If You Forget Me Reviews

First of all, poetry isn't my thing but Neruda's beauty and stunning language bring me the pleasure of being touched by great art.
When i recited it the movie start playing in my head and bring me a lovely and romantic memory i never had,
yet.
It feels like summer that came with joy and then leave me a loneliness hole.
But i wouldn't mind because I'm in love with you, i really do.
And lasting last i'm telling you that starting from now, I'm officially love poetry. What a beautiful work of art! -
"If You Forget Me"
By Pablo Neruda
I want you to know
one thing.
You know how this is:
if I look
at the crystal moon, at the red branch
of the slow autumn at my window,
if I touch
near the fire
the impalpable ash
or the wrinkled body of the log,
everything carries me to you,
as if everything that exists,
aromas, light, metals,
were little boats
that sail
toward those isles of yours that wait for me.
Well, now,
if little by little you stop loving me
I shall stop loving you little by little.
If suddenly
you forget me
do not look for me,
for I shall already have forgotten you.
If you think it long and mad,
the wind of banners
that passes through my life,
and you decide
to leave me at the shore
of the heart where I have roots,
remember
that on that day,
at that hour,
I shall lift my arms
and my roots will set off
to seek another land.
But
if each day,
each hour,
you feel that you are destined for me
with implacable sweetness,
if each day a flower
climbs up to your lips to seek me,
ah my love, ah my own,
in me all that fire is repeated,
in me nothing is extinguished or forgotten,
my love feeds on your love, beloved,
and as long as you live it will be in your arms
without leaving mine. -
This is exactly the kind of poetry that I adore. I'm so glad I discovered this.

I have read this poem before! I LOVE this poem! How did I forget I did (ironic, given the title haha)! This is literally one of my favourite poems - I’m so glad I found it again!! The title looked so familiar, and then as I kept reading I just- AHH!!
No review. No need! This poem speaks to me; that is all. -
Personal Response: This one caught my eye because I thought it was going to be about a one-sided love story sort of thing. I also thought it would be longer, but it was neither of these things.
Plot: The narrator starts by explaining how his love is like the moon or a glowing fire, that his love for the person he is referring to burns brightly. The poem darkens slightly when he says that, should the one he loves forget about him, he will forget about her. He brightens up again as he says that if she will accept him, he will love her forever.
Characterization: It begins off happy, but you get the feeling that he is one of those people that will hurt the person he loves to force them to love him back, but it's not. He only says that if she forgets him, he will forget her.
Recommendation: I would recommend this to teens to adults, 15-40 or so, who enjoy love stories and short poetry. -

This recording is a part of the original soundtrack of the Italian film Il Postino (an adaptation of Antonio Skarmeta's short novel) released in 1995. -
I don’t know why I like this poem so much
-
This poetry speaks honesty. It rarely occurs to some to speak truth about relationships.

Gotta admits that this poem was super fun and interesting to read.
Of course this poem has the generic plot for poems which are about love. However it has a different take on it which I really enjoyed and it is what it made it unique.
The writing style was super fun and it was super interesting and really made an amazing mix together with the plot. The author of this poem uses beauty and stunning language which makes it really amazing. -
Pablo Neruda kan noget helt særligt med sproget. Jeg har altid været vild med hans digte!
