than I expected
,gt fullafter second reading This felt a likes in its drug panic! Drug users are all violent criminals! assumptions, but that aside it was an entertaining enemiestofriendskinda buddy cop adventure.
ThinkHours as a longterm cop/criminal teamup, leading I gather in some gay direction, It's been a really long time since I was able to get into an action manga with a romantic angle that was this much fun! And full of angst! Gosh I can't even remember! Was it Rurouni Kenshin! Dang I'm old! Any way I am really into Hajime and Zeroichi.
They are too adorable. Can't wait for more! Everything was unexpectedly decent until rpe was considered acceptable for someone to deal with as selfpunishment for a perceived mistake that led to someone they care about occasionally becoming an uncontrollable rpist.
I mean, others imply its not okay, but they just let it happen I mean Do I have to say more Mit einem Verbrecher auf Verbrechensjagd!
I saw the pretty art and bought this manga expecting to see bishounen with just enough hint of flirtation to spark my imagination like "Free".
What I didn't realize is that it actually is the BL genre per the stamp on the back cover and there was even a brief smut scene, which was surprising considering there's no "explicit" parental advisory and the manga wasn't plasticsealed.
On the whole I thought this manga was good, The characters have unique personalities and individual abilities that get more interesting as the story evolves and more of their facets are revealed, I will say that I typically prefer yaoi withplot andromance, and this was more likeaction and fight scenes andromantic potential,
The main character is a rookie cop, freshly assigned to work with a "Hanger," a drugaddicted criminal, These partnerships are common on the police force, Drugs in this world infuse humans with special powers super strength, the ability to heal others, etc, so not only are Hangers physically superior to most humans, but they also have knowledge of other criminals and their activities, So they trade their help in catching other drugaddicted crooks for reduced sentences, Most of them have hundreds of years to spend in custody, so they work hard to try and have some kind of life outside of prison some day, The cops or "Keepers" they partner with sort of "control" them with a bracelet called a "lock, " If the Hanger gets too far away from his or her Keeper, they will be incapacitated or killed by the device, So it is in the criminal Hangers' best interests to play nice and work companionably with their cop Keepers,
For me, the main character tends to fade into the background, He's a cookiecut figure, a rookie cop who doesn't know anything about anything and therefore has to be mentored and is often teased by everyone around him, He doesn't have a lot of his own personality as of yet, His Hanger, on the other hand, is very mysterious, He has no memories prior to his arrest, though the reason for that is not explained in volumeof the manga, And for some reason I am suspicious as to whether he even has amnesia or if he's lying about it, because he always gets quiet when someone mentions it.
. . It's kind of adorable that he fights off his addiction cravings with food, because he's always hungry and likes for the rookie to prepare his meals, Which is about the only "romantic" thing going on between them at this point,
Halfway through volume, a second Hanger/Keeper couple is introduced, Sometimes I found them annoying, but they grew on me, The Hanger is a major flirt, His Keeper is the nerdy, rude genius type, I kind of have a thing for those standoffish characters with glasses who condescend to everyone around them, lol They are an actual couple and have had feelings for each other since they were in college together, before things went south and one of them turned to a life of crime.
They are the more interesting couple, all things considered, and they're the ones that have a love scene in this volume, because this Hanger has to control his drug cravings with sex.
All in all, an interesting setup, Like I said, I prefer a lot more romance than this volume delivered, but the world is complex and required a lot of building and explanation up to now.
I'm hoping the story heats up in the next couple of volumes, I can forgive a slow start when the storytelling is as rewarding as this one, and the manga felt really long and took me three sittings to finish reading.
It doesn't feel like an infodump, though, because everything is shown, not just told, to the reader, You get your money's worth, Content warnings: Drug use, violence, dubious consent
In this opening volume, we're introduced to the world of the Hanger program and their various federal agents.
The character designs are cool and, though everyone wears the same uniforms, it's easy to track who's who,
Hajime as a protagonist really works for me, He has his own goals, backstory, and convictions, The impenetrable wall of mystery that is Zeroichi works really well in contrast, but they don't exist in order to drive their own plots,
The fight scenes are also super energetic, leaving enough space for emotions and worldbuilding, I'll definitely be continuing this one, Ive recently started exploring manga, although I havent read much yet, As a newbie, I thought the premise of Hanger was interesting enough, but the execution of the story wasnt as strong as it could be,
Set in a future version of Tokyo, the plot involves two young men, Hajime and Zeroichi, Hajime is a traffic cop who is transferred into a special division that involves him partnering as a “Keeper” with a convicted criminal known as a “hanger, ” Hangers are humans who have been enhanced by nanotechnology to the point that they can be dangerous to the people around them, If such heavily enhanced individuals commit a crime, they work off their sentence by bringing in other criminals under the supervision of their Keeper, Hajime is heavily in debt because of his deceased mothers medical bills, so he agrees to participate in the program, even though nanotech doesnt work on him at all, leaving him extremely vulnerable to the violence he encounters.
Hes also becomes somewhat fascinated by Zeroichi and wants to help this strange man with whom he works,
So far, so good, The problem is that there are a few too many repetitive scenes of Zeroichi or other hangers attacking criminals, Scenes that arent even particularly well thought out, in my opinion everybody sure crashes through walls a lot, That takes the focus away from the relationship developing between the two men, which is the much more interesting part of the story, Although even that aspect of the narrative feels a bit formulaic to me,
The one thing that really intrigued me is the mystery of Zeroichis past, He doesnt remember anything prior to the previous year, and Hajime cant find any information about any crime he committed, Im curious enough that I may just pick up the next volume to see how that plot point develops,
A copy of this book was provided through NetGalley for review all opinions expressed are my own, I received this from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review

Before Thoughts:
To anyone who's following you already know I love BL, It's a guilty pleasure for me, . . so me picking up this book should come as no surprise to you, Especially since it hints at some BL elements,
And not to mention you have so many things that are to happen in the plot so I sure hope I can enjoy it for that reason too.

Read on:
Plot:
In the world of NeoTokyo there are people who become powerboosted by special chemicals and it's up to Hajime and other officers of the federal tasks force to apprehend the powerboosted citizens to prevent any damage or destruction to the city.
There's not much info, about who is distributing the super drugs/special chemicals, All they know is the drugs enhance the physical and mental abilities of citizens who happen to get their hands on it,
Characters:
Zeroichi: A hanger that is only teaming up with Hajime reduce hisyear jail sentence, He will likely be the one to go off track of their missions whenever they need to go after some chemical powerboosted criminals, He has severe amnesia and really likes trying to piss off Hajime even though it won't help him much on reducing his sentence as a hanger,
Hajime: The new recruit to the federal task force and a new keeper, And is referred to as watchdog by Zeroichi since as a keeper he watches over Zeroichi his hanger, His mother died in the hospital and left him with debt from the hospital bills, He also has a special blood condition, making his blood very dangerous to criminals that use the super drugs/nano machines,
Final thoughts:
Oof the idea is interesting but the format is terrible, First off when you open it it's starts from the end instead of the beginning, and second the text and scenes can be barely legible,
I mean honestly I've seen fan scanlations of manga online that are more legible and easier to read than the adobe digital editions format of this book.
I'm hoping that the final paperback format isn't this bad, I'm hoping that it'll actually be easy for the readers to read,
