this book came from the penny bin at the corner store, it was unexpectedly better written than
the other periodstyle books, It was farcical and liverpoolian witty, but also very very boring, I had to skim the religious cult sections, A wonderfully warm, uplifting and moving saga from multimillion copy seller Mary Jane Staples, Perfect for fans of Maggie Ford, Kitty Neale and Katie Flynn, Perfect to settle down with!

CAN SHE BE THE MOTHER THEY SO DESPERATELY NEED
The Pearly Queen is really Aunt Edie.
Everyone in Camberwell Green loves her Aunt Edie especially the Andrews family,
Jack Andrews is having a tough time, Not long after he came back from the First World War, his wife decides to leave him and their three children to join Father Peter's League of Repenters never to return.
Jack and the children manage as best they can, but things are pretty tough until Aunt Edie turns up, Having failed to convince her cousin, Maud Andrews, to come back, Edie moves in and takes over the Andrews family, For the first time in years life begin to look good again,
Aunt Edie: warm, generous, kind, and, above all, their very own Pearly Queen, Meh.
I liked the family part, even though as usual there's always a Deus Ex Machina to make everything turn out loverly for the hard done by Cockney family.
I guess there's a place for that, if you don't read too many of the same series in sequence,
I could certainly have done without the tired old trope of the lunatic fringe "church" run by a sexual pervert, I know for a fact they're out there, but there are also decent folks who do very good work, Funny how we never hear about them!
And then the "mystery" turns up at the very end and is just left hanging.
