Charmed: Season 10, Volume 1 Reviews
-
This had even quicker pace than the previous season.
And, it also made me realize why I haven't been enjoying the graphic novels as much as the TV show.
Season 9 and 10 usually have some time pass between issues, so you're not following a story anymore, more like the most important demonic occurrences.
Apart from that, there is the mystery of In the TV show, we were always in the sisters' secrets and lives, but in the comics we apparently only care about demons and fights.
And, that's what's majorly disconnecting me from the latter. -
I have to say that there were a couple of time jumps that kind of got me confused as to what was happening but overall the story was compelling and interesting. Issue #5 is probably my favourite issue so far (there are no real favourites but I just like the story line in that one). They have introduced the concept of the Old Ones which sounds like it could make for an interesting arch. Also, excited to find out what the heck is going on with.....

I'm starting to feel a little less like "coming home" and more like I'm into something new. I think the plotline is still similar to how Charmed used to go, but I feel like the script - maybe? - isn't completely like how the sisters talk. I mean, Piper's snarky, Paige is sarcastic, and Phoebe's just sweet. I don't get these feelings always, and so much "deep" speech bubbles... I really don't know. They were never this "deep" all the time.
Anywho.
So there you go. Just a random small recap. I feel like I'm literally watching episodes and discussing them after. So cool. lol -
I have a love / hate relationship with Charmed. I read the Season 9 comics and they were okay, nothing mind blowing. The reviews I saw for this were good, so I had to pick up a copy and read. SPOILERS AHEAD JUST SAYING -> I didn't like the artwork. Shannon Doherty didn't give the rights for Charmed to use her likeness, so "Prue" is a blonde haired woman who is covered in tattoos. The story line is also riddled with plot holes and doesn't really connect to the television show. Cole is back? I know he was in the Season 9 comic but why is he still in the story? Also, Coop aggravates me. The story line ended in a cliffhanger. I don't care, I won't be buying volume 2.
I was being generous giving this 2 stars. -
Loving the art!

Mini review time! This one picks up relatively soon after the finale of season 9. Some big things happen to the main characters--some of which I'm surprised about--which made the seriousness of the Charmed Ones' situation more clear. Ultimately I feel like the event wasn't as emotional as it could have been because all my feelings on it had been spent long ago. I hadn't gotten back to feeling a connection, so it kind of fell flat for me.
I really liked the final chapter in this volume because it introduced what will become the big bad for this season. I thought that the plot of this one followed a line that was clearer than some of the last volumes in season 9, so I hope that continues because it makes the series as a whole more enjoyable. -
I got access to ths volume, unfortunately, I don't have access to the prior volume. That being said, Prue being back seems hella weird, especially as she seems to be living the loniest life one can imagine. Did they get into why the sisters are treating her like a pariah, or is this something to be further explored?
These characters don't do it for me like the original Halliwell sisters did, but, it's nice to get back into this world once again -
Okay. Not as big a fan of this volume as I want to be. I will say that issue 5 got me mad emotional and I wasn't ready for that at all. Still processing it honestly.
Think I'm going to take a break here and get to the remaining volumes next month unless someone wants to buddy read them with me sooner. -
Ugghh Yes
This one broke my heart. But I loved it, still. I am, of course, ready for the next volume. My diehard-Charmed-fan self is loving the continuation. Loving even more that it's in comic form. This is a big, broken yes from me. -
This one was both good and not. It may just be me having a bad day making it kind of me, but if I didn't already have a relationship to the story, I wouldn't have liked this at all.
Honestly, it felt a little like it was missing something, but not as bad as 2/5 stars. -
Oh wow they finally killed Cole. I hope it finally sticks, cause it's weird that he's always coming back.
-
The Charmed comics are not bad, but eventually the redundance is becoming a bit much. Same old plots from the shows and previous comics.
-
Pat Shand perfectly picks up where Paul Ruditis left off.
-
The Halliwell sisters are back with more action, not a lot happened in this volume except a series regular died. It took 6 issues to build up the tension, but I am hoping the rest of the issues in this season would be good.

Cover: I don't really like the cover all that much. I think they could have done something else for the cover to better represent the Charmed Ones.
Things that I did like: I love that they are even continuing this series even though it is just a Graphic novel. I really wish they would continue it through TV shows. But here I at least get to see what life if like with the sisters and their families, their children, and the battles they are still fighting.
Things that I didn't like: Sometimes throughout the graphic novel, I couldn't really see who was who. They all looked similar they didn't have their distinct features to say who is Piper, Phoebe, and Paige. I really wished they would be more distinct when drawing these characters.
Overall: I rated this a 5 out of 5, because I loved the Charmed Ones, and loved this because it was a quick read. -
Okay?

Great job of carrying on the Charmed series. Almost thought I was watching it on tv. highly recommended.
