Life has held nothing but pain and guilt for Susannah Walsh since her children died in an accident and her marriage fell apart. When a friend offers her a vacation house in Maine for some relaxation, she thinks it’s the perfect chance to escape from her grim reality—for good.

But fate has other plans for Susannah. Shortly after she reaches the retreat, she’s attacked and knocked unconscious, only to wake in the bed of a handsome but unfriendly stranger. As it turns out, her troubles have just begun, for the year is 1905…

Adrian Sinclair doesn’t know what to make of the distressed woman he saved from a raging storm. Her speech and clothing are odd, her behavior is very impertinent, and most peculiarly, she claims to be from the future. But when his withdrawn son, Corey, quickly bonds with the woman, he agrees to let her stay at his family’s estate.

As Susannah gets to know the Sinclairs, she finds herself passionately attracted to Adrian and powerfully drawn to Corey. Can a woman with no future change her fate in the past? Or will the dangerous secrets lurking at Blue Hill Manor turn deadly?

My feelings about this story are mixed. It is well written but parts of it dragged for me. Neither the mystery nor the romance wrapped up as neatly as I would have liked; I felt like there were bits left unexplained. Still, the author constructed the story well enough to keep me turning the pages, so there’s that. I don’t think I can recommend it to anyone else, though.

Only a Time Will Tell by Suzanne Hoos, came to me in a twist of fate, which describes the theme of this book perfectly. From the first paragraph, I was hooked! The author's descriptive writing allows the reader to immediately feel connected to and experience life as the main character, Susannah Walsh. I was able to feel Susannah's deep despair as she contemplated an end to her existence after the untimely deaths of her children and recent divorce. Then through a twist of fate, Susannah finds herself in the year 1905, in the middle of a Victorian soap-opera that is the Sinclair family. After the shock of the era wears off a bit, Susannah discovers a new life, filled with love and happiness with Adrian Sinclair and his son, Corey. Though the Sinclair family is the epitome of a dysfunctional one, Susannah and Adrian both get a second chance at love with one another. However, Susannah eventually realizes that the many Sinclair family secrets may be dangerous enough to destroy their new happiness. I could not put this book down. There were surprises and twists around every corner! The author achieves greatness in this book! I can't wait to read others by her.

A time travel romance; a fictional story or not? How many times have we found ourselves in a romance and wondered “how they hell did I get here?” “How the hell can I get back to my life?” “Why the hell do I want to go back to my life?” Reminiscent of Jane Eyre, in this time travel journey, author Suzanne Hoos humorous approach to this conundrum had me laughing out loud at times. This book blew me away in that it surprised me and I am not easily surprised. At then end of certain chapters, I would literally gasp…WHAT? There were more twists and turns in this story than an episode of the television show Scandal. The author grabbed me from the first chapter and the romantic roller coaster ride began tormenting my romantic sensibilities in the spirit of Jane Eyre; Gone with the Wind and Sex & The City and did not stop until the last chapter with “OMG I didn’t see that coming!” It was magical!

Suzanne Hoos has done it again! An absolute writing inspiration of mine, Hoos creates a world where her characters truly do come alive. Engaging plots, relatable characters and vivid settings make Only Time Will Tell a novel that is hard to put down. While Susannah - the story’s heroine- faces harsh realities in her modern life - she ultimately learns (with the help of a little time travel) that love conquers all. Truly one of my favorites - I am absolutely putting it in my reread pile!

This is a fascinating tale of the macabre that follows Suzanne from wanting to die, to wanting nothing other than to live her life to the fullest in spite of her previous loss.
