Play To Talk: A Practical Guide to Help Your Late-Talking Child Join the Conversation Reviews

Very helpful book on how to optimize parent-child interactions. The takeaway is: meet your child where she is, and make playing with you the most fun she can have. Bonus: you can apply the same techniques in your own interpersonal relationships. I have no idea if it will actually help speech to emerge, but I'm sure it will result in happier families.

My Book Chatter
This book fell into my lap at my first meeting for my son, Anthony, to begin Early Intervention services in Waunakee, WI. I was told their program was based off this book, Play to Talk. I was skeptical at first, but decided to browse some sections to see if I could pin-point some reasons as to why I should read this book in the first place. I instantly fell in love with the way the book was set up and read all of it in 7 hours. It encouraged me to become my son’s therapist. In my opinion, true generalization of therapy is the key to success no matter what type of program you choose to run. I worked through all of Anthony’s sensory issues using this book and by age 4, my son started talking. I kept using the book until he was 7 years old and thanks to the hands-on training I received through Waunakee’s Early Intervention Services, I’m able to implement its practices everyday with children I work with and my other typical functioning children as a natural habit now. I couldn’t recommend this book more…it was certainly a life-saver for us.

This is a method of engaging with your speech-delayed child that is responsive, at your child's level, and playful. It's BY FAR my favorite book on helping your speech delayed baby communicate (both verbally and nonverbally) more and better, and I have now read a few. It has its gimmicky moments, but it's also positive and empowering for parents, and FUN.

Although most of the book is just common sense, it's very informative and interesting in terms of communication in general. You can use this communication program for all relationships, not just late-talking children.

Great book for parents and professionals working with late-talking young children! I loved this book - easy to read, awesome suggestions, simple to carry out. Lots of clear examples for parents. Highly recommended!

This book should be marketed to parents of kids with autism or other neuro issues, not "late talkers." The book had some good content for delayed kids, and I think it would be a great intervention for ASD kids. Not very reader-friendly. I didn't like the structure or layout at all.

This is another of those books that I will never really "finish". I often refer to it for ideas on how to get my five year-old to be more communicative.
