This was a disappointing .... I found myself skipping through some pages
Kacey was really annoying ... I did Not like her and to be honest, as often as she really hurt Nate I was surprised he was sticking around. And the Plot could have been Good but there was much more potential in it
